This seems to be a Viking style bowl/plate lathe. Turning centers should be at elbow height for spindle turning. Bowl hooks are not for spindle turning, nor is round (branch) wood, unless you intend to split the turning in two. At least you actually have a spring pole.

You can still find food storage buildings known as stabu in many rural places in Norway

Fascinating! I haven’t tried the tums and soda ash, but found that if I used very dilute ammonia as an after-bath, my wool would turn fluorescent yellow. I’m actually knitting with some of my weld-dyed yarn on a reproduction of a 1950s cardigan. Not particularly Viking….

Can you help me i need to make 4 bands in younger futhark runes. Can you tell me words for War, warrior, life, love, peace, eternity, chaos, and destruction. It would mean so much to me and help me out so much I'm not educated on thr younger futhark and i only have 4 days to make these 4 bands

I've found that unrolled cotton balls make good test subjects that you can make a small amount of a dye to test it out. Also one way to tell if there's a lot of iron in your tap water is if you regularly get a pink slimy film on your bathtub and sink that you have to scrub off. That pink film is a bacteria that consumes iron. So if you get it in your apartment building you know that there's at least a little iron in your water. I also recently experimented with heating my water in a kettle that looked like it was made of bronze, but could also be copper. Using this water to brew purple cabbage yarn made a lighter color with an unearthly glow to it. Not a literal glow, I mean the shade it developed. It was incredible. Also don't forget that besides urine you can get alkali from potash. Put your ashes out in a pot or jar before it rains, and then let the rainwater fill the jar and seep in. Oak produced high quality potash.

I am from in a program for Scandinavian Studies and I see these every now and again to see how people pronounce-butcher these. Most are WRONG. YOU are one of the few who pronounce these mostly correctly! ❤ (*Raidho is pronounced rye-tho) Really awesome video though and thanks for pronouncing the rest correctly!!!❤

I can get most of the changes that were done when they simplified the runic alphabet and created the younger futhark. However, I still don't understand why the younger futhark didn't keep the Dagaz, Pertho, Gebo and the Ehwaz runes for /d/, /p/, /g/ and /e/. It's kind of making things more complicated. I've also heard that the rune yr made an /y/ vowel sound too. Is that true?
