      Hi Wayne! Kudos to you for taking charge of your health! According to the USDA, daily protein requirements vary depending on height, weight, gender, and activity level. They have an online calculator that you can use to calculate your RDA for protein: www.nal.usda.gov/human-nutrition-and-food-safety/dri-calculator It's critical to choose sources of protein that are low in saturated fat. Check food labels or use the USDA FoodData Central: fdc.nal.usda.gov/ I urge you to avoid high-protein diets. As I mention in the video, high-protein diets stress the kidneys. You may find it helpful to study the Diabetes Plate method, which relies on relative ratios of different foods: www.diabetesfoodhub.org/articles/what-is-the-diabetes-plate-method.html#:~:text=The%20Diabetes%20Plate%20Method%20is,you%20need%20is%20a%20plate! Finally, while the internet can be a source of helpful information it is no substitute for consultation with your doctor. Thank you for watching and commenting. I hope this information was helpful. Best wishes on your health journey! I'm rooting for you!!

    Is the carnivore diet safe? Doctors are promoting this diet I can't see how this could be healthy

    • @intendwell
      @intendwell Месяц назад

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🙏 Could you please tell me more about what you mean by carnivore diet? Perhaps direct me to the promotion you mentioned? One point I want to make is that the details matter. For example, a vegan could eat lots of fresh produce and ancient grains or a vegan could eat lots of processed bakery items and potato chips. Both approaches would be vegan but the healthfulness varies greatly.

    • @intendwell
      @intendwell Месяц назад

      Hi Robbie, Thanks for clarifying. As I mention in the video, the popularity of low-carb / high-protein diets resurge periodically. The Carnivore Diet appears to be the latest iteration. Lots of people seem to thrive on these eating plans--losing stubborn weight, gaining energy, eliminating cranky digestive issues. Some of that success may be attributable to how they were eating before going low-carb. For example, if they were consuming lots of simple sugars then a low-carb carnivore diet could be an improvement. I agree that restricting oneself to just eating meat seems counterintuitive but scientific knowledge is ever expanding so I try to stay receptive to new data. That said, the most extensive studies I can find are 12-months duration so the long-term effects of low-carb diets needs to be researched further. Much relies on the implementation details - whether people are choosing lean meats or processed meats like bacon and salami (which are classified as a group 1 carcinogen). As I mention in the video, I know people who suffered adverse effects when they tried low-carb. Considering all the nutritional research that has been conducted, I think if there was one eating plan that worked for every single person we would have discovered it by now. Personally, I have not eaten meat or dairy for years and my health is the best it has ever been. I think we each need to find what works best for us individually.

    I’ll save y'all 50 minutes: • Forget about gimmicks like meal sequencing. • If you have blood glucose problems, *_stop taking in dietary glucose._* It's literally that simple. You have insulin and glucose problems because you're taking in too many dietary carbohydrates (glucose/fructose). If you keep your total carbohydrate intake below 20 grams per day, you will reverse your blood, sugar and insulin problems in just a few months. Your body makes its own carbohydrates on demand so there is no possibility of being low on blood glucose unless you are on medication that lowers blood sugars. The process by which your body produces glucose on demand is called gluconeogenesis. Don't make it more complicated than it is.

      Thanks so much for watching and making time to leave a comment. I wish dietary advice could be simple and universal but my 25 years experience as a certified Health Coach has shown otherwise. What works great for one person may not work at all for someone else. Since an apple has about 14-15 grams of carbohydrate according to the USDA, an eating plan with only 20 grams of carbohydrate could be difficult to sustain long-term. As noted in the cited research, one of the benefits of meal sequencing is the high rate of compliance compared to restrictive eating plans. Also, although the blood glucose and insulin curves are consistent for most foods, some low-carb / high-protein foods (such as beef) can spike insulin without raising glucose although researchers still aren't sure why. I'm glad that you found an eating plan that works for you. I would be interested to know how you divide your daily caloric intake across carbs, fats, and protein. Since I am always mindful of citing research from reputable sources (even though our knowledge is still evolving), I would appreciate if you would share your sources. btw the video is 16 minutes long, not 50 as you mentioned

      @@intendwell _"I wish dietary advice could be simple and universal but my 25 years experience as a certified Health Coach has shown otherwise. What works great for one person may not work at all for someone else."_ Let me know when you find a human whose blood glucose doesn't rise in response to dietary carbohydrates. Or someone whose insulin doesn't respond to increased blood glucose. _Since an apple has about 14-15 grams of carbohydrate according to the USDA, an eating plan with only 20 grams of carbohydrate could be difficult to sustain long-term._ Only people who are chemically addicted to dietary carbohydrates or those who have little control of types of food in the house (teens) have difficulty staying on a 20g carb limit. For the carb addicts, going on a zero-carb diet for 90 days will eliminate the cravings associated with carb addiction. It actually only takes about two weeks to go through the withdrawals, but the 90 day protocol allows for establishing new habits. Once the cravings are dealt with, it becomes very easy to stick to it. _”As noted in the cited research, one of the benefits of meal sequencing is the high rate of compliance compared to restrictive eating plans.”_ Very low carb diets aren't restrictive in the same way that not doing crystal method is not rrestriction In other words, telling someone who is suffering from alcohol toxicity to stop drinking alcohol may be technically restrictive, but its not like the restriction is on something that is bringing them good health. Same with dietary carbohydrates. Telling someone who is suffering from glucose toxicity to cut back on dietary glucose intake is technically a restriction, but it is not restricting you from something that is good for you. Also, although the blood glucose and insulin curves are consistent for most foods, some low-carb / high-protein foods (such as beef) can spike insulin without raising glucose although researchers still aren't sure why. Protein has a moderate insulinogenic effect compared to glucose. But it doesn't cause a "spike" because it is slower to release than glucose. Maybe if you're doing a hotdog-eating contest or something over-the-top like that. _”I'm glad that you found an eating plan that works for you. I would be interested to know how you divide your daily caloric intake across carbs, fats, and protein.”_ Calories are a measurement of heat energy resulting from combusting something in a bomb calorimeter. Because that has nothing to do with human biology, health, or nutrition, I don't include calories in any of my health considerations or choices. And, because I eat less than 10g carbs/day, I don't track any macros at all - I eat whenever I am hungry and eat until I am unmistakably full. That usually ends up being two or three meals per day; at least 2lbs of meat, 3 eggs, and a serving of some vegetable. All cooked in butter. The other day all I ate was two 4-patty, 4 cheese burgers from In-N-Out (no buns or sugary sauces). _Since I am always mindful of citing research from reputable sources (even though our knowledge is still evolving), I would appreciate if you would share your sources._ Sources for what?

    You are mistaken with “your” theory, orange is a fructose type sugar and in the metabolic process it “will not” be “converted” into glucose. Fructose sugar is the most simple sugar there is and our body was designed not to covert it to glucose. Fructose sugar is the only sugar that doesn’t need insulin to be transported to the cells, and will be accepted into the cells automatically. That’s even in the oldest book in the world, Genesis 1:29 where God tells man and the human race what to eat. You see, you can do this test your self, it’s very simple, eat some watermelon 🍉 (fructose) on an empty stomach and measure your sugar level, eat some green salad on an empty stomach: lettuce 🥬, tomatoes 🍅, cilantro 🌿, cucumbers🥒, etc, (glucose), and then measure your blood sugar levels, and your notice the difference. By the way, you can ask this to any frugivore that you can talk to and they will explain it to you (frugivore: fruit eaters)

      Thank you for watching and commenting. The main takeaway of this video is to encourage consumption of high-fiber, minimally processed foods (such as fresh fruit) to minimize glucose and insulin spikes, which - if I am understanding your comment - is consistent with your perspective. I did not mention the different types of sugar (glucose, fructose and sucrose) since it was not germane. The effect of fructose on blood sugar and insulin is moot since all three types of sugars are in an orange (4.19 grams sucrose, 2.02 grams glucose, and 2.36 grams fructose) and orange juice according to the USDA. fdc.nal.usda.gov/fdc-app.html#/food-details/746771/nutrients All three types of sugar are also in watermelon according to 2010 article in the Journal of Plant Physiology although the amount varies by species. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20036442/#:~:text=Sugar composition in watermelon, as,includes sucrose, fructose and glucose Hope that addresses your concern. Apologies if I misunderstood your point.

      Thank you, Michael. Learning how important our focus is has helped me, too. I used to direct all my attention to the gaps between how things were and how I wanted them to be. I was missing so much of what was going right in my life. Now I understand that whatever receives my focus magnifies.

    Hi Carolyn, Thank you for the highly informative video. I missed last weeks, will watch it. There is such wisdom in our bodies. I was thinking some of the most beneficial practices rarely get funded and researched. The experiment therefore must be done out of the laboratory. 😊

    What’s the science behind this?

    • @intendwell
      @intendwell 4 месяца назад

      Thank you for the question. The concept that everything is energy originated with Einstein. Scientists used to believe that the atom was the smallest particle of matter but now we know at its core an atom is pure energy. So, if everything is energy that includes our thoughts and emotions. Research on the human bio-field is ongoing but I am including links to a few articles. A paper scheduled to publish next month will establish much needed protocols for future research on bio-field therapies. One thing to keep in mind is that scientific research can be expensive and funding is more readily available when there is likely to be a positive ROI. Please let me know if this satisfies your question. Yes - she's gray and white vs black and white but I think the pattern classifies as tuxedo 😸
