Grammy Bait Songs Inspired by Elvis: Marc Cohn's Walking in Memphis
Was Walking in Memphis Grammy Bait?! Is that even fair?
📌Chapters:
📺In this video:
We look at at Marc Cohn's classic 1991 hit Walking in Memphis, about a trip he took to the birthplace of Rock and Roll, looking for inspiration.
📚"Walking in Memphis" is a song written and originally recorded by American singer-songwriter Marc Cohn, for whom it remains his signature song. It received a Song of the Year nomination at the 34th Annual Grammy Awards in 1992, the same year that the 32-year-old Cohn won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
The song's lyrics are autobiographical, chronicling a 1985 trip that Cohn, then a struggling songwriter and singer, took to Memphis to overcome a bout of writer's...

The obvious reason Wagner didn't talk to this woman who heard Wood's cries for help after she entered the cold waters of the North Pacific is that he was serioujsly traumatized by what had happened as he had loved Natalie through two marriages. StocktonRob

Hello, first of all, I want to say this is a fantastic interview. Around 20 years ago I watched an interview with Jan Wahl who is a Hollywood historian and film critic, which was on local TV in the San Fransico Bay Area California. She interviewed director, Laurie Jacobson. They were talking about Hollywood, and they got around talking about Natilie Wood and Robert Wagner and Natilie's death that night. Ms. Jacobson said it's an open secret in Hollywood that Natilie Wood and Robert Wagner would have dinner parties and ask if anyone would like to join the couple in their bedroom. Apparently, they had an open marriage. Also, she said that Robert Wagner was bisexual. In fact, Jacobson said the night that Natilie Wood drowned, Christopher Walken and Robert Wagner didn't hear Natilie crying for help because the two men were sexually involved. Have you heard anything like this? If this is true, this would explain many things. Another time I communicated with a Hollywood insider whose father was an actor. I can't name the person, and the person's father. However, this person said Robert Wagner is a well-known bisexual in Hollywood, and he was well known in Hollywood to have a macho temper now and then. If this is true, maybe Natilie was tired of his bisexuality, and maybe she tried to accommodate him in the marriage, but she might have had enough? Therefore, is it possible that they got into an argument, which she said to him she was going to tell the truth who he really was to the public? They were possibly both drunk, and out of anger, he might have hit her, and she fell in the water? Sorry for this speculative comment. This is just a thought.

The minute you described the combination of "disabled daughter" and "overbearing mother", every single V.C. Andrews book made sense to me all of a sudden. Ask me how I might know, lmao : | Fortunately I was able to get well enough to move away from my own mom as a young adult, but ... I definitely spent most of my life inside my own head in a very vibrant but extremely weird world, and think Virginia's books really capture that experience in a way I couldn't really describe to anyone who hadn't lived through something similar.

@@trav-elvis thank you for making this video about Virginia! I was familiar with her books, but never knew anything about her actual life before now. She kind of reminds me of (Nelle) Harper Lee, except Nelle was "just" a bit shy rather than living with physical limitations. Maybe this is controversial, but I think those two authors are of equivalent talent, too -- just that one wrote a book which was considered very profound and serious, while the other wrote lurid fiction about incest.

    • @trav-elvis
      @trav-elvis 21 день назад

@@joywagner979 I don't think that opinion is controversial at all- I see the correlation, both in the author's biographies and talent levels. Considering how quickly Virginia cranked her novels out, the final product is even more impressive.

What I'm confused about in this interview when Ms. Wayne said Natlie's friends said Natilie was filing for divorce because she was the bread winner. However, RJ was acting in the hit show, Hart to Hart and he had a percentage of the show. So RJ must have been making money? I have once watched a local program which the interviewer was, Jan Wahl. Jahn Wahl interviewed this director who talked about RJ and Natilie Wood situation that night. The director said its well known in Hollywood that RJ and Christopher Walken were preoccupied having sex while Natlie was drowning. Also, the director said RJ and Natlie were well known to have dinner parties and offer their guests if they would like to join, He and Natlie in their bedroom. I once spoke to a Hollywood insider whose father was a character actor in movies. This lady said RJ is well known to be bisexual, and he could have a macho temper. I think that Natalie did things to keep the marriage going, and she got to the point she had enough. Maybe she was going to spill the beans who RJ really was, and he flipped with anger in a drunken state at her that night shoving her in the water?

What a beautiful review. So gracious. I started reading the book in the car right after I bought it. I had to force myself to stop take a break and finish reading the next day. Very emotional. Very riveting. The most disturbing part for me was what finding out what Lisa Marie had to endure with Priscilla and Edwards. May no child ever have to suffer what went on in that household. And being shuffled off from one school then another ...from one nanny to another ...and being dropped off at the Scientology Celebrity Center at all hours, of the day and night. It's a wonder Lisa didn't attempt suicide. On the other hand I was happy to read about Riley's depiction of the 10 magical years Lisa provided to Riley and Ben when they were children. However, now that I hear this testimony from one of the most accurate witnesses, I'm actually leaning towards accidental drowning. If Robert were out there, forcing her to drown, why didn't Marilyn Wayne hear HIS voice? Why wasn't he shouting or at least talking? Why didn't Natalie say "He's drowning me!!!" And why would it take so long for him to drown her? He let her swim around for 15 minutes before forcing her head under water? Marilyn started hearing Natalie's voice at 11:05 PM, and it didn't stop until 11:20 PM.

I remember the bubbles and the color of the pool water when it was happening. My sister pulled me out. It was very disturbing to see that image here and you need to take it down. It's a shot that is completely unnecessary. Think of their children getting an idea of how she might of felt underwater.

@lisalisa930 Thanks for your input. The scene is a little trite, but the reasons you dont like it are the reasons I used it. It's not an accurate depiction of Natalie’s drowning, but it does give a sense of the dire situation she was in. It is pathos and serves to contrast her fate with Wagner's. I understand your near drowning experience, I had one myself, but I was a teen. How would you have opened the video?

Without the opening scene of the water and bubbles as if someone is sinking down underwater. It is completely unnecessary. Again, think of how Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood's children could feel looking at that scene because it's very realistic. That scene is not fair to their children. This is a very inappropriate video and an insult to Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood. This shouldn't be an "exciting" event to go and see where this horrible incident occurred.

@lisalisa930 Thanks for your comment. Have you been to Catalina? It's an amazing and beautiful place. It was a pilgrimage for us. I can't imagine being in Isthmus Cove and not feeling the weight of the events that took place there. What was it that made you click on our video? Thanks again!

One must wonder if all the comments below are fake news created by Lana Woods?

Interesting! I’m disgusted it was a hoax but relieved at the same time. Looking forward to reading the story behind it.

I think he beat her so bad and pushed her over and didn't want anyone to help her survive then she would tell police and press he beat her up bad. He threatened everyone to go along with his made up story. Plus he didn't go and identify her body made the captain do it. Probably didn't want to see the damage he caused on her body sicko

I Almost drowned when I was 13. I couldn’t n didn’t scream for help. I was busy trying to get air. My short life flashed before my eyes like a little film. Next thing I knew the paramedics were doing cpr on me. Someone jumped in n pulled me in I was told. I never got to thank him. I find it hard to believe that Natalie was screaming help me I’m drowning.

Let's share it and spread the word. Joel owns the company that owns Enesco, and uses Conversations to advertise it, and Tom Brown and Angie Marchese to hawk it. Not a good look. We were at Conversations, and suddenly about mid-way through it turned into an infomercial for these collectibles, most of which were not Elvis related. People were looking at one another...wondering. It went on for nearly half an hour. A lot of people just left.
