Well the only reason I can think of is if you drive over something. That bar isnt going up directly into the oil tank. I had no choice but to run something over while on my way to work beecause it was that or slam into the person next to me. I'd rather pay for one car not two. Long story short, the object holding my transmission up and in place. That thing went right through the transmission and made a fist size hole into said transmission. I'm assuming the engineer was trying to prevent that from happening but still its a bad place to put it.

Engineers are pretty much worthless individuals who just like to make it harder on everybody else. Especially when it comes to automobiles. Just remember, Ford canceled the 300 inline 6 cylinder engine because they couldn't make any money off of it. Don't let anybody tell you different, they will be talking out of their rears.

Its not the engineers fault, its the company board who don't want to spend money on designing new parts but just want us to put one thing new and use everything from old stuff and make it fit.

I work for valvoline in a pretty high class area so these lifted ass trucks constantly come in back after back, it’s a real pain I get oil all over myself from it since we do things underneath in a pit.

Actually they should have made a bespoke oil pan for that podel with the plug in a different spot. But that costs money. Moving the swaybar requires a lot more R&D.

Each engineer probably designs parts but that one engineer decides to have it right under the pil pan drain hole while he was drunk

The problem with mechanics is that they never designed any product to be mass produced and stable within Cpk range while being replicated in thousands meeting at the same time delusional deadlines and detached product definitions and requirements from project managers, doing it with compliance to industry standards. 😅 That's what you'll never understand guys, no one is doing anything to be a jerk to someone working at the workshop.

So some of what mechanics don't like about the engineering of vehicles is over sight, some are due to necessity... the rest is because the engineer was explicitly told to engineer it that way and would lose their job if they didn't. Planned obsolescence, intentionally difficult to repair... yeah these are design decisions by the higher ups.

Let's not talk about OIL FILTER replacement causing terrible mess on 85% of vehicles. Oil running all over chassis and exhaust; add a can of brake clean to every LOF.

Anyone change oil on a 718 Cayman or a VR6 powered Cayenne. The oil filters on both those vehicles are after thoughts 😆!!
