bucking transformer build
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.3 года назад
Here is the bucking transformer I built to power my tube audio gear. At times my line voltage can be as high as 124 volts. Blowing rectifier tubes and red plating power tubes. This is a way of reducing the line voltage to a range that is safe. The top receptacle gives about a 5% reduction and the bottom receptacle gives about a 10% reduction.
Oscilloscope Fun. Playing with the Rigol 1054Z Digital Oscilloscope
Просмотров 2103 года назад
Ever wonder what music looks like on an oscilloscope? This is my Rigol 1054Z digital oscilloscope. Channel 1 connected to the right channel and channel 2 connected to the left of a stereo amplifier. Across the top you see the left as the yellow trace and the right as the blue trace. This represents time vs voltage. The square is interesting. I's called a lissajous pattern. X/Y mode on the scope...

Fender Champ 5F1 Amplifier Build From Scratch
Просмотров 6 тыс.5 лет назад
Now for something completely different. This is from Mr. C's bench. A Fender "Champ" 5F1 amplifier built from scratch. This is my first foray into working with Tubes. It was a lot of fun to build. Hope you enjoy my little montage of the project.

    What if the wood sides incorporated handles ? Like a serving tray but a serving of tone ?

    What is the purpose of this video, there is no instructions on how to properly wire the transformer to the receptacles and switch, kind of useless for anyone wanting to build one. Someone who knows how isn’t going to be watching this.

    Will the VM740ML be a significant step up to my Ortofon 2m Silver? What do you think?

      I can't tell you, I've never heard a 2M Silver, It was an improvement over my 20 year old AT120E. And it depends on your turntable, tonearm, etc. I really love the microliner stylus. Can't say enough about it.

    It's considered good manners to give appropriate credit if you are borrowing material for a video. The slides are from BlueGlow Electronics.

    This is great. Would love to do something like this. Do you have a resource for detailed instructions?

    Nice build. Would’ve been nice to have a quick demo with a few chords at the end! A lot of build demos don’t show the finished item in use.

    Really nice build… I like the aluminum panels… Maybe would have liked to see it in a head or cabinet completed.. Also a little demo would have been nice, but a champ is a champ is a champ… I built something similar a few yrs ago, only with 1950 transformers, and a 6SL7 instead of the 12ax7.. also I found the industrial 6087 rectifier instead of 5y3 a little nicer due to it’s indirectly heated cathode (like a GZ34). For some reason people haven’t picked up on these… You can still purchase NOS examples from the 60’s for less than say a similar vintage 5y3.. Nice build though

    Did it sound clean when you first fired it up? Ty

    • @mr.csgarage9409
      @mr.csgarage9409 2 года назад

      I wouldn't call it clean. It definitely has that Fender high gain crunch/distortion. Its a fun amp. I set it up with a Ted Weber 8" alnico speaker.

    Would you have a step-by-step video on building this amplifier? Thanks!

    • @mr.csgarage9409
      @mr.csgarage9409 3 года назад

      Sorry for the delay, I hadn't looked at my channel in a long time. I do not have have a step-by-step. But this amp is probably the simplest and most common to build. Kits are available from a number of suppliers and it's a simple scratch build. A search will find a lot of videos on the 5F1.

    Looks like you used a chainsaw to cut that preamp tube socket hole.....

    • @mr.csgarage9409
      @mr.csgarage9409 3 года назад

      There was a learning curve. The bit caught the metal and tore it out. I don't have hole punches. I learned if you clamp the metal between a couple pieces of plywood It'll drill through cleanly.

    I owned a 79 B for 14 years When i first got the car i kept thinking i was having. Clutch issues and pulled the motor tranny so often i got it to i could pull the unit replace the clutch and install everything in 3 and a half hours by myself Although my actual issues turned out to not be the clutch it was actually my overdrive unit slipping so i replaced the tranny with a used. Straight one without the overdrive unit and everything was ok because the overdrive wasnt working correctly the change didnt affect my gas mileage at all years later my sister-in-law. Dated a guy that taught auto shop and was a know it all When discussing MGs in general he argued with me. That it isn’t necessary to pull the engine out of the car to get the tranny out i looked at my wife and rolled my eyes as ive owned a TD, TF, the B , a Austin Healey Sprite (re badged Midget) in my life. I do not. Claim to know everything about British automobiles. But i have done my fair share of turning wrenches on them and i tried to do as much reading and talking about them with. Experts whenever the oppurtunity came up and the only way. I could see it happening the way. The teacher said it can be done is by removing a cross member that is part of the cars structual integrity and would compromise the overall safety of the car IMO BTW at that time. I did not have a overhead crane. And my access to under the car was putting it on ramps i used a homemade Cherry Picker that. Utilized a chain hoist similar to the one in the video and all my work was being done outside in the South Florida heat and sun as that was. What. I had available to. Do that type of work the TD and TF. Had a garage could perform the work on those two as well as the Sprite ! My ultimate goal. Is to have a similar enviorment. Like your shop. For my future needs as. Another hobby of mine is boating and traditionally. I have to hire a crane to help. Lift engines. On those which is pretty expensive of course and you are at the risk of MotherNature ruining the day at your expense. If the operator calls the day. Off because of wind or weather you still pay regardless id the job is complete or not which can suck. If you. Run. Into some. Setback and get cancelled

    What are you adjusting there?

    • @mr.csgarage9409
      @mr.csgarage9409 5 лет назад

      A couple of things. I kept having to adjust my pants. The other thing is the Oberg Tilt Lift sling. It allows you to adjust the tilt or angle of the engine.
