McKay/Rodney/Meridith grew on me. From a dispicable overgrown teenager to an unvilling anti-hero. Extreamly good at his field with to much confidence and very little situational awarenss. Pressed into the field duty, often scared shitless but still doing his part. Often he was overheard/ignored by decision takers, and often he was right. Where Sheppard either keept his fears inside/in-check and was charming enough to slide from his major mistakes, McKay was rideculed. In the end both actors managed to developed their characters, but David Hewlett managed give McKay a much more full character. I miss them both.
