HEMA VS KUNG FU (2): a friendly spar
What's the point? Looks like one guy can't take NO for an answer thinks he can still get s3x!!
not many people showing or even taking about wing chun weapons fighting, right on 🔥
What is the point of this if your not using footwork
I am using footwork in the drill…
Asking to be arm barred or head and arm choked. This will never ever work against an experienced grappler. I wish it did as it would save me the time having to train so hard in grappling. You cannot deal with grappling without knowing how to grapple. Every single thing this man is saying is legal and applicable in mma but never works.
Friendly mayhem is the best mayhem!
Hahaha so true Gereg Jones Muller
Good 👍
Thanks Paul.
Why doesn't the whing Chun guy use the prong on the back of the guard to catch his opponent's blade?
He didn’t need to in that bout, as attack is better than chasing the opponents blade.
@@Suilimtao I sure for scoring a point but if I had the ability to control my opponents blade that's the first thing I would do , because it reduces or eliminates after blows
agora so tem que emagrecer kkkkkkkkk
I have lost a lot weight since this video was made…
I still don't understand how tf are you supposed to fight with these things
The vast majority of of the techniques when using the knifes, are a extension of the empty hand side of the WCK system. The knifes like the rest of the art is for close quarter combat. We are developing the WCK knife for full contact safe sparring as HEMA do.
which one is using miao dao?the white head or black head
Both are using Miao Dao...
HEMA guy couldn't really do much without hurting the other guy, i would recommend to try with protective gear on and you'll see how the game will change.
They chose to light spar after a class, I saw what they were doing & recorded a little. Ps check out part 2 to this vid...
please friend me on facebook jb practical self defense
that has practical all over it
Thanks, this is why we share in what we do.
There is so much to learn in form work Chi Sau not just to try and hit.
I kinda agree with what you said, but maybe your not aware of the context of this footage. This vid is from a Open Lineage Chi Sao Gathering where Chunners from different lineages/levels/schools/ association get together for chi sao...
@@Suilimtao Yep I got that..thanks!
Love this - using nature as a gym! Nice one
Thanks...Wing Chun kung fu’s original wooden dummy...
Wow
Thanks
Not your "Proudest Moment", but you saved yourself. It was clear he did not want any more of that.
Thanks
Oh dear. First off, put people of equal ability together to spar unless it's for targeted training. Secondly, in most instances, dual wield beats single wield hands down - even with a bit of range difference. Thirdly, neither of these two actually know how to fight with weapons. And, lastly, Western weapons fighting is almost always superior to Eastern weapons fighting for many reasons. (I have written an article about it in the past.)
Hmm, first of all they are both equals in time training...it’s a little footage from one of our monthly free sparring classes.. Lastly Western feudal Weaponry isn’t superior to eastern, as always it’s down to the practitioners...so your article is biased & flawed...
One "senior student" has asolutely no idea what he's doing.
He froze (it happens) & the other fully used his advantage...
Ouch. HEMA guy needs to spend a lot more time in classes...
He needs to adapt & deal with what’s happening...ps all part of the learning curve...
@@Suilimtao Basics are basics. I'm by far an expert, but seems like there is a lot of footwork that just isn't there.
It's kind of interesting. However, neither one of these guys has any defence. It's like watching multiple suicides over and over. I wonder what the purpose of this exercise was, as it's extremely hard to tell when they are both hit in pretty much every exchange. And why is the guy holding a longsword not using it as a longsword?
They sparring on a loop of reset, the idea behind the exercise is to adapt using unfamiliar weapons...sometimes attack is the best defence
@@Suilimtao Dying to kill your opponent is no defence at all.
The hema boy is not able to use points ... and he need a targa too
He wasn’t allowed to use his point, as he was closed down very quickly
Woo!!
As someone who has training in both knife and western swordplay, this was instructional.
Thanks.
Sigh. These 2 have obviously never seen footage of real fights where knives were involved. 🙄 This is the adult equivalent of children playing with sticks.
It’s not a knife fight to the death lol, rather it’s 2 different advance level martial artist, from very different art forms. Having a friendly exchange using weapons (modern military knives) that they are not familiar with...did you not read the description.
@@Suilimtao And that's the difference between traditional Chinese martial arts and the stuff that works. My WC instructor ditches a lot of the nonsense for tried and true WC fighting. What you two are doing is learning and reinforcing habits that may get you killed.
I am a glass half full kinda guy, if you don’t pressure test, you don’t know how you will preform if it ever gets real.
Hello
Hi
I do miss the lessons with my wing chun brothers
You welcome to visit if you back in the neighbourhood
maybe try to go more after his right hand?
Either weapon or training device still to perfect form. Your better of training BCD with a wooden Samurai Sword. Distance and simplicity.
Perfect form goes out the window when free sparring with a non compliant training partner. That is the factor we are testing here.
Sorry ... In Wing Chun we start with Siu Lim Tau, a small idea, after about 25 years of training we use butterfly knives ...
Err maybe for you & your teachers teaching syllabus, but that’s not the case with other Wing Chun schools. Example: GM Ip Man taught the BCD to a few of his select WCK students after 7+ years of training...
Yea, I dont know any teacher that does this. There is no reason to wait that long. You can build the fountain you need for BCD in shorter time. I could understand 2 or 3 years maybe...but 25..what's the point? Do you really think, back in the day when learning weapons was for self protection they waited 25 years? Even if you started at learning Wing Chun at 15 years old, you'd be 40 by the time you are taught Butterfly knives! That's not even accounting for the time it then takes to actually achieve skill with the weapon! Thatd be pointless and a waste of time.
One of the reasons for Wing Chuns simplicity is to train people quickly.
25 years.. and that's not how you overthrow the Manchus
How large is the square
It’s about 2 metres in across & down
Very good idea
Thanks.
why are you catching the bond on the end of the arm? Why aren't you doing it to the side? Just asking and super curious
365WingChun KungFu: Hi Jong is representative training equipment, i am catching the tip of the Jong arm both underneath & on the inside.
Suilimtao hmm. When slowed down. It looks like you are catching the tip of the Jong arm. So I was wondering why? Maybe it’s a trick of the camera view?
Good practice
Thanks 😊
I appreciate what a lot of people are doing but they're missing the the actual grasping and pulling in relation to the blocking it's like everyone wants to throw punches in hit but nobody wants to actually grab a hold of the arms yank flex and jerk what is supposed to be an arm or a limb keep in mind making strikes as one thing but if you don't have control of the person it might not end as well as you think
Wing Chun is predominantly a primary strike system, which is portrayed in the drill.
I fall in love with the Muk Yan Jong noises :) Great drills man!
Thanks, & I so know what you mean.
Black should be wearing gloves or red will cut his hands. Even with a "D" guard, your knuckles are exposed. And with use even blunt steel blades get a lot of burrs on the edge - like a saw.
Hi VTSifuSteve, I kinda of agree with you, but at the time this vid was made, this was one of very 1st attempts at free sparring with Butterfly Knives. Guy in black was one of my senior students having a go with a teacher (in red) of swordcraft. It was his suggestion to spar this way, under his guidance.
@@Suilimtao Yeah, I get that, ...and you guys seem to be holding back and using control. Maybe I'm just an old "mother hen" about weapons sparring. Hope you keep on posting clips...
Nice flow
adam davids: thanks 😊
no full cuts though
Full cuts are easy to pull of in free sparring. Demo’s are very different.
Those swords similarly looks like Katana....!!!!!!!!!!!!! `I am confused...!!!!!!!!!!! What's the actual difference between katana & miaodao?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Chinese Miao Dao is based on the Japanese sword, but is larger in size.
@@Suilimtao . I heard Miao Dao is the nemesis of Japanese Katana. Is it true?!!!
@@mahidulhasanasad2316 It was kind of invented by a General for countering japanese pirate invaders, so it kind of is. Ronin/pirates used to wield katanas and this general just borrowed their techniques and weapon design and made this new weapon which later on developed his own style. It was so effective that he just trained the paesants of the area so they could counter the pirates themselves (also because he didn't want to move the armies on the north that were dealing with invasions at the time). Some techniques suggest that they have also used them agains multiple katana wielding opponents if I'm not wrong. I saw some masters use it as an oversized katana as well.
Where was the place of gathering?
It was a park in Stevenage, Hertfordshire UK
Hi! You said : "This was a friendly exchange..both of us using the knife..a weapon that IS NOT part of our respective systems that we practise..." Yes it's a funny exchange! But knives is THE weapon of wing chun! Let's see the wing chun history! All the system is designed to use little blades. Your wing chun has to be more effective with pocket knife, karambit or kubotan, rather than a pair of baat zaam dou! Study the 3 forms in this "little idea in your head"... little knife, pocket knife, discreet blade, invisible sharp. You'll be even more fierce. Peace
You got to understand that It’s a cultural thing, the Chinese called anything with a single edge a Dao (knife) or double edge a Jian (sword). So as in the Chinese tradition, we follow that, but in reality Wing Chun’s knives are really a pair of short swords,
@@Suilimtao You are right. Some revolutionnary chinese used it in 19th century. But their winchun was not the modern winchun that you learn. Winchun was in built. Today, the sets are different. Modern wingchun (Ip Man, Yuen Kay Shan, Pan Nam, Gulao, Ban or Cho family) is devasting if you think you have a little blade hidden your hand. The big knives butterflies are made to train. If you want to defend yourself or attack somebody in a little street or in a little shop or in a little corridor, pocket knives are the best.
1. Do not stay on the attack line. Move! Follow the triangle footwork! 2. Slash the wirst not the body. 3. When you've slashed the wrist, take the center, break the structure of opponent and slash his throat or thrust his heart or his liver. 4. Move in a constant movement. Knives has to turn like a butterfly. Not for aesthetic, but to acquire velocity and to blur your attacks. 5. Try to spar with "not sharped knives" in aluminium to appreciate the cold of the blade on your skin. Your Body memory is your greater teacher. This sparring is not useful because you're not in a state of mind in which you have two real knives! When you have two blades, you don't do anything! Please, let's go to watch on youtube some knives duel or attacks in London or colombian streets! Peace.
This is light sparring so very different to actual fighting...rather a bridge to fighting. We train with real butterflies knives, but don’t spar with them, as they can still break bones when used at speed in sparring.
@@Suilimtao Yes, baat zaam dou break bones. But when you play or spar lightly, you have to respect the basic of fight! Don't stay on the attack line. And don't think you have a plastic knives.
ok
Thumbs up! Try to aim allways at the body, so that the block has to be very correct. I can see, that after a while, you hit to the stick. Furthermore: I dont know much about stick fighting, but your hands are very central. Thats ok I think if the partner hits to the arm, but if your partner would aim at the head, he would hit the hand. Its not a saber so I would place the hand, say 20 cm, more to the right and a very little more above. Its hard to tell what the partner is aiming for in free fight, thats for sure.
I ment it like you showed it in the last free fight video. haha, fail^^ In future I will check the Channel bevor I write ;)
lovely video
Thanks man :-)
Movie fights fr should be choreographed more like this
What are the 2 different linegaes ?
Hazza Hazza, blue T-shirt is Ip Chun Line & Black T-shirt is mix of William Cheung & Victor Kan Lines...
@@Suilimtao Ok thanks, Black t shirt looks more a like mix of total confusion, nothing like GMWC line or Victor Kan or anything in-between .Any idea what club is mr Confused guy is from?
Blue shirt is a senior student of mine. Black shirt is Sifu in his own right, a really nice guy, has no ego always looking to learn, he has attend a couple of our Chi Sao Gatherings. He’s not use to our ways, he will adapt in due course, ‘tis the Wing chun way... Ps kudos for him attending, & testing his Wing Chun like so not many Sifu’s would do that...
Why is mr. HEMA holding his longsword in one hand and not using correct guard positions?
He is using a side sword, not a long sword...
wow
