FSI Tutorial Flow Past Flap
This tutorial shows how to perform a fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis in FEBio, for the case of flow past a flap. The flap deformation under the action of a prescribed pulsatile fluid pressure produces large deformations in the fluid-FSI mesh, which is regularized by assigning a mapped elastic modulus to the mesh. This mapping decreases the elastic modulus from the vicinity of the flap to the edge of the fluid domain, thus minimizing excessive mesh distortion in the flap vicinity.

Squeezing a Fluid Domain Shut
Просмотров 4298 месяцев назад
There are some applications of fluid-structure interactions (FSI) where one may wish to have solid walls come together within a fluid domain, up until the point that fluid is no longer able to flow between them. This may be thought of a case of squeezing a fluid domain shut with solid walls. Normally, a finite element FSI domain that allows fluid flow cannot be completely squeezed shut, as this...

Webinar on Biphasic Materials, Part 2: fibrous materials and biphasic contact
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.2 года назад
This second webinar on biphasic theory presents methods to model a fiber-reinforced solid matrix, as well as sliding contact in biphasic materials, for modeling biological tissues using porous media mechanics in FEBio. It describes the influence of fiber-reinforcement on interstitial fluid pressurization (IFP), and the role of IFP on the frictional response during sliding contact of biphasic ma...

This webinar was recorded on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. This webinar presents an introduction to biphasic materials for modeling porous media mechanics in FEBio. This first webinar on biphasic theory focuses on its description of tissues as mixtures of a deformable porous-permeable solid matrix and an interstitial fluid. An overview is given of representative responses of biphasic materials to lo...

Can we use this software to achieve the digital bionic bone drill in orthopedic surgery? For example, similar physical interaction attributes are set to obtain the drilling force model. Similar to the finite element simulation software ABAQUS.

Hello Steve, I am Stefan Mucenica, a PhD student in Biomechanics who has just started learning how to use FEBio. I have two questions regarding the import process: (1) let's say that I have the femur like in your case, but I don't have the specific coordinates to put it in the right position with respect to the other assembly parts. Is there another way to do that, for example but setting a constraint just for positioning it correctly, similarly to what it can be done in some commercial CAD/CAE softwares? (2) on the other side, let's say that I have a biomechanical system (e.g. bone and tooth) and I have the stl meshes of both. Is there a way to pre-process them so when I import them in FEBio to have them directly in the right position (in this case, the tooth in its alveolar socket)? For example, this is the case with some stl files I found in some online medical datasets: I import the tooth first, then the bone, and they are correctly positioned from the start. What is the operation to do before importing in order to achieve that? Thanks in advance!
