Hurricane Helene air supply bush plane mission
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Месяц назад
We used big tire bush planes to run supplies into Shiflet field which was covered in 4-6” of soft mud. We also made a ton of runs to several other airports like Elk River, Avery and Boone.

Old girl hadn’t flown in about a month and only a few cylinders were firing for a bit. Eventually the rest of the cylinders joined the party.

One of the most beautiful airplanes ever built.
I agree. So fortunate to own one.
Did all of the 195s come from the factory with 2 bladed props?
I believe so
Beautiful sound to put the baby to sleep by. Nice looking aircraft. 🇺🇸
My baby is now 6 and he hasn’t stayed awake for a flight yet!
That’s a mistake to cold start a radial without turning it through to keep it from hydro locking and bending a rod or blowing a cylinder
What makes you think that I didn’t pull it through a dozen blades before starting?
@both mags off and crank a dozen blades before starting if your a weenie and haven’t the strength to pull it through lol
@@JoeBurtrum*you’re
Who said it was cold?
@@JoeBurtrumnot a good idea. That prop weighs 170lbs and the momentum even on the starter will bend a rod. Pull the 12 blades, then crank 4 blades with ignition off, then distributer, once it starts to come to life, get off the starter and then turn on the magneto.
Nice
Keeping the tail up until stopped. Nice!
Love the 195 and a radial. If I had more money I’d own one. I fly a Pitts special and love it
Pretty bird
10 out of 10 Perfect!
Heck yeah
suabemente 🎉❤
I've never seen such airplane before, how much horsepower does the engine have? Love this short footage
Nice...
I have finished high school but I don't have money to go to college so a person like me wants to be your housemaid?
Damn radials sound so good!
Once landed on an up hill airport runway, and stopped short. Taking of, up hill, was fascinating. Got the speed, lifted the nose and took off. The instrument confirmed climbing. Looking out of the side window the ground was still accompanying the plane...
It should be a Ford 5.0 😂
I used to fly wave flights out of that airport to Mt. Mitchell. Can't believe how much water they had! Good job.
Awesome!
Clicked thinking would be an RC video, lol 😂
@@jstrat121 well it feels like I’m flying an RC airplane!

Nice!
Sounds great but can't watch the unnaturally strobing prop. Total distraction.
What Balls!
Nothing like the sound of a radial coming to life.. 😁
Proof that the camerman starts out recording footage as a baby.
Never knew Cessnas had radial engines.
Dyno numbers?
(6yrs later). You really should be bouncing that hammer head when your inspecting, it makes a big difference in definite detection.
Thanks. Doesn’t matter anymore. The boat was stolen out of a locked storage facility shortly after this video. Never recovered. People suck
@@steve91t omg,.. that sucks a fat one.
Damn... I would check Craigslist periodically
Sounds good😊
Nothing like a 195 with crosswind landing gear
Oh I disagree. I’ve never flown one with a X wind gear, but I want nothing to do with one. I’ve never had a problem with cross winds in the 195. Like any tail dragger, you gotta be on your game, every landing. But to me it’s a much easier tail dragger to land than many others I’ve flown….including 170’s.
@@steve91t I agree. Had one at our field long ago. You could hear the pilot cussing at the other end of the runway trying to taxi. Lol
Perfection…well done.
Pure art ❤
LONG LIVE THE RADIAL ENGINE!!!💪🏼🇺🇸😎
They are always smoky when they start, that's normal! ❤😊😊
Where do parts come from when it comes time for a major on one of those engines? I've always wondered that about all these old radials still committing aviation. Were warehouses full of spares manufactured back in the day?
lathes and the hands of machinists
There are several companies that support these engines. Two are Radial Engines Inc and Covington. I’ve never had a problem getting parts
Love a 195, could do without shakey Jake.
That’s the best part!
gotta love those old school turbines!

Very cool
I’m guessing you have flown that approach before. A real pro. Nice job bud
Definitely not my first. I’m still working up the courage to plop it on the slope itself. I’m getting there
Ramp takeoff!
The 105 Zipper mod is even more awesome with the EDGE EFI, just converted mine at 3310 hr TT, 50 hrs on the EDGE.
I’ve heard. It’s definitely on the list. But I worry about this early case able to handle the extra power
shit, i thought this was RC plane.
Put some servos and a rx in it and it would be, lol!
It feels like I’m flying an RC plane!
Love that pattern on the Kitfox! Nice landing 🙌🏼
Thanks!
Back in the 80’s there was one of these at the Oxnard airport on three flats. Tried to get the owners info so I could buy it but never found him. Settled on a 1948 170 and later stepped up to a 180, but always had my eye out for a nice 195.
