Enclosed Cargo Trailer Door Repair
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.Год назад
How to replace rotten trailer doors. A 14 minute video describing how to repair and replace trailer doors.
So did you have to buy new hinges, we repaired a 5 foot cargo door that was so rotted that the bottom frame had come off, we redrilled the holes in the same place and hung it but it is catching at the bottom. You can left up on the door so I am afraid that the hinges have sagged. They look good, no rust. Not sure what to do now.
Monica, I used the same hinges. I pre-loaded the weight before drilling the holes, knowing that once you tighten the screws, the weight will cause the door to drop slightly. There is some wiggle to the hinge, it will wiggle up and down slightly. Before drilling the new holes, I positioned the door where I wanted it to be and pulled all the wiggle out of the hinge by pulling downward on it, so it couldn't sag after it was completed. I hope this makes sense.
@@Jdnorris9187 thank you that helps a lot. I just put the back in the same holes, I may be able to adjust it and still have the holes hide underneath the hing, thanks for your help
Great job but don't bond the aluminium to the plywood. They expand and contract differently. Better to seal the edges with silicone on the edges to water proof and help prevent water intrusion
Im building a new box trailer and will be making a new door. Your break down was a big help. I need to find new h shaped aluminum frame. Was your wood in the door one inch thick?
Mr. Petersen, I am glad to hear it was helpful. I need to ask, did it show the entire process from start to finish? I tried filming the entire process, step by step and it took about 8 hours and I was filming myself, so I had 50 clips of short videos. I tried to edit them into one video but am not sure if the entire start to finish was posted or if it was only one of the first clips. If you could give me feedback on that. I will know if I need to edit it or alter the posts by others more smart than I. Thanks JD
It looks like it was full. Watch it till you reinstalled the door. Was the wood in the door 1 inch thick?
@@verdeanpetersen8350 oh, sorry I missed that answer. I used 3/4” BC grade plywood.
Great video
Thanks Armando, did it help you get your repaired?
@@jdnorris-dreammakeraiken I will repair mines soon
This is exactly what i needed, Thanks!
Clint, I’m sorry I didn’t reply sooner, I just saw this comment. I’m new at this stuff. I have the whole series from taking it down every step of the way and re-installing the doors and hardware. I just don’t know how to edit and upload videos very well. How many were you able to view? And did you get to repair your own door?
