This last friday I was driving on a road I'm very used to. It has a very long straight (about 5km) and only a handful of small bumps and isolated potholes on the sides. I was feeling adventurous and reached 210kph, when suddenling I see a huge new pothole on my way, right in the middle of the lane. It wasn't there a week earlier. I hit the brakes hard and swerved to the right then back to the center of the lane. The inner tires barely touched the edge of the asphalt and the outer tires were saved from hitting that huge pothole. After that I was still at high speed, about 140kph, but rapidly proceed to get back to the road limit. I was very startled but kept my cool and used what I know about spirited driving. And I have to thank my car for giving me the tools to correct the situation. Even if you are the best driver in the world, never speed on public roads, as you can never be sure of what surprises lie ahead.
