I wish somebody would upload the entire newscast of this. I was a teen in the 2000s, so this is the generation right before me.
And that was the awfulest reporter😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The beat?? Huh? Didn't music always have a beat? Lol 😅 It was the emergence of hip hop n street culture to clubs in the late 80s.nothing new, just new to them.
My era was 80s
I'm 56 & I also was part of that era + a native San Franciscan 18 was your best bet there at City Nights, seen Stevie B., Rodney O. Joe Cooley & J.J. Fad live at that club🤘🤘
origins of house music
Wow! 1988... That's when Cameron was dating Vincent. Just after leaving city nights, studio west became the hottest club in the city not to mention the palladium up the hill that also packed them in when Cameron was on turntables. Cameron inspired millions me being one of em. And yeah that was a lil bit of freestyle in the mix aka Florida Freestyle, we called it that as well on the west coast. Those were the days! If you're into freestyle check out my mix and or mixes.
The 80s maybe over, but I'm not over the 80s
Love this....if you went clubbing the was your first one you ever wear to.
The Stud: so much fun!
Dang. I'm a old Fart.
They were all hyphy and didn’t know it yet, it was a bay thing. Look at their dances & energy, we were bound to blow up. Bay Area stand the fuck up 🔥🔥🔥
Really? didn't know there was a name for it. I had "Beat" in my truck. Didn't know it became a trend name Hilarious!!!!!
I remember going there around 87-88 and bring 2 girls that were from London that were like 17 and under age. My friend that was a regular at City Nights got my friends a alcohol drink without me knowing about 10 mins after getting in the club. The security guards spotted them right away and kicked them out. I was so mad at him and didn’t talk to him for like 5 years. So after being there for like 20 mins. we took of to another 18 and over club called Palladium. I was already over 21, but there were not many clubs that were 18 and over back then. The 80s were fun in SF and the weekends what we all lived for.
3rd & Harrison ….. City Nights! 🙌🏽 Every Thursday to Saturday 💃🏻🎊🕺🏽
There’s no WHINING in Jujitsu!
These peeps are all in their mid 50’s or even early 60’s now in bed by 7pm lmfao
LOL... Maybe some... But, this 54 yrs old, more refined and sophisticated in his tastes and hangouts... Whiskey lounges and jazz clubs, but work in a night club for some dinner and dancing before the college kids join in. 🥃🍷🍸👍 Shout out to Loft in San Jose! (Hope they survived the pandemic). See you all there post-pandemic! Take Care & Be Safe! Cheers To 80's!!!
Yes i am lol
I was there Spring of 1988. Moved from NY to the East Bay. Great Times.
I was there too, but I do not remember teenagers being there! At the Oasis, City Nights, I Beams, The Palladium..The Stud.. D V8 DNA lounge and The Firehouse, Club 181.. we were in our 20's and 30's though, NOT teenagers- don't remember them!
And ... We called it "House" and some Acid jazz.
I went here in 1996 at age 18.
Wow!
😂😂 Been there a fewtimes in early 2000s back in my playa days 😂😂
Nice background. I was born in San Francisco. (In 1954)
1:57 I know what she did there with that question.
... and 2021. I was young and living in San Francisco then. I remember clubs that had a separate area. Needed a stamp to buy at the bar. Also, “The Cars That Go Boom”, era, yes. Didn’t try to make a life out of it though.
Oh the days of acid washed jackets hangin off the shoulders lol. This is when music was on vinyl records. Latin Hip Hop(Freestyle) or even referred to as "High Energy". Pre Techno days which would later transition to House. The world was still guilty but much more innocent then the sh**hole it has now become. All this technology & still no time machine...damn! Cheers to the good ol dayz(late 80's to mid 90's).
0:33 Sassa - When The Time Is Right (Club Time Mix) (1988)
“Fresh”! It’s been a while since I heard that slang..
The 80's style 😍❤
Those are 20s something teeanagers
Yo how the fuck did these guys know about TikTok?
I was there...now at 55...it was part of my life..my generation...long live the 80's
The Best Times! 🎊🕺🏽
Mee too 55 in 2023!
Damn! I’m 38 but can imagine how fun it was back then.
Me too. I'm so sad at the problems in sf right now. I used to take a bart/bus to the city by myself when I was like 12.

Love city night....good memories
DAS Klub, Club DV8, Club DNA (now DNA Lounge) Club X were the cool underground alt music clubs.
Don’t forget Sound Factory.
Uh...dude in white jacket at 0:40 wild boogie dance and young lady at 1:01 intense sexy energy 😬👍
Diana Yee (:53) pretty lady 👍
beat changed to *freestyle
wow. city nights is still open.
And it’s still ghetto and full of underage people
The girl’s hairdos 😂😱
Jolene!
Ahh the days of I O U sweaters, Drakkar Noir, and aquanet. Glad I lived it 🤘
that was a great club
san freakcisco sucked then and sucks today...
Lol. Typical bitter old man from a small town who was a virgin until 40. Lol. I know you are. 🤣🤣🤣
“The beat” sounded like freestyle, thats what it was called in NY
Yes. It honestly was more Miami Bass . Music they played in Atlanta.
Cameron Paul played freestyle and it was/is called that in the Bay.
Yeah we always referred to it as freestyle and I was there at the time. Bay Area 1980s. I never even heard of it referred to as the beat. It was definitely multiethnic though. Posses or crews were mixed race. Great times.
I sold the records at Star records to all the SF Bay Area and we called it “Frerstyle”. It was mixed in with what was popular at the time like Miami bass and groups like Salt and Pepper. Everyone was trying to be a dj at the time and many were doing mobile djing to make some extra cash. Great times and weekends back then was everything.
Who's watching this in 2019 ?
I’m here 2020
Me. I wish the entire special was uploaded.
I'm watching this in 2021! Cameron Paul was one of the best DJ's ever! May he Rest in Peace!
There used to be so many adults doing stuff in cities back then.. now it's a bunch of young gentrified people. Or at least everyone looks and acts younger
Shitty Nights!
Kiddie Nights
I remember that place in college. Don't forget the Palladium on Kearny Street in North Beach
That was the other big one. I totally forgot The Palladium. How?
That place was ghetto but was lit!
Then Gangsta music came... it should of jus stayed inda streets..where it came from the game was never to be told. Now the world went to shit....
It's not just rap music that caused the world to go to shit. Every culture has their hand in why the world went to shit. Every single one. Don't go only for the low hanging fruit. I feel like we can all agree that the world majorly went to shit after 2000. But how do we turn it back? Is it even possible? With the way social media has warped people's minds, behaviors, tastes, values etc...
Hahahahaha gangster music was out for years when this came out😂.ignoramus
They works went to bcuz of music?!!! You're an idiot.
I deflowered several young ladies in the bathrooms in the late 1980s :) I got badly beaten up by the bouncers in 1991 never went back #blameray
what does deflowered mean?
justin ching it means he took their virginity.
I deflowered Nicki.
deflower ... a word I have not heard for 10 years.
