Thank you! I use thin nails to hang the rugs on the wall.

I use very thin nails of 1.2 millimeters in diameter to secure rugs to the wall. Depending on the rug's weight, I recommend placing a nail every 30-50 centimeters along the top edge. While it may seem rough to use nails on such valuable pieces, this is actually a very common practice. These rugs are far more robust than they appear; with several million knots within a single rug, the impact of inserting a nail is minimal. In most cases, the nail merely pushes a knot to the side without breaking it, causing no noticeable harm.

@@carpetcollector Thank you for the reply. I will give it some thought. The Jamshidi's are Zar o Nim sized and despite the density of the high quality silk are not as heavy as the larger Seirafian (which is 13/13) and would require fewer nails. I hesitate to do it though for fear of harming even a knot!

@jms1367, I understand your concern, and of course, I cannot provide any guarantees. However, I can share that I have been using nails to hang even my most precious rugs and have never noticed any significant damage. A more labor-intensive but gentler alternative would be to sew Velcro to the top back of the rug and attach the corresponding side of the Velcro to your wall using nails or adhesive.

Was den Preis Ihres Teppichs angeht, ist dieser definitiv sehr hoch aber nicht vollkommen übertrieben (die ursprünglich angesetzten 12/15.000 allerdings schon). Ich selber verkaufe Özipek-Seidenteppiche in 13x13 Qualität in der Regel für weniger als ein Drittel von Ihrem gezahlten Preis, allerdings erwerbe ich sie meistens auch zu unschlagbar günstigen Preisen auf deutschen Haushaltsauflösungen.

Well I think if you know what to look for and follow these tips, you don't need decades of experience to tell the difference.

The points you outlined can all be faked or copied . if i was buying a new rug for use in my house , i am confident i can tell the difference between wool and synthetic fiber . however , if i was buying a rare antique where the price is dependent on origin , then other verifying factors would come into play , as in years of experience . For me it doesn't matter because i would never buy an old rug . if it's good quality wool , a style i like and a reasonable price then authenticity means zero to me .

That is correct. Still, there are several ways to tell the difference between a Chinese copy, a machine made carpet and a genuine handmade Turkish Hereke. I already published videos about this in German and I will publish an English version of them soon too.

Am besten sollte man versuchen Seidenteppiche durch regelmäßiges Klopfen und Saugen sauber zu halten. Eine Nassreinigung strapaziert den Teppich und verhärtet die Seide und ist daher nur bei ernsthaften Verschmutzungen zu empfehlen. Sollte diese doch notwendig sein, sollte man das dann auf alle Fälle den Profis einer professionellen Orientteppichreinigung überlassen. Da es in dieser Branche leider sehr viele Betrüger gibt, sollten Sie bei der Suche nach einer Reinigung auf seriöse Nutzerbewertungen achten. Der Preis der Reinigung für Seidenteppiche sollte 30€ pro Quadratmeter nicht überschreiten. Vermeidlich wichtige Zusatzleistungen sind nicht notwendig.

I have already shipped rugs to the US many times and there never have been any complications. You only may have to pay a small tax when receiveing the package.
