The bridge demolition marking the start of work on the York Station Gateway project
Back in October 2023 time was ticking for the small footbridge linking Queen Street to the railway Institute. Days later it was due to be demolished, marking the beginning of spade-in-ground work on the York Station Gateway project, which will see major modifications being made to the road layout and transport facilities at the front of York railway station.
Update: I held back this video until I had others to post with it, but somehow never got around to setting it to public. Things have moved on significantly in that time and by the end of this month (April 2024) Queen Street bridge itself will be gone.

Why I’ll miss the Intercity 125 High Speed Train
Просмотров 237Год назад
Last week I recorded a RUclips short of me trying to get some footage of an Intercity 125 train before they are withdrawn in the middle of September 2023. Today is the real deal though, my final journey to work on board a CrossCountry HST and I am in a reflective mood. join me as I attempt to film it arriving at York, before talking a little bit about what it means to me.

I was frequently hearing this song on a radio somewhere in the background when I was a child. It never got old and it’s was one of my favorites for road trips in high school and college. It’s even better as an adult. Thanks for posting this clip! I must visit Whitley Bay. It’s now on my bucket list.🏝️

First closure of the main road/bridge was last weekend. It was reasonably well sign posted, but some drivers were still confused, I assume given their manoeuvres. Assuming all goes well I think it will close again this weekend. Not the level of mayhem I was expecting, given it is a major bus interchange. Traffic seemed fine, I only ventured to the roundabout Round the Wall, near Lendal Bridge.

I just love how much quieter a locomotive hauled train is compared to DMU and even compared to some EMUs. They also just felt much more roomier and comfortable than the Voyagers that Crosscountry also have. I especially appreciated that these still had a quiet coach. I'm going to miss these trains but they had to go eventually I suppose

An excellent video. How do you make them? i enjoy your emphasis on sound. One of my joys is to stand on Newcastle Central and listen to the squeal of train wheels as they object to the sharpness of the track curve.

Just found the channel and it's delightful. I grew up in Bradford and worked at Salt's Mill in the weaving shed for a time and it was huge. The Tramway at Shiply Glen was always an element of a day out and it was the only place way back in the late 60s and early 70s where I saw Red squirrels and just wondering if they still exist?

Yes, York station is great. Leeds City is NOT, except for the art deco bit connecting with City Square, which used to be entire station concourse, but is now just shops giving onto a car park, not railway lines. How were all the lines running to or through Leeds accommodated on so few platforms? Leeds Central was then operating, just down the road in Wellington Street. I remember it only as dingy, poorly maintained and unloved. The original Saltaire "model village" was built not only with superior, comfortable housing, but nurseries, good schools two libraries, a theatre and all sorts of worthy amenities. But NO PUBS -they were BANNED. As you point out, Titus Salt deemed "the use of alcohol as a beverage" to be the road to perdition, but just for the working class, not for him. He wasn't actually teetotal himself, and enjoyed fine wines. What sort of crite did you say? The name of the pub you went to is not the only thing taken in vain. I haven't been there for many years, but I'm told there is now a fashionable (i.e. probably expensive) bar called 'Don't Tell Titus'. I hope it continues under that name.
