The Bullywug fight just seems too fun to ignore, so even if my party chooses to travel by boat, I'll have the Bullywugs ambush them and climb on to the ship

My players successfully snuck their way on to the Sea Ghost by hiding in the crates and barrels being brought on to the ship... gave them a surprise round and things looked good... then I rolled five nat 20's during the battle and we had our first ever TPK 🤣

The series of trials is so perfect! Was trying to work on something similar but not quite getting there and this is the perfect structure.

Not to be poo pooing this but how can a mine exist in a wet lands marsh and that near the sea? Wouldn't the the general water table be a major hindrance to such activities? And how did they discover the ore in the first place? I dig a hole 6 foot deep* fills with water* In Waterdeep( as example)? No. I just thought this off the top of my head. I like the idea but really stretches the suspension of disbelief a bit too much. Instead, how bout a salt gathering operation instead or sugar cane farming for rum distillation. 2 cents..Other than that, nice way you added pics and music.

Excellent video! Played the original version in 1985 or '86. I'm very excited to run my group through this. I'm using Shadowdark RPG instead of 5e, but that won't make any difference. I'm hoping it turns into a long-term campaign. 😊

How I deal with the battle map trick is I give art of the area instead. I use the battle map behind the scenes.

I decided to change the plot hook to be that the ship was a fishing vessel owned by the Solmor family and Anders' parents were onboard when it was supposedly attacked by the Sea Princes and "sunk" but Anders has heard rumors that the ship has been spotted as a derelict. He wants the party to check it out but wants them to keep it a secret because Skerrin thinks he shouldn't get his hopes up over some rumors fom drunken sailors. One it made the quest fit more with the story, and two it created a greater drive in my player's to want to take on the quest since it was from an npc they knew and trusted.

Running the Sea Ghost section of this module this morning. The players have successfully outed Ned as a double-crosser. (Though he managed to hide his true allegiance.) Oh how I love the delight of steering a derailed train! No sarcasm there; I genuinely love the moving puzzle that is improv plot twists! It's one of the reasons I like to DM.

Thanks a bunch for this entire video series. I started this campaign recently (converting to a GURPS playgroup no less), and it's been a huge help in my own prep. Your suggestions for improvements to various plot holes or quests are very welcome.

Is that the actual map of Saltmarsh? It has about 50 houses plus the various keyed locations. Must be awfully cramped in those buildings for the guard/militia alone, let alone all the miners, dock workers, etc.

What I do for Sauriv is make it a player memory test. Nothing crazy like "what year was the 3rd kingdom founded", more, "What is the queen's name?" and "What is the name of our god?". Something for the diligent note-takers.

My problem with this adventure is that I feel like the scouting just isn't needed and it very much depends on party composition. I feel like the scouting part, unless everyone has access to invisibility or disguise self, is just the same as the party being a strike force for the big attack (go in, kill people in this room, try not to alert everyone). Also for some reason the council only gives the party invisibility potions and gaseous form potions for the attack? These things would have been incredibly useful for the previous scouting mission and allow all party members to be useful (rather than just the more stealthy characters). Great idea to mix it up and have an assassination instead!

I am using Ghost of Saltmarsh to help me fill in major location / plots in my tropical homebrew. I need a lair and lizard people to fight. I was thinking Dunwater but now that I see this is just Dunwater but with Shaungan, I think i'll run this chapter and add Thousand Teeth as a beast. (PCs are level 7-8). So they can do some fighting and less politics. What do you think of this?
