TIPS ON HOW TO START A GARAGE DOOR BUSINESS WHEN YOU’RE 22
I can hear you but there is a long delay. Looks like you were asking yesterday lol
Its been in the low 30s to high 40s here with a couple of days being in the 50s but dropping this next week.
@@yt_dbh_fishing7347 The cold is no fun.
@affordabledoorgatellc7391 definitely not
Next week I have to do three 16 by 16 panel commercial and then one 24 x16 amarr 2422. The 2416 has vertical lift 72 inches, 16x16 will be at a 3/12 to follow pitch. I'll document the process for all.
I'm in south Carolina. Been in 20s past few mornings, then it's to around 40 to 45 by noon. I use a simple thing called invoice simple. App does not do everything but does what I need for sure. It's 20 a month. And BTW I do a lot of long hauls. But I charge different rates for service. 0-9 miles i charge 85 service. Of course, that's hourly. So if it's 2 hrs or 3 hours etc. 10-19 miles i charge 125, anything over 20 it's 185 service call. I also add .66 cents per mile from my shop. I charge 225 per spring change. That's one single. Double door has 2 springs then 450 etc etc. I do an install for motor and trolly for 550 plus tax. And I usually do a %20 markup profit.
Glad to see this. I had an opportunity to join their organization but after seeing all the negative reviews online I declined to move forward and took another opportunity instead.
@@theemodernmonk Good call ever since I posted the video it’s nothing but negative reviews for those services.
wow that thing looks sweet!
@@zulian420 It’s nice can’t wait to get it out in the field.
We occasionally use wayne dalton for commercial here and there but not for residential. I've never dealt with safe-way before but I like that the stiles span the height of the section. Nice solid attachment point for the opener.
Opener that’s a good point. Nice to have meet there.
The target plates work nice i'v used them on my duct jobs for setting hangers. I would set it up on a column and go to town was able to get about 80' without any problems. I would definitely go with the green laser the green is better to see at longer distances. Saves you a lot of time. make sure you mark that new one.
@@RichB0330 Good info as always RB thank you.
Can you leave it in a field for a few months and let us know if it still works? Just joshing you lol it looks nice. Thanks for showing us!
@@peters6850 If it quits working I’ll send it to you for doorstop lol.
@affordabledoorgatellc7391 🤣
I agree the bottom of seal is trash out of the box. Our company tells us to not use self tappers or shooters on it. We use a thin 5/16 self tapping screw and we install it at every major metal pressure point and a couple in between each pressure point i.e. the place where the hinges go
Good idea 👍
I would buy an 8300. I would stay away from the 6600 or this 8650 which is the same door with the wood overlay, the wood overlay pieces of trim will fall off eventually and they are a pain in the ass, not so bad with top and bottom sections, but middle sections forget about it. You have to stand there and press it against the sectionwith epoxy gorilla glue.
What’s your opinion on the overhead 391 garage door from the early 2000s they also have rectangular hinges. I absolutely hated 311s if you know what I’m talking about.
@@ekeesee95 never dealt with 391 or 311 if it was overhead it got yanked out and tossed into scrap hopper.
I was a residential garage door installer one time and I had a Hispanic guy take my information. He said his torque tube was broken and then he would like to have it replaced and when I got out there, the dude had 9405 top sections, a 9 605 second paneland 9102nd and bottom sections. The door weighed 191 pounds miraculously probably due to the fact that he had a couple of heavier 9000 series sections those doors are complete trash.
Also, oh boy, probably had stole those sections out of the trash in one of the neighborhoods lol
Omg what a nightmare.
That is messed up. O
The only thing I would say is with the u channel is if the floor is not flat you could complicate for it
@@RichB0330 That’s true 👍
My only complaint I really have with the standard Wayne Dalton doors is the way the bottom seal is designed, other than that I don’t mind them except for the 9000 series, I wouldn’t cry if they discontinued them some day
First one to comment. I might have a edge just saying lol. Keep those fingers people. 🎉
Hey Dave, thanks for the tips. Do you get asked to work on truck docks often? Do you have someone you send that work to?
@@tblanxRIPPIN We tried years back it just wasn’t a good fit for us. We have a couple of places we will recommend but for the most part they are on their own to find someone. I call it big boy stuff bigger trucks, crane, welder 👨🏭 You have to have vendors. Better to be a expert in one field then mediocre in many.
Good info. Thanks! I got an issue with mine. It’s in my garage. I turned it off and went into the house for maybe 10 minutes. When I came back out, there was a low flame, about the size of my fist, still burning inside. There was also a strong odor of gas. I’m not sure how to fix it. I’m not sure if it’s even safe to use again. I’ve been using it in the garage for about three years now. This is the first issue I’ve had.
I think they do have to be monitored all the time. I walked away from mine for 10-15 minutes. Walked back into garage and it ran out of propane I was like what’s that smell.
Would’ve been nice to have that linear, wireless mega code frequency interruption detector
Oh young man, Dave yeah I believe the same way LiftMaster’s thinking more about my Q and all that other crap
I have used mine to cut down so many trees and never had an issue owned for almost 4 years just leaks a little oil
@@coryroberson9234 The used one I bought off EBay is still kicking. Let’s hope we got the ones built on a Monday and not a Friday.

@@andrewkain31 I think I get what your saying. If you can send me some pictures or video. Daveadubson@gmail.com 231-720-9675 You got my Curiosity. Thanks.
Stick with the MetaboHPT's (I still have one branded as Hitachi 🤣) you can buy a recharge regulator for $40-70, (you do need a different lower pressure one for the 18ga guns) it just uses 110psi of regular compressed air... my 1st Hitachi branded 18v framing nailer is STILL working without being recharged! However I did need to recharge the 15ga and 18ga gen 1 models after several years of use... No broken/worn out parts other than chipping the nose on one of the framing guns from a long fall down to concrete lol. I still like dewalt for cordless finish nailers, just because of ergonomics/size/weight, but air piston styles like MetaboHPT(Hitachi) and Milwaukee etc. are really required if you use lots of hardwoods and full length nails (think staircases etc) that's the only place where dewalt nailers sometimes struggle with power... Just NEVER buy a Dewalt 20v framing nailer! Of ANY generation 😒 I haven't been impressed with Milwaukees cordless nailers... Not lighter or smaller enough and costs more than the MetaboHPT's... It's worth the headache of having another battery system and charger just for the nailers in my opinion... The MetaboHPTs have amazing battery life and the framing guns run fine off of a tiny little 3 AH battery (now they come with a 4 AH) Also they finally released a 2 stick magazine for the framing nailers that fit basically every older version... MetaboHPT 18v framing and dewalt 20v finish/brad/stapler is usually my go to, but keep the MetaboHPT/Hitachi finish and brad guns in case of hardwood/sandwiched steel flashing etc. where the dewalt may sometimes struggle 👍
Lots of great information thanks for sharing.
Get a good gas chainsaw period. After batteries this thing costs close to $600 and isnt even close to as capable, durable, or reliable as a gas chainsaw will be. Milwaukee is great for tools that should be battery operated or electric, but a chainsaw should be gas imo. A good gas chainsaw will last a long time and might become your favorite tool.
Your right gas will out last the electric stuff.
drop a piece of tube/shaft down the spring it wont flop over on ya
@@jeffreyjenkins3894 Great idea 💡
Thanks! This happened to my m18 15 gauge finish nailer.

I’ve had that tool fail on the loop even if I use the tool, I will still tap it with a hammer. I know when I do it with the hammer it’s not gonna come loose. I have a problem, trusting the tool

@@jessekaplan4972 I would do it all day if it was my place. If it’s a flip or rental probably the cheaper doors. I have 2” thick clopay on my old house loved them. I did do insulated glass on my doors. That insulated glass definitely felt like a spanking for price but I like to cry once. I didn’t want frost on my windows since it’s attached to the house. I do all kinds of weird things in my garage. Thanks for the email and support. I will reply at some point. If you got more questions or anything you can text me on my cell 231-720-9675 Have a great day.
I would definitely go with the Clopay 9130.
I rate my doors like this. Haas, midland, northcentral, clopay/ideal, amarr then last and for sure least farmer dalton
Farmer Dalton that’s classic 👍
We don't really deal with either brand but the clopay is definitely the better deal between the 2
I would go with the Clopay 9130 it has a polyurethane. Something to remember on the polyurethane door, the urethane inside will bond the two panels together, making it more rigid. I believe the 1 3/8 is smoother through the radius. Good luck on your decision merry Christmas and happy new year.
8300 is also polyurethane

And yes, that’s an outstanding price my cost per door same exact door as 1054.ea with all the upgrades
8300 polyurethane also
The Clopay is a way better built door and will have a lifetime paint warranty also. The Wayne dalton paint fades much quicker and if you ever damage a section, the replacements won’t match. At those prices, Dave the Friend either is giving him the hook up or he doesn’t know his numbers because that’s way too low. I would jump on that deal. I would estimate it at $6,000
I agree i’m literally doing 2 9x7’s for $5600 tomorrow 😅 and that’s after out bidding 4 companies!
It honestly feels like playing slots at a casino. The payoff doesn’t match the pay up..
