I swam the English Channel | VLOG
The English Channel is thought to be the pinnacle of marathon swimming. Last year I completed an English Channel relay, raising over $200,000 for charity. This year, I decided to take on the 32km swim... solo.
This was by far the hardest swim I have ever done, mentally and physically. It was never going to be easy but I did not expect how much I'd have to battle my own mind and body to reach the end.
Huge thank you to Tim Deyner from Red Top Swim who helped coach me on the day. I would not have got through this swim without him. If you are taking on your own channel swim, please reach out to his team here:

Swimming The English Channel | Short Documentary

On the 12th of June 2023, I and 4 other teammates successfully swam across the English Channel, raising over £130,000 for charity. This is our short documentary about the swim and why we chose to raise money for the Ukraine crisis and Cancer Research UK. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible and those who donated. This has been such a special project to be a part of and the money ...
My Most Important Swim | English Channel Qualifier
Просмотров 824Год назад
In this video, I went down to Lake Windermere to complete my qualifying swim, allowing me to swim the English Channel. In order to be allowed to swim the English Channel as a relay, you need to complete a 2-hour test swim in under 16-degree water, without a wetsuit. If I don't manage this, we won't be able to swim the English Channel, so this is arguably my most important swim in this journey s...
Behind the Scenes: How an OLYMPIAN trains to Swim the English Channel

I wanted to bring you behind the scenes and give you a look at my training for my next major challenge - swimming the English Channel. In this vlog, I'm taking you to the beautiful Gladhouse Reservoir in Edinburgh, where I'm pushing myself to new limits for me. The water was about 12°C and the goal was to stay in for an hour without a wetsuit. This is part of my preparation for the two-hour qua...

5 Minutes in 5 Degree Water | COLD WATER IMMERSION

As I build up my training to swim the English Channel this summer, I challenged myself to spend 5 minutes submerged in cold water to help build mental and physical resilience. The air temperature was just 2 degrees which added an extra layer of difficulty and overall more time exposed to the cold. FOLLOW ME ON OTHER SOCIALS: ➢ Instagram danwallace93 ➢ Twitter danwalla...

4.8 Degree COLD Water Race | Scottish Winter Swimming Championships 2023
I did it for the first time at 49yo and i do each year from then, but i SWIM (@400m), not stand. I would not try ti stand 5min in that water, especially if windy outside. Anyway for the first 25min i was unable to even speak well because of severe shivering, even i was in the car, heating on, winter jacket on. It follows for me this year too, but i did it in fresh water (i swim usually on two lakes from my area, one is natural, other one is artificial). First time will be this week for acomodation (water is still warm, @ 9°C), then at the end of december or middle january will be 5°C swim session :) Keep training, the channel is a dream for me too, but in my country is not easy to find sponsors for such a big amount of money :). Maybe i will won some lottery prize until i will be prepaired for that swim 😂
PS: I'm not fluffy/fat as well, but i'm slightly more muscular than you in the upper side of the body.. but i don't think that makes easyer could waters activities, the real advantage would be body fat (but i'm on my way to 53yo now and if i would get fat will be no way back to athletic body)
@@napraznicul that’s really impressive! Well done, keep it up, enjoy and maybe the channel will be closer than you think! 👏🏼
@@napraznicul yeh I struggle to put on body fat so building muscle was my focus for retaining heat, it worked 💪🏼
Politics and propaganda does not make good house with SPORT. Your father born "in western ukrain"- as any part western of odessa was STOLEN from ROMANIA and it is historical territory of moldavia/romania.. your words mean IGNORANCE and propaganda for UKRAIN imperialism. Our Romanian people in ukrain are very harsh DISCRIMINATED -why don't you swim for them, as they are the ones sent in first line of front? Anyway, your name sound POLISH but not as one of kiev russians (ukrainians).
Amazing job!! Inspiring. Well done Dan! Callum reckons he could do it one day..! No challenge to big for him 😂
Huge congrats! This is something that's always been in the back of my mind as something I'd love to attempt one day. This video has inspired me to take the first step and reach out to a coach to ask some questions🥹
Awesome effort Dan! Good to meet you last night.
Congratulations champ
Amazing!
Wow that coach is such inspiration. So easy to bark orders when being dry and comfortable on the boat. But to jump in and do the last couple of hours with you is amazing. Well done to you both
@@samwilliamson6601 he’s the reason I was able to finish! LEGEND
Listened to your talk last night with Outdoor Swimmer…totally inspirational and well done. A great achievement 👏👏👏

very inspiring guys
Ice swimming has gotten bigger here in the US. They hold a swim cold water event in a Vermont lake each year. Highly recommend. Totally cold.
Wow! Amazing feat. Congratulations. I'm nervous just swimming 2.4 miles in Ironman races. I can't imagine swimming what you did. Amazing athlete and amazing coach, as well! Well done.
A little warm blanket - excellent achievement t
Amazing achievement mate, well done from Ireland 🎉🎉
Thank you from Scotland 🙏🏼
@@danwallace93 no worries mate 👏
Its a dolphin.. respect!
Congratulations, Dan! I'm mushy, and I cried when you reach the French shoreline.
@@Tameasa so did I! I’m glad you enjoyed it watching and felt the emotions I was going through
Incredible video and an incredible achievement, great to see some of the mental struggles when it got tough and the support from the team to help you pull through. Definitely feeling inspired to work towards some bigger swims (although not quite *this* big) next year!
Amazing! Do you have a swim challenge in mind? What’s the goal? 🎉
@@danwallace93 so far the longest I've ever done in open water is around 3k. I've been wanting to work up to a 10k, doing something like one of the Lake District lakes end to end for that distance would be incredible 💫
👍
Thankyou coach..Words of encouragement can do wonders.
@@anthonydsouza4011 I couldn’t have done it without him. Tim knew exactly what to say and how to say it, I needed to hear it.
When you put your arms in the air at the finish that was 😭😭😭 You took ‘do hard things’ to a whole new level. What a team too. Massive well done to you What’s next 😂
@@Sallyannsworld I was so relieved to have pushed through and made it to the end goal. As you picked up, there was times I thought it wasn’t going to be possible! What’s next? Maybe something shorter and faster…who knows, stay tuned
Epic, well done, you have truly inspired me to get training harder, also not to give up when its hard. amazing swim.

@@danwallace93it’s amazing, been following your videos all year! I fell away from swimming competitively as a teenager about 20 years ago, started training to join a masters team start of the year - giving myself a year. Got hooked on the Olympics this year then came across yourself looking at pro Scottish swimmers on RUclips! Noticed you are cleaning the floor with the national records in your age category at masters too!! Love it 😎😎 defo want to try my arm at some open water swimming in future too! Keep up the great content! 🏊
I felt weepy and emotional watching your incredible effort
👍
Absolutely incredible effort! Congrats!
I did a 6 person relay crossing in June this year to raise funds for the Army Benevolent Fund that was inspired by yours. Ever since completing, I’ve been thinking about a solo crossing. In the meantime, if you need a swimmer for another relay then give me a shout. Well done for sticking with it 💪
superhuman shit. congrats
Awesome. Well done mate and epic editing/visuals. Loved it. Congrats.
Great effort, nice one 👍.
Well done, amazing effort and you really dug in deep at the end.
Amazing achievement, the mental struggle of endurance challenges was so obvious and powerful. Great video, well done!
Well done
Please do a video on your trainning
Thanks for sharing this. Was great to see it warts and all.
Amazing - this deserves way more views! I did a 7 mile a few years ago and remember crying into my goggles, it was that hard, just starting into nothingness and feeling so alone - I can't even comprehend going this far and for this long! Well done!
Nice one, well done dude
What a legend. Huge congratulations. Hiding my identity, all you need to know is that Squirt is a lightweight and swims like a sausage
Forever a champion
Epic lad! and credit to your team for not letting you stop! Congrats, what an achievement!
