    Nice. You've actually convinced me I can do this. Mine's 122k miles, new to me and no service history on it. Clutch is biting/grabbing fine, no slip, but it's annoyingly juddering on take-up so I'm thinking I might just go ahead and replace it. I've got the whole New England winter coming up, so I guess I need a project... Thanks!

    Thanks for taking time to put the excellent video together.. I know a clutch job on the 968 is far easier/faster than the 944's, but its still very handy and helpful to have a video providing a nice visual of the different steps and things to be mindful of.. And as the owner of two 968's I will certainly be needing this at some point.. :-) Looking forward to more 968 videos..

      I agree! I greatly appreciate the visual aid of a good walk through. Since I've hardly ever found walk throughs for a 968, I've started documenting the work I do as I go so that hopefully I can be helpful to other 968 people.

    Oh this will definitely be helpful when I will replace my clutch and maybe flywheel (depending on its condition)! My archive of maintenance records shows it was done at 60,000 miles. It's currently at 111,000 miles but the gap between the clutch and pivot arm is still good at the inspection hole.

    • @Clayscott87
      @Clayscott87 8 месяцев назад

      You'll be amazed at how big a difference the new clutch makes! I've got the backup flywheel I used in the video that seems to be in decent shape if you end up needing one and don't want to pay the 2k premium for new. But at only 111k, I bet you're fine.

  • @P̈̇̃H
    @P̈̇̃H Год назад

    Can I ask what issue you were facing before replacing the CMC? My 84 944's Clutch pedal works like it should but doesn't return more than 1/3 of the normal amount. I can pull it back out by hand or with my foot, but it no longer returns as it should. I want to be sure there isn't any other fix besides this drastic of a repair.

    My clutch randomly stopped working on my 944 while i was driving. The pedal still feels the same as it always has when i push it in. No loss of fluid in the reservoir. But it doesn't engage anything when i press it, i had to shift without the clutch to get it home. Any ideas if it's the slave or master or is it more Likely the clutch disc?

    • @LJC944
      @LJC944 Год назад

      Hi. I’m currently restoring a 1982 944 and the clutch goes straight to floor I’m replacing both master and slave at the same time then you know it’s all done and bled properly. Costs less than 200 well worth the job.

    • @Clayscott87
      @Clayscott87 Год назад

      If your pedal is operating normally and you can confirm it’s moving the clutch fork, then you likely have a clutch failure of some kind. The disk, pressure plate, or throw out bearing… if pedal does not move the fork, then it’s a master/slave/pedal/line failure

    • @rodribra001
      @rodribra001 Год назад

      @@LJC944did replacing the both the master and slave fix the issue? My 1983 944 currently has that same issue, clutch pedal springs straight down to the floor

      @Clayscott87 11 месяцев назад

      If your clutch pedal is operating like it should, but you can’t work the clutch… I’m afraid you’ve got bigger issues. You are likely looking at a new clutch kit.

    • @peterraif6900
      @peterraif6900 Год назад

      Usually, that means your bleeder valve is clogged. You have to pull the bleeder all the way off and then run a thin piece of wire through the little bleeder holes to clear the obstruction.

    • @Clayscott87
      @Clayscott87 Год назад

      Like @peterraif6900 said, you've likely got a clogged valve. You need to remove that valve and clean it, get a new valve, or a new slave cylinder. They aren't too pricey, so might be worth it to just get a new one.

  • @jaygerbrewer

    Did you have to pump the clutch pedal while doing this? If not which position did you leave it in, stuck down or stuck up?

    • @Clayscott87
      @Clayscott87 Год назад

      I did not have to pump the pedal. I think it works best if the pedal is all the way down to the floor. After it's bled and the bleeder valve is closed, pull the pedal up by hand and it should be firm.
