This sounds like a Boss fight where your in a broken down castle lacking, dark, dreary, and lacking in any sort of life, and the boss starts out as a skeleton in worn armor filled, but when you finally get him to zero health, he revives and he and the castle becomes overlayed with a version of them from when when he was still alive filled with with bright golds and crimson reds. I imagine his name would also change, something like “Remanent of a Forgotten Kingdom” to “Last King of Elysium, Liones” or something among those lines.
