Nice work, could you give any information on the tools you are using
Brilliant job, great video
Thanks, mate!
What is the name of the tool you use that clamps the wood in place? thanks
What tool is this?
Which one?
@@fingaro The first one
@@gigamedia1786 toothpick in mechanical pencil - 2mm
What is that pen you are using?
I'm using a standard mechanical pencil. As inserts, instead of a graphite, are wood, brass, and steel tips.

@@ivansaric33 maybe I'll upgrade it in the future
HELLO, EXCELLENT WORK CONGRATULATIONS..!! I DON'T KNOW IF THE FIRST PENCIL WAS MADE OF WOOD OR FIBERGLASS..??👌
Thanks! The pencil tip is wooden.
Very nice job, congrats! I still have to learn how to do it without scratch the coin patina....
Gentle, without any pressure, and with soft tips. In my case, I'm manly using toothpicks. If you take your time, the process should be flawless ;)
What kind of solution did you use at 30:12?
Just distilled water :)

Yeah, I prefer a non-identifiable dirt coin too which has zero value.

🤣
You do realize they were only scratching away dirt right? The patina is still right there plain as day
wow, nice, you did a great job on that New Pence. What cleaning tool is that? I never seen one, and what liquid are you using? Thanks
The tool is a mechanical pencil with a PVC tip carved from scrap plastics. The liquid is just a weak baby soap solution.
wow, very nice job, what cleaning pens you use? I use Andres crayons coin cleaning pencil, and im look to upgrade. Again you did a great job.
Thank you very much! I'm using homemade tools, so I can't recommend any. Don't expect miracles from different instruments. The most important tool is You 😀
@@fingaro Oh ok, cool. Yeah thats true, we are the best tool in the shed, with proper sharping, and well honed skills we will get the outcome we want.
Great job, thanks.
Thank you! 😀
While you may be tempted to polish your coins to make them look shiny and new, proceed with caution. Polishing and/or cleaning coins can reduce their value. Older coins that show deep age coloration are more desirable than coins whose surfaces have been stripped away by improper polishing or cleaning. If you do polish a coin to remove dirt, use mild soap and water. Once you’ve washed the coin, pat it dry with a soft towel. Brushing or rubbing can scratch a coin’s delicate surface. but dont do it
Thanks for the advice! I'm trying to stay away from the polishing, just attempting to clean the mineralization, crystallization, corrosion, and dirt. Basically, my idea is to reveal the layer of patina, if there is some left. Thanks again! 😀
@@fingaro dont do anthing will devalue

@@fingaro That so true, its very relaxing when cleaning coins. Iv'e started my career cleaning Ancients, and I used to loose myself in the coin, and never realized how the hours felt like minutes. Now my specialty are more modern coins 1600s to the early part of the 20th century, but I still dabble in Ancients. Great video by the way you did a great job.
Good job, if it was real you just destroyed it... Retard
I'm open to advice on how not to destroy the coin. I'd read thousands of pages on mechanical coin-cleaning themes, and yes, I have a lot to improve, a lot to learn, and a lot of mistakes to make. If you have something valuable to say, please do it. If not, thanks for the comment. It helps for RUclips algorithm 😉
@@fingaro Okay, you just wiped out the patina thats been collecting on a coin that may have been used in the Roman times. the history, you just wiped away, and why because you thought the coin was dirty or perhaps cool? There are plenty of modern day coins in worse shape but you decided it was acceptable to destroy a piece of history, so here is my valuable thought, Your a selfish entitled moron with zero respect or care for anyone. If that was a a Denarius Jesus could have held it for all you know. Nice way to start out, destroying ancient artifacts. Next time, if your making such a decision to put on display to the WORLD, expect pushback when you do dumb shit like this. Unbelievable. You're a talented guy but man think things out!
With all my respect, everything you see as bare metal is a dark green patina. It's just a game of light. I welcome pushback, and I want to learn from it. As far as my knowledge and tools allow me, I'm doing my best to clean and preserve the coins with all of the patina. Please, could you show me at which moment of the video I'm destroying the coin? In the last seconds, I'm showing this piece of art in daylight in my hand. It's all dark green, except for uncleaned zones, which are kinda white. The coin was given to me for cleaning by an old collector, and he was pleased with the results. And again, I've got a lot to learn and a lot of mistakes to make.
Nice work ❤ link tool used? 😅

Great job cleaning the roman
Thanks, mate! I appreciate it! 😀
Can you provide specific told you used? I’m new to the hobby and want to acquire the correct tools for proper restoration and preservation.
I'm not the correct example 😉 I'm using "DIY" tools. In this case, a standard automatic pencil, like this one: a.co/d/cfK5y1i. The pencils are in two sizes with removed graphite and replaced with something useful. In 0.5mm size, I'm using needles and sewing pins as inserts. In 2.0mm size, I'm using toothpicks and homemade various non-ferrous inserts, like brass or aluminum ones. The other tools are: Ball vice; Toothbrush with shortened hair; Dental probe; Again, I'm not the right example! Just like you, I'm new to this, and I don't think anything I say could be used as advice!
An engravers ball vise and shellac/wax mounting, and ultrasonic would help.
I prefer not to use an ultrasonic
for sure a long soak in distilled water help and in case you did next time try olive oil
I've tried the oil. Made a couple of tests (different periods) with both olive oil and distilled water, and I'm not sure about the results. At this point, it looks like there's almost no difference, and the olive oil is slightly better. Maybe it is just a placebo because I'm expecting oil to work better. I'll continue with the experiments. I'll try to mention in the next videos what the coins were soaked in - water or oil. I'm at the beginning of my long learning curve, so any advice is welcomed and appreciated 😊
@@fingaro i make some test and with olive oil the dirt come off easy with toothstick but i dont find a lot of coin for make a better conclusion,

Wich tools do u use for coin cleaning?
I'm using a standard mechanical pencil in 2mm size, but instead of graphite inside, I'm using wood, brass, and aluminum inserts. I'm also using standard dental probe, toothbrush with shortened hair, and a brass handle with attached sewing pin. Today, I bought more mechanical pencils in size of 0.4mm and 0.5mm, so the needles will go there. And, of course, various brushes 😀
@@fingaro Thank you! where I can find the inserts? you do them by your own?
@Alrik1987 Yes, the inserts are hand-made. Depends on the manufacturer, but there are toothpicks with a diameter of 1.96mm, which will fit perfectly in a 2mm pencil. Metal inserts could easily be made from different wires and a little sandpaper. For removing hard deposits, I'm using needles. Most small ones are in 0.4-0.5mm size, so they are also "easy fitter." There are complete products online like this www.cleaningpencil.com/composite-cleaning-pencil I prefer to make my tools as much as I can. I hope the information is useful. 👍
@@fingaro Wow, so much info. Thank you very much! ^^
You Need A Sonic Bath. Be So Much Easier And Faster For You...
I have one, but I never used it for ancient coins. It would be nice if it could be applicable. It's too risky. Even a small crack in the patina will be the end of the coin. Keeping the value of the coin needs time. No sonic bath, no chemicals. Layer by layer, mechanical cleaning by hand.
What is that tool with the yellow tip? A toothpick? Another nice work
Thanks! I appreciate it! I've cleaned less than 30 coins, so there are a lot of mistakes to be made. 😁 Toothpicks are a little thinner than my pencil. These are made from soft pine wood. Almost the same as the toothpicks, but 0.25mm thicker (+-0.01mm)
Great
Nice work, what tools did you use? I really liked
Thanks 🤭 I'm new to this hobby and the tools list is short Tools that I'm using are: * Mechanical pencil 2mm, but instead of graphite inserts I'm using wooden ones, like toothpicks. I've also prepared some brass, aluminum, and different PVC inserts, but I'm usually using the wood ones; * dentists probe for loosening hardеr deposits; * sewing pin attached to a brass handle. I'm using it for small crevices like hair, beard, or letters in the legends. maby this weekend I'll get more mechanical pencils in different sizes, so I could use the sewing pins as inserts; * a soft brass brush for the first layer of dirt; * a medium toothbrush with shortened hair for overall cleaning; * cotton buds; * paper towels; * little vice; * x3-x5 magnifying glass. I'm waiting for a delivery of a small electronic microscope to replace the magnifying glass; That's all, nothing special :)
