So, you all care about lines being translated correctly..... Till its something like this. The original line was a mistranslation, like, a really really bad miss translation and extremely out of character for tifa. Yet, everyone loves it and wanted the remake to have this mistranslation, but if the mistranslation made it seem like tifa was gay for aerith, yall would be screaming "god im glad they fixed that in the remake"

@@dannyd4339it literally, genuinely, honestly is a mistranslation, and a conscious one at that. theres literally no way to translate "don't say such things, you'll bring bad fortune" as "retarded". tifa is a gentle and serious mother-like person who doesnt like jokes about death. she scolds barret for making a joke about dying. because she's kind of a wet blanket a lot of the time. thats it. the one with frail feelings is you, because you dont listen to facts.

I looked it up in a Japanese LP, was curious about this too. She says ちょっと！エンギでもないこと言わないの! ; I'd say in context it means something like 'Whoa/Enough! Don't say that, or you'll jinx us!" ; "Stop tempting fate!" would be good too I guess. (probably it's related to 縁起の悪い - ill-omened/ominous)
