    The 4.4 liter BMW engine the first Arnage had was definitely no slouch. But just about everyone prefers the guzzler.

    I had a 5-speed 1989 Z-24 that went to 375,000 kms. The reason I had to junk it because a tree fell on it. Crap I could never find another one either. It had a racing ecu in it too, and twin piped stainless glass pack muffler. Sounded awesome.

    We had an '86 5-door Nova with the CL trim level. The seats were really comfortable and the car was nearly perfect. The only real issue was that it had a weird hesitation and the choke on the carb would get gummed up. After we traded it in, I found out that Toyota dealers had a solution for the hesitation. The car was roomy, fuel efficient and being a 5-door could haul stuff very well. I put an aftermarket stereo with a big power amp in it and really hammered the stock speakers,which took it in stride. I would love to have that car today!

    Amazing that this old video is still relevant, because the Buell XB9R & S are still very relevant today. These remain the same scalpels of the track as they were 21 years ago when I bought the XB9S that I still trackday. I also had an XB9R like the one shown but prefer the XB9S (street). The body position and knee work is a bit different but the wider handle bars make it better, even for my 6 ft 3 inch physique. I have uploaded my September 28, 2024 trackday as a RUclips video. It is comprised of many still shots and a few brief video snippets. At time marker 1:49 the videographer caught me into a great left hander but cut the camera as I made the turn-in. No, I did not lay it down but throughout the day gathered lots of Pirelli boogers in those Ss. If you desire to start trackdays and want a real seat of the pants (leathers) feel, get a good used Buell air-cooled XB9 or XB12 S or R. Get it repaired correctly and have a ball. It will do an honest 120 mph on this short straight but the real kick is going faster through the turns than the bigger bikes. They will pass you on the straight but you catch'em in the turns. The XB9S is also my street bike, with lots of smiles on the street rides too. Use title; 80 year old motorcyclist track day because I cannot imbed the actual YT address here.

    I remember seeing a few of them back in the day but I remember one in particular. I worked as a maintenance man at a hotel back in the early 90s and they had a few banquet rooms that they rented out for meetings,weddings etc. I remember a lady that had a hatchback Nova who was there every month for a local group that always had meetings there. She was a middle aged lady that had a 5 speed Nova which back then it was common for a car of that size to be a stick shift! Sadly you don't have many options to get a base car with a manual transmission like you did back then as many people would learn to drive a standard with an econobox and keep buying them until they were forced to switch to an automatic!

    It was low 15-15.7 not a 16 sec car and yes it would eat most bmw 5 if both didn't have a tune but both had same tranny lol this guy didn't know wack on this and some like mine had electric blowers like turbo / supercharger i know this because you have to disconnect it and a cooler lines and stuff to do a belts changes and with a tune transmission it do 14 high to 15.2 and put wider vette tires sizes on it and it do 15 all day intil motor or tranny or rearend parts go but it would do alll on dash and some if in right modes and light up on gas and cut plastic shims off gas petal i did mine because i wanted a fancy after market race looking and same with steering wheel and wheels at first but moved back to stock looking stuff and and tubontics company has upgraded blowers and electric stuff and coils and the cosica exhast and other parts and a airraid coolbox was also upgraded and well just to say caddy warranty was never worth it anyways and they hated them so i just got parts and stolen parts out of others in our lots to fix mine like they was my own parts bin 😂 because most was headed to junk yards i took wheels and lugs and bumpers and fog lamps and trunks and doors front glass and rear glass and sunroof and list go on

      @SubieandFriends 2 месяца назад

      @@TheRealDarthVadar thank you…thank you very much! On a separate note the L98 from what i read and heard isn’t too bad or underpowered, as matter of fact it’s quite a good capable engine that finally got the C4 some decent numbers for the time period….especially the torque, apparently the L98 is known as a torque monster!

    • @TheRealDarthVadar
      @TheRealDarthVadar 2 месяца назад

      @SubieandFriends 350 torque wasn't shabby for 1985 when I believe that engine was introduced 245 bhp 350 torque I'd consider that a torque monster for it's era

    • @SubieandFriends
      @SubieandFriends 2 месяца назад

      @@TheRealDarthVadar actually I don’t mean to sound like Mr smarty pants here but the L98 came out a few more years later, either 87 or 89, I know for sure the 1984-1986* C4 had the old cross fire 5.7 V8 which was introduced in the previous generation C3 corvette for its last two model years I believe 81 & 82(I don’t think there was a corvette made for 1983) So when the C4 was released for 1984 it was equipped with the same cross fire 5.7 V8 which only made around 205HP & I think about 290lbs torque…that’s why when the L98 came out a few years later it was considered such a nice big upgrade and what made it even better was when it got the new 6 speed manual transmission that came out for 1989(I think it was 1989) which was much better then the 4 + 3 manual that it replaced. The 4 speed autos were always good transmissions.
