The Rocks Of Bawn
Просмотров 422 года назад
Sadly, people working flat out only to get poorer while others enrich themselves is nothing new. The Rocks Of Bawn is an Irish song, probably from the early 18th century. (The second verse seems incongruous to me: it offers detailed and apparently friendly horse management advice to someone, probably a landlord, who is castigated in the next verse for lazing around at home with his dúidín (clay...
Memory Palace

The method of loci ("places") uses the imagining of familiar spaces to enhance recall. Known also as memory journey, memory palace, or mind palace, the technique dates back to the ancient Greeks. According to Amnesty International, around the world an estimated 3.2 million people are in prison who have not had a trial.

Cassandra Speaks (slight remix}
Просмотров 213 года назад
The figure of Cassandra is often referenced even today by those who wish to deny the existence of a crisis, portraying her as an unreliable, hysterical doom-monger. They fail to consider the other aspect of the legend: that although she was never believed, she was always right. This is a remix of the song.
Photo finessing fun - with Gimp.

Flood Coming (2021 update)
Просмотров 483 года назад
In light of the recent IPCC report on climate change, I thought it was time to revamp this one from 2005. I’ve shortened it and tried to make it grittier, louder and clearer. If only the same amount of effort had been expended since 2005 in making effective change as has been put into denying the problem and smearing the science. There is some Biblical language in the song, but don’t draw any c...

So sad to see both main school and upper school derelict and now demolished. Came across an old school photo from around 1980 the other day (hence why I'm here) and it struck me how skinny kids were back then. I'd like to say I have happy memories, but I didn't like school much - like most kids I guess!
Fab song Mark. Love the chord shifts.
beautiful.
Living in Swindon we regularly saw her fly over during these early test flights. Then were under the flight path from Heathrow to New York. It was a sad day indeed when she flew over for the last time.
I was stationed at RAF Fairford in 1970. I was on POL refueling the Hercs. and I have some old b&w photos taken by me. I remember the day Trubshaw took Concorde almost vertical on a take-off.
wow that's a coincidence. i worked with Pascal in the 90s!
this is really good! and i love the lyrics :-)
Thanks! The lyrics were inspired, in part, by Owen Jones's book Chavs.
Stop climate change! GO VEGAN! Please share my site
Fab catchiness of tune. Foot still tapping. And the message not suffering for it either : zeitgeist without being too cheesy. Mickie Most would've signed you up. In fact, Micky Moist, after hearing this. Shades of Talking Heads ? I know, I know - how annoying it must be when every smart arse who's never picked up an instrument, let alone picked a string, wants to find some (imagined) influence. Great work, Mark.
Thank you Gary, high praise indeed. And your comparisons bring no annoyance, quite the opposite!
Think this is my favorite version
There was no woodwork shop in the upper school! Also it wasn't a sixth firm college and it still exists! The art department was actually English
Actually, Carl, that was the woodwork shop. It was above the wood store and the outside toilets. Edward Maurice Baggaley was the woodwork teacher - he retired in 1975 after 40 years at the school, the same year I did my O levels. You're right about it not being a "sixth form college" but after the merger with Corpus Christie the Upper School housed just the 5th year and the 6th forms. Years 1-4 stayed at Ruddington Lane. That building (certainly when I was there) that you called English contained the Art and Music rooms. Art was downstairs and Music was upstairs. I seem to recall the music room only had two LPs - Peter & The Wolf and the Grieg's Peer Gynt. Perhaps the rooms were used for different things in different eras - it all depends on how old you are, I suppose.
@@HoughtonMedia hey, is it still abandoned? I hope it hasn’t been demolished yet because I’d like to have a look around
@@Smile-cg8st Bad news. The place was knocked down years ago and there are retirement apartments on the site now.
@@HoughtonMedia Edward Maurice Baggaley was a war hero. He served in the Far East, and i remember he telling us that the Japanese were animals. He said that they urinated at the foot of mahogony trees to kill them.
Oh, but it has been released now, on the Live at the BBC volume 2 collection
This is on the “Bootleg Recordings 1963” album. The version on Vol. 2’s from August 6th

Very haunting!
Very haunting Mark xx
Hello Mark!. Great cover. Also, I'm wondering... are you same Mark O'brien than V/A Folk Music in Tuzmadoner records?
Hi, and thank you. Yes, I was indeed on the Tuzmadoner Folk Music EP many years ago!
Awesome, great 12". Catalina tapes is my label, can you pass me yout email contact for a possible issue? Mine is: catalinatapes@gmail.com Best!
Excellent. Wish my Spanish was as good and that I could sing!! Well Done.
it's italian :)
Lennon...Gotta love the band.
what a great singer he was
Best yet! Well Done.
awesome
It isn't about me.
Cheer up, Mark!
Another great song, Mark.
Yes, Cream. Listen to the first four bars of the solo that concludes the studio version of "White Room". I've been plagiarised; Clapton clearly owns a time machine ;)
cream?
really good
Excellent Mark!
My sentiments entirely.
Coooooool!
Tremendous!
Excellent guys
Great memories nice footage I filmed the same while serving in the RAF at Fairford 69-71 slept through the engine test runs with the unsilenced engines we used to watch her takeoff to do the runs down the Irish sea during testing then ewatch her come back in with the Canbera chase plane with her greatest time of my life in the RAF. this clip is her taking off on 09 Thanks for posting
What Section were you on? I was POL refueling both vehicles and aircraft.
@@arthurduncan5999 I was on MT we used to go to BAC at night and they used to let us look at Concorde. I had cine film of Concordes first landing in 69.The week after that I had my car broken into and like an idiot I left the camera in my car and I lost the footage 😟
@@footlaunch1 I probably refuelled your vehicles, our refueling hut was at the entrance to the airfield and the petrol pumps were just up the road.We also viewed the inside of Concord with all the banks of instruments.
@@arthurduncan5999 If I remember there was only a few rows of seats and like you say the rest was all the test equipment good times good memories.
@@footlaunch1 I was posted back to Lyneham after Fairford and demobbed in 73
I love it!
Great piece Mark, very haunting!
Excellent Mark. Francis.
My wife Kathy’s Australian grandfather Dr Leslie Griffiths, his son Ian, and a British man called Robert Harris were killed together in Lurestan, Iran, in 1942. They spent the last years of their lives in Esfahan (aka Isfahan), and are buried there. The song is a by-product of my research into their deaths. I have never been to Esfahan and would love to go, but the deterioration in relations between Iran and the UK makes any visit too risky at present.
My understanding is that Cocorde was on trials at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire in 1969 and 1970, and we holidayed somewhere else in 1969.
good song! are you still playing this?
