Casters with cams - mobility in workshop
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.9 лет назад
Table saw, jointer/planer and plywood cart with casters. All are actuated by levers with cams. On the table saw cams are big and ugly - and they only work from one side of the machine. Cams on the planer/jointer are much better and can be operated from two opposite sides. The cart is usually heavy, 200-300 kg. Works great. The wheel mechanisms were an addition to an existing stationary rack. Ti...
The Stream - a whirligig
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.9 лет назад
For my dad. When the stream is flowing, he is not allowed to be out fishing on a boat. He is substituting the wind in the video. Benesh-type rotor is made out of aluminium and it's base is made from African Bibolo wood. Other parts are mostly birch plywood and different plastic pipes - also there are some different veneers and gravel. There are total of 15 wooden gears and 13 bearings used. The...
drill powered belt sander
Просмотров 439 тыс.12 лет назад
A small (13 * 457 mm) belt sander powered by a cordless hand drill motor, made mostly from parts lying around. Materials include birch (6,5 mm plywood & 18 mm glued board), melamine coated particle board, steel (3, 6 & 10 mm rods, a piece of tin plate, a small angle iron and 4 screws), PVC (32 mm waste pipe), vulcanising tape, rubber bands, a switch (12V/20A), some wiring and a used 9,6V hand d...
Hey, have you considered selling it?
No, I made a frame for it and hung it on my bedroom wall. :)
Hi, I have the same puzzle but im stuck and and dont know what to do ...I have 2 pieces that dont fit anywhere (im still doing the "frame" (the outer part) and im left with 2 pieces... both sides are 40 pieces , the bottom is 73 and top 75 but these 2 pieces dont fit anywhere in the bottom...
I was having similar difficulties for a long time, but got it right at last. It sure felt like there was something wrong with the pieces... I can't remember anymore, but probably I mixed up some side pieces with bottom pieces. The differences in the colors and shapes are sometimes very subtle. Also see my comment below on the cut pattern.
mallaca
How Long did it take you to finish? We have the same one and we are working on it now:
I think it was something like 100-120 hours.
@@ArmasLahtaaja oh my gosh. any tips?????
@@MsJetaime6 The cut pattern repeats; the left side pieces have the same shapes as the ones on the right side - so you might accidentally misplace some pieces on a wrong side, since they are almost perfect fit there too. Color changes are often minute so have some good lighting.
@@ArmasLahtaaja Thank you so much! this helps.
I heard about woodprix instructions good opinions.
I like your cat
Hyvält näyttää, sekä duuni että tekijä!
Brilliantly simple. What was the white pvc looking tube for?
Thanks. The tube is for connecting a shop vac.
Very nice. And about what I can afford.
Man, I would subscribe to your channel, but it seems that you're not posting anything, anymore. Too bad, you could've been another great source of inspiration for many... Anyway, congrats!
Thanks. I'm sure there will be more content some day. New smaller shop takes time to get organized and working.
Understood. Then... Here I am, subscribing to your channel, waiting for news from you :) Hopefully I'll post something in the near future. I'm planning to shoot making of some clamps using John Heisz idea. I just made one and I was sorry I did'n film the process.
the hi speed is of Max RPM:12000
+Gilbert Chircop It is probably much too high. A sander does not need a lot of speed.
but the transformer that i will going to buy has a switch that can turn down the voltage and it will bring down the the speed
because i have a motor that i buy from aliexpress and it is like this is it good for me www.aliexpress.com/item/DC-12V-Electric-Motor-Smaill-PCB-Drill-Press-Drilling-Compact-Set-10PC-0-8-2-5mm/32418721887.html
+Gilbert Chircop You will just have to try it. It might be a little small but might work, I have no idea. If you have some ball bearings to use with your sander, they will probably help because they reduce the friction a lot. I made my sander from whatever I had - and I had no money to buy parts for it. It was never a great machine and has a lot of limitations, but it still gets the work done.
now about the power did you use a 12V transformer or did you use the 230V with a 13A plug
+Gilbert Chircop I run the drill motor with a small (maybe 20 Ah) 12 V battery with it's charger connected to it.
I love it's simplicity. I think Im gonna make this one on week end. Can I have the cutting list of the parts?
+Gilbert Chircop Sorry, there is no list or plans. Just a video for inspiration.
+ArmasLahtaaja ok then thank you
ArmasLahtaaja: Super cool. Great job. don't know why anyone is giving you a thumbs down. You made something really cool, functional, portable and it works great. All I can say is they must just be jealous of what you have come up with. You can even go up a little more in size if you want too. Thumbs up.
congratulations on your work, very good design, very different, it is possible to know what is that white tube placed near the end ? which it is the function and if you can specify the actions , I do that , thank you, I am from Santiago de Chile
+JUAN FRANCISCO ROJAS Thanks. The design could of course be made much better but that is what I came up with back then - with very limited resources. The tube is for connecting a vacuum cleaner.
faut-il tout démonter pour changer le ruban ???
Good design except for the rubber band applying the tension to the belt. Rubber band does not have enough force. I would modify the design to use extension springs on each side to provide more force. The springs would also last longer than the rubber band which loses it strength with time.
+steve ling put more rubber bands if necessary, the surface area of the sander is so small that the resistance would be negligable
Yes there is absolutely no problem with using rubber bands. The force needed is very easy to adjust by the amount and/or length of the rubber bands.
That certainly demonstrates the viability of the design. The ease with which you hoisted that heavy lumber cart is impressive!
Using slots for building the frame, great idea. This might work for building a drill powered small bandsaw , Like dizzy swan drill powered bandsaw, but More simple.
cute design and Practical
Muito bom! Parabéns!
Nice work, I like the creative use of water.
I like it!
Excellent job!
Love the gears, that's intricate enough that I'm not surprised it took a year to complete. Well done!
Very Ingenious!
Excellent Job, I greatly appreciate you being part of the competition....
This is great! If you want, you can enter Whirligig Wars 2015 ruclips.net/video/jOjDisB530U/видео.html
I already have. And I really like your elegant bike. :)
Elegant, Very nice job
I like it :-) Simple and elegant. Thanks for showing us.
Just a toy.
A toy for a hobby, that's what hobbies are ... essentially playing. Don't you think?
Very nice simple design. Do you buy those 3 wheels with the rubber already on them?
Thanks. The wheels are cut from birch board with a hole saw and have layers of vulcanising tape around them.
Buy one for $30.00
Marvin L Stohs Sr Not in the Uk :-( and this is practically free.
Awesome! I could really use that right now
would you have any plans for this drawn up as it seems very simple to replecate
Sorry no plans; this bad video is all there is. You would not want to copy the machine as it is anyway - but you may want to use some ideas from it.
Great work. Beauty of simple
I have seen a bunch of these videos on youtube. But why do people not use a router? I'm thinking of making one for the large sanding belts. Would a router be better for that?
Not many people have routers :) and drills are more common.
A router spins at something like 30 thousand RPM. I wouldn't make a pulley out of wood and attach it to a router. What you might try is getting an RC model brushless motor with a low kv (rpm/volt) and running it at a low voltage, but I suspect once you add up the cost of the LiPo battery and ESC, it's cheaper to just buy a cordless or plugin hand drill. The only downside to using a hand drill is they have brushed motors which wear out with continuous usage, at least until hand tool manufacturers get with the 21st century and start using brushless DC motors.
puddingpimp DeWalt makes brushless DC motors.
This machine was made out of what was available - and I do have a few cordless drills from recycling center. Actually from their trash bin. Thrown away because they had no working batteries. Router I use for routing... And as noted above, router motor would be far too fast for a sanding machine. But, the point for my little machine - which is not in any way perfect - is that you can make one up from whatever you happen to have around you. Maybe the best things in my version are tensioning with ordinary rubber bands - works great at least with such a small sanding belt - and the use of a discarded drill and it's chuck. Definitely the table is the worst part of it - it is only supported from the center. That's why now it has the table replaced; but I do still use the machine and it works well enough so that I have not yet made a new one.
puddingpimp How can I make my router spins slower?
Very clever and "easy" design :)
This is Amazing! If I were you, I'd make a commercial assembly set out of this, maybe without the motor though...
Not that good, but hopefully there is enough idea for others to benefit and create something useful for themselves.
Genial
Excellent job!
great job, well done, but i think if you'll put two belts in the same time will prevent the cut of one and let you finish your job without turnig off this machine, or you can easilly print the belt with candom to brig her a long life
nice
Sound blast warning. Protect your ears.
What use is this thing?
pretty pointless really, you explain nothing
Sorry, it's not a tutorial.
NOTHING IS POINTLESS JUST WATCHING IS ENOUGH FOR SOME PEOPLE
If it were a tutorial you might have a point but to be honest I would rather see more tutorials made in the fashion of this video, which is short and to the point (and almost tutorial quality) and I don't have to listen to someone drone on forever as though they'd never realized they could edit things out of their videos. Just my opinion as I gleaned quite a bit from this video myself.
It looks simple to put together but how do you make it?
You make the pieces the way you can.
Best answer ever.
I think it looks excellent except for the rubber bands, it does not look like it will last longer. Thank you for sharing.
I still use the machine and the rubber bands don't break.
Using elastic bands for the wheel tension is quite clever!
