When Jann Arden wrote and sang the most grateful song of the 90s

Even though “Insensitive” was her bif hit song, my favorite song from this album was “Good Mother” by Jann Arden. Her voice is just stellar and the recording and songwriting is so timeless that this song could have been released today. #jannarden #goodmother #insensitive #90s #90smusic #90ssong #90ssongs #90sthrowback #90sthrowbacks #90sthrowbacksong #90sthrowbacksongs #90skid #90skids
🍻 As Long As We Got Each Other ("Growing Pains Theme) [Holiday Version] - Rod Kim
Просмотров 8323 часа назад
I’ve wanted to reimagine this one ever since I started this tradition of taking classic TV theme songs from my childhood and giving them a holiday twist. I’m juuuuust old enough to remember bits of the show “Growing Pains” (that introduced me to Leonardo DiCaprio, Alan Thicke and Ashley Johnson) but I VIVIDLY remember that epic theme song. To me, it was THE anthem for loved ones who persevered ...

Even though the Spice Girls had the brand of girl power locked down, “Just a Girl” by No Doubt was arguably more of the anthem the concept stood for. This was another song about writing a song and “Hook” by Blues Traveler used a transposed version of Pachabel’s Canon (much like Vitamin C did for “Graduation”) and sang kind of nonsense lyrics to prove their point back in the 90s. #bluestraveler #hook #vitaminc #graduation #90s #90smusic #90ssong #90ssongs #90sthrowback #90sthrowbacks #90sthrowbacksong #90sthrowbacksongs #90skid #90skids

    That chord progression is generally used as a “turn around” in jazz. These guys aren’t just a run of the mill hippie rock band. Met them while they were still in high school, did background vocals on “dropping some NYC” though I’m not credited… The genius of this song is it tells you EXACTLY why you love it. It’s the science of hit making. Neil Diamond sang “you gotta sing it with a cry in voice, then before you know it, it’s starts to feeling good, simply got no choice”. One of my favorite songs by John Popper is “ the mountains win again” dedicate to bassist Bobby Sheehan after his passing. Take a deep dive into Blues Traveler, you’ll be surprised at what you’ll find.

That last night, the DJ (who had gotten very used to my weekly calls) and I geeked out for over an hour about how cool this song is.

    Everywhere is the better song for me, but this one hits all the right spots as well. The polished, girl pop-rock sound is the transition between the grungier 90's sound (4 non-blondes, Meredith Brooks) to the singer-songwriter sound of the later 00's and 10's (sara bareillis et. al.). Michelle Branch is probably the best, but Barlow Girl, Avril and even Ashlee Simpson are good examples.

      Not sure what you mean by that. After 1,000 miles, Vanessa Carlton pretty much fell off the map. Whereas Michelle had numerous hits as a solo artist and with the band The Wreckers. Plus, she had 2 hits with Carlos Santana.

    • @Siferatu
      @Siferatu 11 дней назад

      @@backintheday3097 Carlton stole her thunder. Napster files for Branch songs were often labeled as Carlton. Doesn't matter that Carlton's other songs never followed up.

    • @backintheday3097
      @backintheday3097 11 дней назад

      @Siferatu Your argument makes no sense. Had Carlton had more hits and Michelle fell into obscurity, then yes, the claim could be made that she stole Michelle's thunder. But the fact that she became completely irrelevant after 2002, and Michelle continued to have massive success, proves that wasn't the case. Mitchell's songs being labed as Vanessa's on Napster may have had a small impact back then, but is completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
