1964 & Earlier Pontiac Rocker Oiling Solution
In this video, I’m working on priming the oil system on the rebuilt 389 for my 1963 Pontiac Bonneville. The 64 and earlier Pontiac V8 engines oil the rockers through holes in the rocker studs. Over time, the oil passages to the rocker studs get clogged to the point that even hot tanking them won’t clear the passages out. A solution to that is to use 65 and later Pontiac hollow pushrods and rocker arms with oiling holes. I used rockers and pushrods from a locked up 66 389 I had in storage. The engine took very little effort to prime once I swapped the parts, and oil pressure on the gauge didn’t drop from where it was with the original rockers (over 60 PSI). The rocker nut torque is 20-25 f...

At first, I was thinking the oil galley plug in the back of the motor wasn't installed. There is a hidden plug behind the one next to the cam shaft.
Thanks

Dude this is SOOOOO helpful. Thank you brother
Very nice. $35,000?
@@calvincosby921 fair offer but it’s not for sale sorry
I would love to see how well you can do using both hands! Great video, I’m trying to put mine back together and this will help!
Beauty, helps. Thanks bud
Thanks I was wondering where the clip went. ❤
My dad had a 1965 Cadalina 4 door. Beautiful car, same colors as the 2 door '63 you had shown. Then some moron hit him in the rear and bent the frame, trashed his car. If I won the lottery I would buy him another one and have it fixed up nice for him.
My Dad has a 64 in his garage that he started working on about 10yrs ago but age caught up to him and crippled his hands. I'm living across the country and am not there to help, could be a really nice car but only collecting dust now.
I want to see that first one in particular restored to its full glory. They're all worthy but that one in particular is a standout.
Lucky pick of your own them all
Love those Pontiacs!! I had 4 Pontiacs in my lifetime. Loved every one of them but my '68 Catalina was my favorite. Yeah it had that see through steering wheel too. Beautiful car wish I had it now.
That will be your Kettle Hill
Thanks buddy....great video. Need to pull my gauges on my '75 T/A to replace some of the lights. Woof........look at those floors! Flintstone brakes for sure. Glad I live in Colorado.
Laughed my ass off. Not at you just looks a lot like my 78. 😊
What winch is that??
It’s a Badland ZXR 12000
Wish I saw this video when i was stuck last weekend. At least I know now. I'm not even gunna replace the relay lol
Ooooh. Pontiac 6X heads.
Good eye! It’s a 77 400 that was put in a 66 2+2. The car is getting a 421 installed again soon
@@fastjeffy I had a 66 Jeep Gladiator with a 71 400. Always breaking stuff.
It’s one of those things where if you’ve never done it before you would never know, same energy as my grandpa looking at an engine, turning it over one time and then messing with one specific thing and then the engine starts. Apparently he looked at an engine one time and hit it with a hammer and it started right up, and only an old timer or someone they taught would even think of that
I was taught by those kind of guys. The skills and tricks they have are nothing short of magical lol
Simple yet very effective. The essence of a true tradesman..
I thought about trying the propane torch method but didn’t want to go out in a blaze of glory
Indeed
Great video, great job taken that dash out with 1 hand ,and holding the camera with the other 1 lol Your car looks about the same shape as the 1 I'm working on
I GOT THE SAME VALVE COVERS. BUT ONE SIDE EMBLEM CAME OFF PRETTY QUICK
Thanks for posting. I'm trying to remove the dash from my 73 firebird.
Doing a complete resto on my 79 T/A. These were very helpful - thanks!
You missed one black wire on the back of the speedo towards the bottom. I cant figure out how to disconnect.
Ground to the dash brace?
Nice video. I have a 81 trans am 4spd car i started to restore 3 yrs ago. I stripped the car and found out i had to do the body bushings so it turned into a full resto lol I repainted the firewall all underneath and up inside the trunk, and inside floors and rear seat back wall. Grinded out the frame and painted all new suspension and bushings front to rear with a 2 inch drop in the front. I havent touched the car in 2yrs now and it's time to try to button her up. Thankfully I never took the dash, but I think I'm going to put the interior back in this week, some of it came to me in boxes. I was a little nervous I wouldn't get the order correct when trying to screw it all back together. Thanks for the video.
Thanks. I have a '79 and find this helpful. 👍
THANKS I have the 78 Olds 403 I found it was in a barn in south for 34 YEARS! Best motor man around built it! NEVER LOST LONG DISTANCE 308 REAREND GEARING? left in drive 55-60 first gear 110-120 2nd gear SPEEDOMETER ONLY WENT UP TO 160! IT WOULD FLOAT 3 LANES ON 95 AT THAT SPEED YOUR FOOT STARTS TO SHAKE!!! BOY I MISS HER!
The front hoses are totally wrong and the check valve is missing
You have a 76 throttle body, and a non-Pontiac 78+ main body, with a correct Pontiac air horn. There’s no way to route these vacuum lines correctly.
Look in the service manual under emission's, and then then CA or federal, , 4 barrel,, if you want it all stock. The chances of it not been tamped with is rare. But you doing it right, you can't have too many pictures.
