Hi, I'm Avery, and I fly things. Drones, RC planes, Paramotors, Balloons and more. I am the creator of the Open Gauge, an open-source instrument for ultralight pilots. USPPA rated foot launch instructor, and USHPA rated paraglider pilot. I intend to post everything I do that is flying related. Uploads will be sporadic. Join me for the ride!

The 70mm habu was always pretty boring. 4 channels, no extras, and pretty slow. It did shine at low speed, though- the wing loading is super light. So I thought: "wouldn't this be cool as a thrust-vectoring, 3D-ish jet?" Of course if I'm going through the trouble of upgrading the maneuverability, I might as well make it look better with retracts... and while I'm at it I might as well add flaps,...

I'm 4 flights in now, 2 with wheels and 2 without- the big takeaways are: high power and low airspeed will pitch up hard. Fly it fast, fly it scale, and use SAFE if you're hand launching! Yes, really! Support your local hobby store!

This is a sharp looking plane. It's a bit smaller and a bit more expensive than the banana hobby offering but looks to have way better scale details. Can't wait to fly it!

The thrust vectoring is cool. Surprising anyone would put that much work into a Habu STS. I barely even like my Habu SS.
Yeah, it was one of those situations where I already had the plane, so I might as well. I still don't like the lines of the Habu overall.

This video was flight 2, I put 4 more flights in today and really stretched it's legs. It's amazing how many dumb things you can do with TVC!
Nice review! Do you know if I could fly this umx off of a Spektrum dxs transmitter? I’ve been flying rc for a long time but have only ever had a couple rtf planes. Would love to get one of these umx jets and use it with a spare dxs until I can get a better transmitter. Thanks
Yeah, I think it should, all the mixing and the fancy stuff other than throttle speed is done in the receiver / flight controller.

I used you speed (6) adjustment for my UMX A-10 to try out
Let me know how it goes! I think delaying the speed on Jets makes for a much more realistic sound at least, but the A10 and the 262 will both probably benefit from it with their lines of thrust so far from their CGs

I fly most anything as well (drones, weight shift trikes, free flight hang gliders, free flight paragliders, gyros, airplanes, and most of the fighter jets the US military use (in their simulators only :-) ) I have been a member of USHPA for almost 50 years. Being on the ground is boring...
Very cool to see my trike from above! The fly in was wet, but still lots of fun! Most of the time I was flying at trim speed but I will speed up some for a hard turn. Nice to meet you.

Engine running a bit lean Avery? maybe idles just a bit high
At this altitude it would be a bit rich. And high idle doesn't bother me, I'd rather have it idle too high than too low.

I did, and I think about that every time. I actually had my wingtip camera pop off twice during the event so it's part of that check too. Lots of flying this week was done with just bar though, the F3 has the juice to catch up to most without trims.

@@AveryFlies It's the best part about the wing. If things get sketchy, drop the bar and you're free to check the wing with the brakes at that moment.

Great video. I have a question about your setup. If I have the ICOM bluetooth capable transceiver, that will connect to the Sena device via bluetooth as it is -- is that correct? The reason I ask is that the SR10 is out of stock and Sena says there may not be any more available. So with the SMH-10 I can connect my phone OR the ICOM, but not both -- Correct?
The scena headset connects to two Bluetooth devices. The phone device gets priority and microphone input, so pair the icom radio directly to the Sena as a phone. Then you can pair your phone as a second device, it will not have microphone input but you can still hear music and alerts from it

How do you rate the Apco F5 to the Ozone Spyder 3 ? I am about to buy a F5.
Very similar. I think the F5 inflates a little nicer. The Spyder has less confusing risers though.
Any chance you can do a video on how to set up the Bluetooth on both a phone and the radio?
That's different between headsets and radios. I have the icom radio connected to my headset as a phone, and my phone connected to the headset as a device. The device doesn't get microphone access but it does let the icom radio have priority.
@@AveryFlies I got em both to work. Both the icom and the phone connect to the Sena 10 and work perfectly.

Very similar, though the top speed of the F5 is better and I think it inflates a little easier
So it is a bit faster and easier to launch than the Spyder? Does it track more straight for xc flights than the Spyder? How does it handle turbulence compared to the Spyder?
@@dgree33 I think they inflate the same, they handle bumps about the same. The f5 is faster, and 2d already tied in with the standard risers
Did you mount that to the harness? I just got one, and am having a hard time trying to mount it so the swing arms don't get in the way, but I don't want to mount it on the harness because my reserve straps go through the harness.
If you got the U float, it goes to the frame. The dual float goes on the shoulder straps of the harnrss
