And yet another guitar solo I did for a contest on a Finnish music forum. Unfortunately no playthrough video this time but you can have a look-see of my main gun, a lovely green six stringer loaded with Gotoh GE1996T bridge and Dimarzio X2N & Tone Zone pickups.

Having problems with your pinky? I know I had and that's why I wrote this exercise that utilizes the whole fretboard on just one string. This is from the Michael Romeo song "Divide & Conquer". Super difficult stuff as Michael's solos always are! Whammy effect has never really spoken to me so instead of the last whammy note I figured I'd just rip a tasty and aggressive bend vibrato combo! Works every time! 😁👍🏻

This glorious intro belongs to my constant practice routine. It's a really tough spot for the picking hand. My 10th Death cover! It took me a while to get this far though. I used demucs to separate the instrument tracks and recorded all the guitars again. Your playing is amazing🔥It's just so hard for me to play Chuck's solos (the fast alternate picking parts) because I just can't figure out what he plays there. I feel like he had a more freestyle approach compared to, let's say, someone like John Petrucci, who takes one pattern and just runs that through a scale. Have you ever thought about maybe releasing a tab for the solos or lesson videos (probably easier) where you explain how to play them? I would pay money for that.
Thanks so much! I know the frustration of trying to figure out Chuck's solos. It took me a few years to figure out his playing style and I'm still learning new things from time to time. I too feel that he had a more freestyle approach but he did have his own few note patterns which he mixed up to make those cool sounding fast runs. Often times those fast runs don't fall into any standard rhythmic subdivisions (e.g. 16th notes). For example there could be 19 notes in a bar. On top of that his picking hand plays faster than his fretting hand (meaning that his hands are not in sync). It creates this nice little effect but makes it harder to figure out what he's doing. I'm actually considering of doing some sort of lesson videos (hopefully in the not-too-distant future) but I don't want your money for that :)
Who plays the putro solo in Perenial quest? I cannot say if its chuck or bobby and you dont have it here
It's definitely played by Chuck. I didn't play it because I consider that part more of a melodic lead part, not a solo.
sorry bro but when it sounds exactly like the studio version, tone and cannot distinguish, your volume from the actual song it sounds fake you may know the notes but sounds like yer mimicking.. show us proof with a slight tone differential. fake!!

I'm impressed how clean you played all of those solos. But it's little sad you ended "Sacred Sanity" before the solo ends. I love the part of solo that's over clean channel, simple af and great as well. Also as we counting those small solos from "Zero Tolerance" I'm not sure if this little lead before bridge in "Sacred Serenity" can also be considered as small solo. But still great covers and video

I decided to left that Sacred Serenity part out because I don't consider it a solo (more of an individual melody part after the solo) and this video was already way too long so I made a stupid decision to leave it out 😂 But I do love that part as well and you're 100% right, I should have included it! 👍🏻 I have a cover of the full song on my channel if it helps!

Amazing album and you really nailed the solos! Just curious, how long did it take you to learn all of these? I'm just getting back into guitar after a long hiatus and I'm trying to tackle a few Death songs but hitting major roadblocks learning the solos
Thanks a ton!! It took a lot of time to learn all of these solos. And when I say "a lot", I mean A LOT 😂 I remember starting to learn Bobby's Symbolic solo in 2010 or 2011 but I couldn't play it until 2021. My technique just wasn't there until that. Most solos were much faster to learn though. Basically I've learned this stuff slowly throughout the years. What solos are you struggling with?

I've seen hundreds of covers on RUclips, but none better than yours, congratulations, incredible execution. But what caught my attention the most was the tone.. incredible, very similar, especially in the parts of the chuck, could you tell me how you got to this tone? Gear?Simulations? Which amplifiers, pedals? Plugins, which amplifier are you simulating? Amazing! Once again, congratulations!
Thanks so much for your amazing feedback! :) About the tone: I made a Kemper profile from OD-808 + Marshall Valvestate 8200 + BBE Sonic Maximizer in the effects loop + Mesa 4x12 cab miked up with 2 x SM-57's. Everything is played through that profile. In the mix I did some eq and added Cubase's stock effects chorus, flanger, delay and reverb. It certainly took a fair amount of time to adjust all the settings but it certainly was a time worth spending :)
