That was a question we asked ourselves at first too. Our friends invited us to come down and spend some time in the area and since it was along the path to AZ for the winter, why not? We found plenty to do and enjoy, let's share a little bit. Thanks for watching! How I Installed My 12v Fridge in my Travel Trailer
Просмотров 653Месяц назад
My 120v AC "residential" fridge gave up the smoke and wouldn't keep my food cold! I wasn't interested in going 12v, didn't feel like running propane lines because absorbtion fridges have their own host of problems. Its time for a 12v fridge in my RV to keep my food cold. An added bonus is that I can run this whole thing from solar and batteries to keep my food safe while boondocking in an offgr...

What to do in the desert? Quartzsite, AZ
:alien:
Very cool! I think it'd be neat to visit out there someday.
Its a neat little town!
Great video, as always. Thank you, Steve, that's my kind of town.
Hey Paddy!
Its good that everyone is in the UFO spirit. Haloween was a great time to post this video!
Thanks, it was fun visit.
The Lego museum looks cool.
I was pretty Impressed and I didn't think it would be that cool inside.
Great stuff ! I have made contacts to Roswell NM. Their is a campground near area 51 . Campers reported strange radio noise . may be from northern lights they saw or maybe ET ? This may explain what happened to some of my girlfriends relatives.
Gotta watch out for the relatives
Did you see Capt James Skywalker or Luke Kirk while you were there? Thanks for the video! 73
Both!
Was that a Sleestak?
Yes it was
There used to be a good BBQ restaurant in Roswell called The Snazzy Pig. Sadly, I think it closed.
I saw it. But we didn't stop. Might still be open?
Cool video !! And as Mulder would say "The Truth Is Out There " Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Thanks! The truth is hiding right in front of us for sure.
Now I’ll know to download some Slim Whitman tunes before visiting.
Good call!
My parents used to go out there all the time. I have never been. Thanks Steve
It was a really nice park. I like the desert more than I thought I would.
Hey Steve!
Hey Steve!
You never know what kind of place it really is til you roll in. I've used RV Parky app to check reviews. Do you still use HH? Have you checked the new one RVOvernights? Similar to HH, cheaper but not as many locations.
Nice vid Steve. Safe and happy trails to you both.
You too Ken!
We need to get to Palo Duro. We're just always speeding by there in January when we're trying to get somewhere warmer!
It was on our way to somewhere warmer, that's why we stopped!
Nice park for 26 and power. I paid more for less and never went back . Some have great showers and you get a chance to be clean ! I just talked to someone on CB at a Campground buy area 51 . So far no one missing . Some weird noise on CB band buy area 51. Maybe ET ?
Could be! I'll find out soon
Tried a chelada once with tajin rim on a dare... not a fan, but I don't like bloodys either!
I first heard about them about 20 years ago and thought the whole thing sounded gross... Now I dig 'em!
Sometimes the simple RV parks are the best.
Yeah, gives you a chance to catch up with life.
Always good to know about the small, but nice overnight spots.
I'm pretty surprised about how many of them there are.
To each their own but paying for presliced meat is definitely NOT worth it IMO lol. I mean its less work to buy store bought beef jerky too.
Not at today's beef prices! Its $7ish/lb for cheap meat or cheap sliced meat where I go... its a no-brainer to buy it sliced when its the same price. I do get un-sliced when the price is right. Do some math on store bought jerky - its about $30/lb and its full of stuff you shouldn't be eating.
@@livingforalivingRV im well aware that store bought jerky costs money. I was saying that because you said sliced meat was less work, and so is premade jerky. But hey if you live somewhere that sliced meat costs the same as non sliced meat that is a good call and also not like any place I have ever been in my entire life. They must not have to pay butchers. Everywhere I have ever been the more the meat is processed the more you pay. I typically make a batch of jerky when i break down bigger cuts of meat. even if I wasn't buying an entire chuck roll, buying stir fry meat is always still more expensive than buying a roast of the same cut and slicing it yourself.
@@carvedwood1953 I find that its regional. Just gotta watch the price per pound. Beef prices have gotten so high lately that I'm watching it like an eagle!
@@livingforalivingRV if you are really watching I would highly suggest buying an entire chuck roll from sams club or costco and breaking it down yourself. Lots of great cuts in there from steaks to roasts to great jerky meat. 6 dollars a pound. you can get other subprimal cuts at good prices as well and just cut them up how you will use them.
@@carvedwood1953 I used to raise cattle in a previous journey... Nothing beats getting primals and packing them up... but its hard to do in an RV. I'm looking into getting a dedicated 12v freezer now that I have some space in the new rig and we'll be getting after it. If you're getting a qtr/half/whole, don't forget the heart, trim off the fat and it makes excellent chili!
Grasshoppers are great if the are deep fried in chocolate. 73
I saw cricket candy today!
Plagues of locusts down in North Texas by the lake.
we're all gonna die!
Hmmm. My memory of Monte Christo is grilled, like grilled cheese, not deep fried. It's fine. Iron lungs are mostly history, but there were experiments during covid. And, Palo Duro Canyon is cool. I remember driving there over flatlands, then the bottom dropped out from the prairie.
This is the 3rd or 4th one I've had, always fried. This is also the last one I'll ever have. My tastes have matured quite a bit since the first. Palo Duro was pretty nice, stay tuned for some vid next week on it.
@@livingforalivingRV Sorry, I said grilled. Should have been griddle, with more than ample butter.
I had the Monte Cristo and it is GOOD ! Their is a restaurant in NY that has them . The northern lights have been seen in NY and been great ! M2MAK and K8MRD have some pic's of them. I love just laying on a blanket with my girlfriend watching them . I have a old ARMY phone like that but is green from WWII . still works . Takes some odd battery . 😀🤠🎃
Nothing beats laying out on a blanket and watching the sky go by.
Monte Cristo, where did you get it? The restaurant I had them at growing up in Michigan closed.
This was a place called Cheddars. I'm thinking it was a chain... didn't taste as good as it looked.
Some years ago, I was shocked to learn that there are people that collect different styles of barbed wire, aka The Devil's Rope.
I have a bunch left over from my home's previous owner. I would make it antenna but old rusty barb wire is nasty to handle.
@@LeeMcc_KI5YPR Definitely. It is essentially tetanus waiting to happen.
I didn't realize there were so many kinds of it.
Me
You!
Hey Steve when you get to Wichita Falls, hollar at me. De KD5INM.
We're already on the other side... OpSec and all that!
Great work Steve. Subscribed to this channel.
Sweet, thanks!
Playing a Suzuki promaster harmonica while watching your video. Awesome video. Beautiful scenery.
I tried to learn the harmonica, I think it sounds different "in my head" vs. "in my ear" and I couldn't ever get "that sound". I need to record it and then play it back and see what's up.
That was awesome ! I bet that old electric stove still works just fine ! Some great places you find as you travel ! Praying for our friends in Florida ! Many are in RV's as well.
If I was in an RV in Florida I'd be in Mississippi or Alabama right now! I don't mess with storms anymore. They always win.
I'm gonna be honest, that railpark is in Bowling Green, not Glasgow.
I appreciate the honesty.
Interesting effect noticed with audio switching from right to left hearing aid.
weird, I don't know why it would do that?
Just ordered mine! cant wait! Smoked Cornish Hens for the Holidays!
They work really well, I'm setting up for some Jerky right now.
Field Day Brewing. 😂 You got me on the mudflap. Half asleep when you said $400 worth of gasoline. Downloaded the app and went to the gas station. It don't work on gas, just diesel. I'll try the upside thing and see if that helps my 7mpg towing the camper.
7! Oof!! Upside works ok, but it only handles $50 worth of fill-ups at one fueling... so be aware of that as fuel prices are rising. I'm looking into Open Roading now. I'll let you know. With my old gas truck and 23' I was afraid to look at gas mileage.
Thanks for the update Steve, I'm so envious, lol. But at the same time really happy for a thoroughly decent bloke. Enjoy the Autumn (Fall?) 😂🤣😂
Thanks for watching! I am starting to say "Its not the pursuit of happiness, but the happiness of pursuit."
$392 fill up, ouch. That's trip is 20+ Baofengs.
Sure is! That's about 1000 miles though. The truck does "not so bad" without the trailer and then "better than a gasser" with the trailer - which is to say fuel mileage sucks.
You must be getting good at reversing that trailer! Look forward to the next part of the journey
It's actually easier to back up then the small trailer... I can't imagine I'm that much better ...
I didn't know you recorded me pulling in at Coralville. That was a fun afternoon. I think that campground in Emporia is where we used to stay on our yearly trek to Mesa.
I wanted to get some more footage of us hanging out, but got distracted with all the good conversation and those Tenderloin sammies!
Some nice campgrounds . I found some $20 night ones with nice bathhouse with HOT showers and few people, Off season can be nice. Few kids . The last camp ground we stayed at was $25 night. OK bathhouse but showers was on the cold side. The ladies side was better so at midnight we used them that was only 3 campers in the hole cite . We spent more money at places that had broken showers or only one working side and place was busy ! we never came back to that campground!
There are some "interesting" campgrounds out there for sure.
Just get starlink mini. Done
Starlink mini doesn't provide as much bandwidth - and why throw away a faster dish that you've already paid for?
That bee looked like a yellow jacket
it was harmless... unless you were a kid and wanted to poke the nest for fun.
@@livingforalivingRV In California, they were called meat bees. They are attracted to meat, not flowers, so especially bad for campgrounds.
I can agree with eating meat over flowers... just not when I'm the meat getting eaten!
Your timing is good. 102F in Southern NV today, but dipping below 100 next week. October is the best month in the Mohave/Sonoran.
I'll be there soon!
Did you get to try Braum's in Emporia? Great ice cream! 73
I've seen a few of them, seems like a southern OK chain. Never got a chance to stop there.
Bees or wasps? looks like the wasp nest we have around here. mean dudes!
I looked them up... and promptly forgot when they were harmless. Interesting to see a HUGE nest like that right out my window. The neighbors complained, the nest was gone and then the neighbors were gone.
Hope AZ cools off in October
Me too!
Unfortunately, a lot of National Park campgrounds are also quite small by today's standards. Most were built when most people didn't have 34ft+ trailers.
Agreed. I see the average 5th wheel starts around 33ft. They keep making housing hard to afford, more people will opt-out of housing.
I like the curtain rod. Been thinking of changing mine. 👍
I was surprised it was a perfect fit! (maybe a little snug)
Come to Ohio. You can park in my driveway for a few days if you want. 72° F and rainy. Comfortable. 🙂
Hey Michael, I'll keep you in mind if we're in Ohio area. Did you get your RV yet?
