Caught this Eastbound UP Intermodal as the sun was setting over the Franklin Mountains. This typical Monster Intermodal had Mid-train DPU's and you can watch them at 5:00. Recorded on July 6th, 2024 at 7:50pm.

Having just switched off from the Sunset Route, this Intermodal Monster continues its journey up the Carrizozo Sub in the Southwest scorching heat of 103F (39.4 degrees celsius). It also has mid-train DPU's which you can watch at 5:00. Recorded on June 22nd, 2024 at 1:51pm.

Caught this Intermodal Westbound in what I found out it's the tiny town of Newman in New Mexico right at the stateline with Texas. Besides the 2 units there was a mid-train DPU which is at 1:23 on the video. Recorded on July 6th, 2024 at 12:36pm.

After stopping to drop off the conductor to visually check this Eastbound train as the engineer starts a slow roll. I'm assuming that it tripped the detector down the track a few miles back. Unfortunately, you can't see it in this video. Recorded on July 3rd, 2024 at 7:23pm

Caught this slow BNSF Grain Train pulling into Newman Siding coming to a stop just past me. Turns out the conductor got off to do a roll by on the engineer side. After the entire train entered the siding, the conductor started to walk to the head end, checking some bearings along the way. Recorded on July 3rd, 2024 at 7:20pm

After about 30 minutes waiting for Amtrak Sunset Limited to leave town. This UP "Heavy" was finally given the Highball to continue West to Santa Teresa Terminal. I am truly surprised they let this train run without at least another 4 DPU's to get up the hills to Santa Teresa 🤣🤣. Recorded July 6th, 2024 at 3:50pm.

This combined Intermodal Autorack was stopped waiting for the Amtrak Sunset Limited to roll by on the other track. Few minutes after the Sunset passed he started to continue his journey West. Recorded on June 29th, 2024 at 5:10pm.

Filming this train about 1 block away from the Junction from where the Golden State Route splits off the Sunset Route. And from what I believe, 3 subdivisions meet. The Carrizozo Sub, Valentine Sub and Lordsburg Sub. Here in El Paso. Local railfans, please correct me if I'm wrong. And this train has mid-train DPU's which you can watch at 5:18. Recorded on June 22nd, 2024 at 1:12pm.

Catching UP trains few yards away from the stateline of New Mexico and Texas. Unfortunately there is nothing marking the stateline on the right-of-way except for a steakhouse called The Edge of Texas across the street from the mainline. Train had a couple of DPU's and you can watch them at 1:23. Recorded on June 22nd, 2024 at 11:38am.

Caught this freight coming out of the Downtown El Paso Tunnel. With 5 engines, I was expecting a monster. Turned out a very short yard transfer 🤣 . From Alfalfa Yard in El Paso to UP's Santa Teresa, NM Terminal. Recorded on June 1st, 2024 at 3:53pm.

It came out over saturated for some reason. Didn't change any settings. Only thing it might be is the heat. The iPhone itself gets very hot, probably from the high res I'm shooting, also the 100+ degrees doesn't help ☀️🥵. Surprised it hasn't melted the circuit board 🤣. General Victoriano Huerta, a former president of Mexico was arrested at Newman on June 27, 1915. He was a passenger on the Californian and planned to deboard the train at Newman. The former dictator would then travel by car automobile to El Paso. Hopefully not waiting on the 4 lanes of U.S 54 to be completed before proceeding.

@@P30CH Today General Huerta is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in El Paso. More history in the area, about 24 miles out of El Paso on May 7, 1909, a journal failed on a freight car that EP & SW 171 was power for westbound. The railroad built a shoo fly around the derailment site. I figure that was about nine miles east of Newman. Today EP & SW 171 is known as Southern Pacific 3420. I am working on a history of 3420 but I have been unable to locate the site.
@@SouthernPacific-3420 That is totally fascinating. Having worked at several trains stations. Their history always fascinated me. Was the 3420 saved from the scrapper’s torch?
@@P30CH 3420 was donated to the City of El Paso in 1956. SP 3420 today resides at the FreePort Mc MoRan Copper Refinery in El Paso. I have put together a web site on 3420 if you want to lean more
