      @@hugomartinezgalicia8084 I don’t think so and the difference would be negligible because there’s no heat or light reaching the inside of the case. Other temperature sensitive components like the CPU are concealed underneath a heatsink with thermal paste. I don’t see why anyone would paint the interior of their PC black unless you were making a clear side panel but I imagine the smell would be unappealing for at least a week

      @@justcallmestorm Not really, the built in screen is too low of a resolution and color accuracy for on the go use. The CPU and integrated graphics are too low-end for any meaningful performance on a high resolution external monitor

      @@justcallmestorm I just had one of these but with the Ryzen 5. It should be perfectly adequate with the 1080p display and it can push a high resolution external display just fine. I paid $110 with the Ryzen 5, wouldn’t pay any more than $85 with the Ryzen 3

    Ive read mixed reviews on its thermals. Whats the fan noise like and temperatures?

      @@DC224gb64 The fan noise isn’t offensive, it’s quiet but high pitched. Temps are on the higher end being as thin as something like this and the easiest way to bring fan noise and temperatures down is by disabling the Intel Turbo Boost in the BIOS. After doing that, it’ll run cool with very little fan noise

      @@ericking6996 Yes, you wouldn’t be able to play very many videogames so you could focus on your schoolwork. I bet I could get through college using a laptop from 2009. Yes, you can install Google Chrome on it

      @@KeshwoodsWirewire It’s never too late to learn about them! You’ve come across a really user friendly one and if anything ever needs to be worked on or upgraded it’s relatively easy! Newer laptops in this style usually have major components soldered to the board :)

      @@wezzy_fr it can run Roblox just fine, Fortnite won’t be able to run very well at all. I would recommend an HP Pavilion gaming laptop with dedicated graphics for around the same price. It won’t be as thin or light nor have as good build quality but it will have much better cooling and performance for what you’re after

      @@LeooSaGoh It doesn’t but a USB-C dock would do you wonders in adding even extra ports on top of Ethernet and you might as well have one if you’re going to be plugged in anyways

    One note about laptops using SATA 2.5 inch hard drives is that it's easy to get an SSD for 512 GB or 1 TB which will offer reasonable storage and faster speeds. As of August 2024, a 1 TB SSD is around $60. Just be sure to get a quality SSD like Samsung, PNY, and Crucial as the off-brand SSDs tend to have reliability issues often failing within a few months. These particular SSDs are also used on old PCs sold refurbished on Amazon which I can tell due to reviewers complaining of the SSD failing and the computer not booting.

      @@ScarletAmethyst Wow, didn’t realize 1TB SSDs got that cheap. As for refurbished drives, an easy way to tell the total usage on a drive is to plug it in with an adapter into a PC and run CrystalDiskInfo from online to see the total power on hours of the drive. Excellent comment!

      @@SevthaGoat1 It depends on the unit. Most would have come with a 500GB or 1TB hard drive that can be upgraded to any 2.5” SSD or 2.5”/3.5” hard drive

    I have issues with this laptop. I bought it yesterday 2nd hand > rubbery surfaces. It sticks to skin and feels disgusting > the screen cannot be fully opened. At most you can open it up to 100 degrees. The screen base touches against the floor. As a tall person, this is so not ergonomic

      @@jerricosagala2904 Return it if the rubber is sticky, it’s probably been left on a tabletop in the sun for years. You shouldn’t have that issue with any normal soft touch material for 8-12 years (or past the normal usability of the laptop). I remember the laptop opening a bit further than 100 degrees but it’s been a while since having this. There is a 2-in-1 model, albeit slightly more expensive. I believe the reason for the bottom of the display lifting the base off the ground is for cooling on a flat surface. Not too many places to put vents on such a thin machine! Appreciate your criticisms

      @@nabadis If yours is PC compatible, yes. If you want to play racing games, you’ll need a graphics card, and quite honestly a better PC purpose built for gaming

      @@nabadis No, most racing games on high graphics would need at least an 8th gen i5/i7 and a GTX 1050ti 4GB to run well and support newer games in the future.

      @@nabadis A good PC for less than $200 would be an HP Pavilion Gaming desktop with a Ryzen 2400G and AMD RX 580 graphics. I’ve seen them for as little as $130 with corrupted software and other little things you can easily fix. If you learn how to fix and upgrade your own machines you’ll save so much money! I’ll make a video one day about my repair and Windows setup processes!

      @@Trashplayzgames It can run Windows 11 with a workaround pretty well, but I would recommend getting an Optiplex 7070 or 7080 for not much more and you’ll be able to run it natively with a lot more security. As for using your HP all in one, you’ll need to ensure there’s an HDMI input in the back of the computer and that it’ll work as a standalone monitor

      @@Trashplayzgames Only if the label on the back of the all in one says “HDMI in”. It’s not a very common feature but it is possible. Look up on google if your particular model supports HDMI input

      @@leftraiser699 The Dell. Lenovos have historically faced more quality issues than Dells in the long run. I had a T14 gen 1 that the trackpad stopped working on and the only solution was a desolate software update. I quickly sold it and got another Dell

    Super easy to add ram and a SSD. OCLP allows users to upgrade to Monterey or Sonoma and Linux also works well.

    The headphone jack is also a digital output. You can get a 3.5mm to toslink cable to connect it to an external DAC or amplifier with a quality onboard DAC.

      @@alistermccallum I’ve always noticed audio output from MacBooks is significantly louder and clearer than most, if not all PCs I’ve ever used. That’s an awesome tidbit, thanks for sharing!

    I threw in a 2012 MacBook Pro logic board into a 2011 case with the network card upgraded to what's in the 2012 Macs. Thought the logic board was dead, nope, it was perfectly fine, and I really see how good these are. Not putting the 2011 logic board back into it's original case any time soon, macOS Sonoma runs well, and Windows 10 runs better than some of the Windows PCs being sold today, even Windows 11 ran really well, but the bootcamp driver stuff causing the Mac to blue screen made me go back to Windows 10.

      @@iPodee That’s awesome. The possibilities are endless with the metal supported integrated graphics. The blue screen in W11 must be due to the lack of TPM 2.0, no way around that but to install it directly but Sonoma is an awesome candidate for a future video! Thanks for the insight, you’ve probably saved a lot of people time

    I have a few of these 2012 MBP and love them. Still beautiful and super easy to upgrade. After upgrading them to 500GB SSD and put 16GB Ram, which cost about $60, they are great to put parallel and then older versions of Windows like 98, XP, and Windows 7 to be able to run older windows programs.

      That’s awesome! It’s nice how capable older programs are minus all the AI and internet connected blubber. Also nice is that the Ivy Bridge CPUs in these MacBooks are the last to support Windows XP natively which means you theoretically could install it as a standalone OS. I’m learning about more and more uses for these every day. :)

      I have newer MacBooks too but I know long after they fail I’ll have this one to fall back on. You should see the huge PowerPC community that’s still using their old iBooks and PowerMacs for upwards of 20 years!
