Order of Scribes Wizard - Subclass Review - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything - D&D 5e
I’m starting play D&D and I did a lot of things made out of fimo (is a polymeric colored clay) I did walls doors and everything, coins, potions tokens, flat figure with card glued with the images of the monsters, and status rings all with 30€ of FIMO, I looked every were on yt but non many people talks about it. Fimo is cheap and I can do whatever you want with it
Its funny warlord is the first i making the class for 5e in homebrew for my game
I use a sheet protector and a grease pencil (China Marker). This allows me to write down active spells, changes in HP, mark off spells selected spells, etc with ease.
$30 set of dice.... WTF!
Lol yes, but you get 31 dice... a normal dice set of 7 is around $10, so it makes sense
Awesome video! I love the way you explain things
Thanks a bunch, I appreciate that :)
I love this video as a new digital based player , I'm in a campaign, and everyone needs to learn this there ! 😂🎉
Hi Short Rest, I love your videos and was wondering if you would like to do a collab?
I’m very disappointed I wasn’t able to play my Swords Bard. Was going to retire my first character because their arc was going to end and they didn’t have a reason to keep adventuring so was working with the DM to built a replacement character. She was going to be coming in at level 8, 5 levels of Swords Bard and 3 levels of Hexblade Warlock, was going to be a two weapon fighter to have more options to do with that bonus action since there’s so many options when you mix the two classes together and of course doesn’t hurt to just get another attack in. Jeremy Crawford even said that you could extend that hex weapon to multiple weapons so both of my weapons are magical and equally as strong minus the improved pact main hand weapon. Mixing Bard and Warlock in general is really strong in my opinion but Swords and Hexblade are just a perfect mix in my eyes Wasn’t able to play her because my DM wasn’t able to continue being our DM anymore and ended the campaign right when she was going to join the party and then I took over as the forever DM and maybe will put in an enemy Sword Bard so I can get a chance to play one lol
I'm building a half-sun-elf Vistani Spirit bard, who roams with her carnival group all over the world. She's the fortune teller, and will use a crystal ball, so she can scry for patrons who will pay for the in-depth mystical experience.
If you can cast guidance out of combat, you can use elegant maneuver out of combat.
Magnetic initiative tower. Syrinscape Wooden house puzzles from Temu Adhesive 1 inch magnets and an adhesive clear top to create tokens Jenga blocks for walls 5 different maps that come in a tube Dry erase nametags for players to put abilities, spells cast, or feats like Alert on. Then place them on the table in front of them. Dry erase name plates for their character names
Two things I think could change to make the theme more coherent: The Accursed Specter is out of place and could be replaced, I just don't know what with; and Cone of Cold is a bit out of place on the spell list- it is a pretty good spell, don't get me wrong, but Steel Wind Strike would be a better 5th level addition for the theme.
For condition rings, just buy a bag of mini assorted rainbow rubber bands from A dollar store, Walmart, or hobby lobby. Max of $3-$4 for a bag of 100s. Smaller than 1" but still works in a pinch
i really appreciate you sharing DIY options or things you can use from every day items. it helps a lot with players on a budget!
I know a few times I did base stat of 8 than roll 6d10.
I think fiend warlock is fantastic flavor wise however I feel like overall this warlock has fallen short with the existence of the fire genie (exact name elludes me) patron where you can snag a better spell list and significantly better features imo but that’s just personal preference
Thanks for vid
I will forever make these suggestions for MasterMinds. 3 level dip into Rune Knight. Fire Rune gives expertise in all those tool skills and Cloud Rune gives advantage on all Deception and Sleight of Hand checks. Just these magnify the Mastermind significantly but you also get access to all arms and armor making for more convincing and functional disguises, another tool skill and that action surge. The Historian feat pairs with the Master of Tactics very nicely, and the Hobgoblin of the Feywild's help action feature stacks with both. So, as. Hobgoblin Mastermind with Historian and Runeknight makes something like Runeshaper background very flavorful and thematic.
The short lived tv series "Jack of All Trades" starring Bruce Campbell is the perfect example of a Swashbuckler.
I personally don’t use the encumbrance rules tbh. I feel it bogs down my campaigns
The mastermind is one of my favourite subclasses in the game. Not strong but its flavourfoul. I find other ways to be strong cause otherwise it seems like I min max while not doing it. Also lvl 3 and lvl 17 abilities are perfect
There is no need to nerf the multiclass ability of the hexblade. It opens up a lot of options and that is the good thing. I dont see why there is this constant need to nerf everything where I look...lol. The game needs buffs, not more nerfs. Multiclassing, even one level, already can be bad for a lot of classes, and the ones it isnt bad for, probably need the help anyway...
so helpful 🤩
A Shadar-Kai Hexblade Elf seems quite flavourful.
Fireball or thunderwave cannot deal damage to echo, they are targeting only creatures
Good catch, I did get that part incorrect. Thank you!
Does Armor of Hexes negate a critical hit against you?
If it is the target of your Hexblade's curse that is hitting you with the attack and you use your reaction to roll a 4 or higher on the d6, then it will miss even if it was a crit. If you roll 3 or lower it will still hit and still be a critical. The text doing the heavy lifting here is the part of armor of hexes where it says "the attack instead misses you, regardless of its roll." This is a case where the specific rule (armor of hexes) carries more weight than the general rule (criticals)
Idk why id assume most swashbucklers would have not only have two swords. But also 6 knifes. 3 daggers. This archetype seems like the play it by the moment type of person. 😂 Not too bright but under the heat of the moment delivers. This character creation should be fun 😊
To me, acursed spector feels the most out of place ability for the entire subclass, it feels like an after thought to try and stick with the shadowfell theme, and if u change that bit of theme/story the spector really feels out of place, for example like if u found a sentient weapon with an angel or some other "good" type creature within, in this case i have made a defensive ability reaction instead that gives a small boost to u or someone in ur party's ac temporarily (proficiency times per long rest) it makes the ability a bit more useful and waaaay less niche...
Just pick Vengeance paladin and flavor it for glory
Hey! Just discovered your channel, love your work! I was wandering if you'd like to do a Cicle of Dreams Druid subclass guide! I really love the subclass and it's never mentioned by anyone in any video about druid subclasses (I know it is less powerful than other druid subclasses but still I don't think it's "bad"😅) Keep it up!💜
Hiya! Thank you for your kind words. I admittedly post much less these days, but thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely add it to the list of potential videos.
I'm a bard with a boomerang 😂 very effective
If you wanted to play a ranged rogue you would never be picking swash as you subclass. Hex-buckler is my clase. Hex. Curse. Booming blade. 1d8+3d6+1d6+1d8+6 at lvl 6
So many people seem to pronounce "Rakish Audacity" as "Rackish." It's actually "RAKE-ish." Like the word "rake" but with an "ish."
Interesting! I learned something today. Thanks for educating me!
Condition rings are on every plastic pop bottle you buy.
Powerade or Gatorade are the best ones for the size anyway
I never played 4E. However I am interested in the variety of classes. I would like 5E better if all the classes were in there. The one that stands out most to me is the shaman. I am so glad this video covered it. World of Warcraft had both druid and shaman from the start. They are my two favorite classes. They have awesome flavor with nature magic. They also have hybrid playstyles, which are really fun to play. It is disappointing that 5E has druid but no shaman. 4E has both classes. I want both of them. Shaman has a big significance in real life. Shamanism is the first religion and the first kind of magic in all history. It has an ancient and primal quality. It is tied to nature with the drumming, visions and animal spirits. I have a lot of respect and admiration for the shaman, because that forms the foundation for all other magicians and clergy. I did make a class system with all classes being magicians. Shaman is actually one of four basic classes. The other basic ones are mage, priest and warlock. The shaman is the main class for nature magic. DND calls this magic primal. In both my dystem and the 4E system, shaman and druid are both classified as nature magicians. This video does have the idea of different kinds of animals forming different subclasses. WOW already used that idea, and it is awesome. Druid subclasses focus on the different animal forms that the druid turns into. The focus makes that particular form stronger and more powerful. Owlbear is the form for damaging spells. In World of Warcraft, this animal is called moonkin. Cat is the form for melee damage. Bear is the form for tanking. Tree is the form for healing.
i decided to go with this for my first ever campaign. thanks for this video, super super helpful!
Tsk, 2nd ed Boneless art was, IMO, more disturbing. Also, for the skeleton/boneless combo, save the split for when the skeleton makes a successful attack; imagine the sin just suddenly leaping off the bone to wrap around the attacked target.
Likewise the carrion Stalker, the armored bug look is less scary, to me; the original was all bug/flesh/tentacles.
I apologize for the complaining, but Dullahan as undead is just not for me; they were not a headless corpse; they were a fey creature, whose head happened to be separate from the body, in the folklore.
Baldur's Gate did Swords Bards so good. It inspired me to do an archer swords-bard. Im debating between a rogue or fighter multiclass (scout or battle master). The Baldur's Gate slashing Flourish is just so much better. An extra attack where both get the flourish damage, the push is 20ft locked from mobile flourish. The defensive one has no ceiling or floor. Flat 4. Just so good and such a fun playstyle.
Excellent analysis of the Fiend Warlock, overall I wish Wizards had done a better job designing the Warlock myself, so that it's not just a glorified 2/3 level dip for most players. This is Robert by the way, not sure why youtube isn't using my name anymore.
Hi Robert, thank you! And I totally agree with you. The Warlock is probably my favorite class when it comes to theme and flavor, but the design behind it encourages small dips which is a bummer. I certainly have my fingers crossed for the revised books that are upcoming next year
A bit confused how this scoring system works. You gave all the subclass features 3s and 4s out of 5, but gave the subclass a final score of 2/5?
Fair! There is certainly no averaging or equation involved with the scoring system. Largely opinion and feeling based here. However, more clarity and congruence could be helpful. In retrospect I should have either bumped down some ability rankings or bumped up the overall ranking. That being said, 2/5 DOES feels right overall to me, since there are many better bard subclasses in my eyes and this subclass seems to be a below average one nowadays. Either way, In the future I will plan to make sure these scores are more in line and congruent with one another. Thanks!
Would have preferred if the hexblade had been far more dedicated to the melee theme in the later levels. Instead of it being a random hodgepodge of ideas that are forced together into a subclass. All the meat is right at first level.
I agree the theming loses steam the further you get into the subclass.
Tabaxi swashbuckler FTW <3
I'm planning a dragonic blood sorcerer with 6 levels in blade bard. Thematically a dancer woth high CA and meele. But does this subclass works with whip?
I ❤️ all the extras! Probably bcs of years of just playing Theater of the mind. Also, i have that curated dice set too and I love it
Started my Tabaxi at Lvl 1 Fighter for Duelist fighting style, after that it's Rogue all the way. Essential to pick up Resilient DEX feat at Lvl 4! Again, I'd recommend Defensive Duelist as a MUST Feat.
Defensive duelist is a pretty fun and thematic feat for this subclass, solid recs!
I saw someone use an overturned clear plastic cup to set the flying mini on. you can even fly over another mini by placing the cup over the other guy.
I like that idea a lot!
Always skeptical of laser engraving? LOL, WUT?
Probably a difference in aesthetic taste 🤷 depending on design and execution it often looks tacky to me. Though, I like it on this product.
Skinny minis and the like are crazy expensive - almost as much as 3d minis. There are some off band minis thar are even cheaper. Altoids tins are an even better and cheaper option. Good choice on the initiative tracker. With the sticky tabs, make rings of colored tape to match. For flying, i bought a small number of .5" clear plastic dowels, and cut them for different elevations. For encumbrance sheets and character sheets, put scotch tape over the dynamic value areas. Then it works like dry erase. Better yet, use a sheet protector...
Plastic poker chips are super cheap... And a sharpie for condition rings
Depending one what level your campaign will reach, six levels into Swords Bard would probably be the best way to increase your combat and support abilities, plus it would give you an extra bonus to your Initiative equal to half your Proficiency Bonus. One should always strive, however, to get twelve levels in Rogue whenever possible, since you get an extra ASI at 10.
Swords bard and swashbuckler rogue is certainly a fun multi-class!
