What I have learned from Equus justice system is the more power the better your treated Nightmare Moon was immediately reinstated as princesses despite potentially attempting to kill Celestia and bring Eternal Night, while she was imprisoned when she returned she immediately went back to trying to bring about Night Eternal Discord was “reformed” despite turning Equus into chaos multiple times likely causing huge amounts of suffering, even after he was “reformed” he continued to cause issues yet was never punished, hell he betrayed everypony for Tirek almost dooming Equus Starlight Glimmer created multiple timelines causing untold suffering, after they finally saw they where destroying the world they only stopped because Twilight offered them friendship (while she was still winning) and she let in, in return she was given a high ranking position at Twilights school However Cozy Glow is a weak pegsi filly, after they are exposed they are NOT a threat (as long as everypony knows about her) she has no magic so there’s no point locking her in Tartarus. While yes she was not remorseful after she lost you forget Starlight was given like 20 chances before she surrendered each of them another timeline destroyed

I think the theme of fairness vs. deservedness is the perfect avenue to explain my analysis of Cozy’s capacity to be reformed. I agree that Tartarus was deserved, however, I don’t believe it was fair. I hate to bring up Starlight as the punching bag for this since she is so commonly used as one, but she is the one with the most comparable situation to Cozy. A serious flaw in fairness when it comes to Starlight’s reformation that I think many overlook is that she was aware of the consequences of her actions. In School Raze, there is never any definitive implication that Cozy is aware of the consequences of her actions. It’s definitely true that she knows that the spell will drain all magic, but we’re never given the direct meaning that she knew what would happen with magic gone. Starlight and the students being sucked into the vortex was something she probably knew the consequences of, as well as trapping the Mane 6 in Tartarus, but aside from that, there is no proof that she sought to harm anyone who didn’t interfere with her plans. For example, the magic drain caused Yona to drop from the sky almost to her death, but Cozy is never shown to have planned for that to happen, let alone wished for it to. Same with the food going bad. Is Cozy aware of it? We just don’t know. Most importantly, Celestia and Luna raising the sun and moon, why would Cozy wish for them to stop moving? Her actions have many serious and even world-ending consequences but she is never shown once to want any of it. In fact, many of her actions go against it. Why would she rally allies in the school if the sun and moon would stop moving and end the world? Why would she try to become Empress of Friendship and befriend her way to becoming the most powerful in the world if her intention was to end it? It’s best summarized when Tirek asked her if draining all the magic was perhaps too excessive, and she responded with a casual “Eh, I think big.” The image Cozy gives off, even when she has no reason to lie about her intentions (to her allies), is not one of the world-ending villain a lot of people think she is. Therefore, I believe that she did not know of any of the world-ending consequences of her actions. The reason for her obliviousness I cannot give an answer beyond mere speculation. Tirek might’ve tricked her into doing it without telling her the true nature of what might result. Or the more likely option, since it’s implied she came up with the plan and only asked Tirek for assistance: she just simply did not truly know what she was getting herself into. Either way, on Cozy’s part at least, it seems ending the world was not the first thing that came to her mind. The crucial difference between Cozy and Starlight lies here. It is also doubtful that Starlight’s intent was to end the world with her time manipulation. But what sets them apart is their knowledge of the outcome. As far as we know, Cozy was oblivious to her plan’s outcome. Starlight was not only told what would happen, but shown it as well. A common excuse I see for this is that she thought Twilight was lying, or that she was too emotionally broken to care, but that is no justification for her intent. Because she continued on with them despite knowing what MIGHT happen. The significance isn’t that Starlight knew for sure whether or not the world would end but that, even though she thought Twilight was lying, she still should’ve been aware of the fact that if Twilight wasn’t lying, then her actions would cause the end of the world. The best way to summarize this is by saying the choice Starlight was given. She could take her revenge on Twilight, but she would be RISKING the world in doing so, or she could not go through with it, and not have to risk the world at all. Starlight made a gamble, choosing her revenge over the safety of the world, taking comfort in her belief that Twilight was lying to her. And therein lies why Cozy’s punishment was unfair. Starlight was only showing remorse AFTER realizing the consequences of her actions. And even then, she was literal inches away from going through with it anyway. Cozy was stopped before she could see her plan’s outcome, so in her mind, there was nothing wrong with what she was doing because no one had told or shown her otherwise. So if Starlight, who willingly almost risked the world to get revenge, could be redeemed because she wanted a friend, then surely Cozy, someone who most likely did not know the consequences of her actions, should receive similar treatment. It’s only fair. As for the stoning, I believe it was both unfair and undeserved because of an implication of its consequences I don’t think many have picked up upon. In season 8, Ocellus says that “Princess Celestia and Luna used a spell to trap Discord in stone sleep” and Spike says similarly, relaying that “she [Twilight] has to cast a stone sleep spell on Rockhoof.” The key phrase is: stone SLEEP spell. Is this full confirmation that the petrification spell renders its victims unconscious? Well, you could argue that Discord was still conscious while petrified, but he’s also Discord. He’s been shown to be aware of things he should not be (for example, knowing Spike and Big Mac wanted him to come back and play with them during Ogres and Oubliettes). Thus, if we take the literal meaning of this line, which is the only one that makes sense to me, we draw a scary conclusion. Petrification is inanimation and unconsciousness packaged in one. You cannot think, you cannot move, you are paralyzed in every sense of the word. So going off that implication, did Cozy, Chrysalis, and Tirek, really deserve this? Well, if we’re going by the season 10 comics, then they do break free, so at least it wasn’t permanent. But if we go by just the show itself, then the open-endedness of the ending has a horrifying meaning. On the one hand, while your theory that they were freed might be true, if they were not, then they would still be in there, incapacitated. Discord saying that they’ll be “Together forever” might hold a double meaning. It’s funny as a joke, not so much if he means they’ll be petrified forever. Because if so, Discord, Celestia, and Luna, effectively just handed Cozy, Chrysalis, and Tirek the death sentence. The three are now at the whim of others, unable to do anything to protect themselves, let alone take revenge. Of course, while I do believe in the goodness of Twilight and friends, it is still disturbing to see them LAUGHING at the statued villains even though we know that Twilight, Spike, Rockhoof, and Ocellus at minimum know that they will be paralyzed until further notice.
