I think Spike is the most human vampire in the show. He is counting the days since Buffy has gone. Isn't this some form of love?
I like to believe that Buffy had love feelings for him, too, even when he didn't have a soul.
Their love goes beyond this world, their love transcends dimensions of time and space. Their love looks even more intense on the notes of this Interstellar soudtrack.

I'm actually so peed that she does everything in her powers to deny it, and messes him around. Then when he gives up when his sole gets taken or given back... I'm unsure, she says I love you and he doesn't believe her because of all the mixed signals she's given him. Like if she actually said I love what you are too and that, in her twisted way she does love him, because she does things that suggest and signify love. For example their kisses and how she depends on him for comfort. Regardless of Riley and Angel's presence... she loves the chase, the excitement and a place to fall. If I was Buffy I wouldn't come back to him every time if I didn't love him or lean on him or kiss him or sleep with him if I didn't love him. So she does actually she's just not too good at saying it or too hurt by what Angel and her had and how that ended.... to say it back. I think as viewers we needed the satisfaction of her saying it when it mattered not when he was moments away from death. AAAAAGGGGGHHHH this ac got me depressed lolll
Spike was the sole reason for me to start with btws.. and now I am shattered for Spike's pain. That guy deseeved so much more. Loved your edit ❤️
