Welcome to Aotearoa Kadian! I'm a kiwi and I have to agree with what you said about layering. I think most important is a good Base layer, ideally merino & snug fitting. You'll find lots of cheap merino/polypropylene blend thermals, but I recommend spending a little more on pure merino. I love the footage of your journey. The Bush that you filmed here is mostly native beech forest. There's plenty of diversity in our native Flora, but I think beech forest is my favorite 💚.
