Lawn on point! #kikuyu #lawnporn #lawncare
Просмотров 912 года назад
Sometime if you can’t get out on an adventure you need to make your own adventure at home. I know this isn’t a woodworking video, but this is the first little edit I made after I got a GoPro for Christmas. This is kikuyu grass grown in Perth, Western Australia, using mostly @lawnporn products. Filmed with a @GoPro #hero10black The mower is a @MasportLimited Olympic 500 The trimming and edging w...
Reframing a piece of art with solid walnut
Просмотров 1522 года назад
This video shows how I made a new picture frame for a friend of mine. His parents gave him the painting years ago, so it has huge sentimental value for him, but the old frame was outdated and didn’t match the rest of his house. I started with rough sawn walnut to make this solid frame, with matching walnut splines to reinforce each mitred corner joint. My table saw made quick work of the front ...

Unboxing and installing the Kreg Precision Band Saw Fence on Carbatec Bandsaw BAS-350B

Want to hear the most annoying sound in the world? Listen to this blunt blade struggle at the end of the video 😫 It’s #newtooltuesday I scored a bargain on a second hand bandsaw recently, which was unfortunately missing the fence. I picked out the #kregaustralia precision band saw fence and made it fit. Now to watch all the metalworkers squirm watching a woodworker try to tap a thread 😆 😂 #shap...

    This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!

    Just a tip: you should take the filter out of the shop vac and use a bag instead. Much better for your lungs, and catches way more debris.

    • @corwind3888
      @corwind3888 8 месяцев назад

      I have a bandsaw that also has the blade slot coming out the front like this so I have to remove the fence when swapping out blades. On mine, I mounted the Kreg fence to the original removable front rail so that I can remove the two as a unit when changing the blade. Much better than mounting the Kreg fence rail directly to the saw.

    Why the pocket holes instead of just screwing those in from the back? Like half the point of pocket holes is hiding your screws and this here makes them more visible. It also seems like it would be structurally weaker this way as the screws are biting into less wood.

    • @ShapingSawdust
      @ShapingSawdust 2 года назад

      One of the big appeals of pocket hole joinery, for me, is the added strength when using only screws to secure a butt join. If this was made by just screwing through from the back then the screw would be running between the laminated sheets of the plywood, or straight in to the end grain if this were solid timber. Instead, the pocket hole allows the screw to enter the timber perpendicular to the grain direction, which gives the thread more purchase and is less likely to pull out of the wood. As for whether or not the screws are hidden... given that this is just a rough shop project, hiding the screws was low on my list of priorities.

    How has the MDF top held up to the clamps? I got a set for Christmas and was wondering if I needed to remake the top of my workbench or if the MDF would hold up with the clamps routed in the top.

    • @ShapingSawdust
      @ShapingSawdust 2 года назад

      It's been pretty good. There are a couple of sections where the MDF has started to delaminate because I tried to clamp something to the able which had a void between the workpiece and the tabletop. In every instance where the workpiece was clamped flat to the tabletop it's been plenty strong enough.
