Stormwater Control for City of Roswell requires water retention/detention prior to drainage into the stormwater system. As an alternative, you can install pervious concrete to allow rainwater to penetrate the concrete slab and filter through the gravel system below. Saves time, space and money. Hope that helps. @mrbron09 not trying to hijack someone else's post but...I'm a concrete/masonry contractor and held a porous pave& pervious concrete certification in WA. Ive been in MN the last 15 years hence the "held" If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me and I'll walk you through the process..keep in mind every county/city/township and state can very and ESPECIALLY when putting together a proposal for the city that has anything to do with pervious concrete you can definitely make things a lot harder on your self by using the wrong words or even having the guy in environmental misinterpret what you're trying to convey. No, I'm not going to ask you for money, no I don't want your first born child, or your social security number. I just can't emphasize enough how when dealing with pervious concrete and the city can cost you potentially THOUSANDS of dollars before you even pour IF they grant you the permit. You're talking soil tests, water retention and mitigation, etc etc. Just thought I'd offer a helping hand with some knowledge from 20+ years experience.

Great question, John. I got on it last month with one of the grandchildren. It remains very stable. We inspect the connections periodically. The plates, bolts and concrete foundations all look great. +/-9’ clear span. Swing chains are +/-18” apart. That leaves +/-6’ remaining. Keep the distance between swings and posts equidistant. Hope that clarifies. Good luck with your build.

Great question Jason. Check with your local concrete supplier. The cost should be about the same as a typical 3000# mix concrete. The aggregate size is just smaller.

We used pressure treated lumber on our fence, then painted it with white, semi-gloss, exterior house paint (from Walmart with 25 yr guarantee, I think), & it's gorgeous... the 1st fence lasted 20+ yrs before some posts needed replaced (the fence existed b4 we moved in~ we only painted it), but that paint wasn't peeling, faded, or anything, & it was still going strong. Last yr we replaced & repaired the fence & started repainting it b4 an early winter thwarted our plans, but the paint once again was adhering to the treated posts, soaking in just fine, & looking amazing... IDK why more people don't paint those things bc they turn out amazing! I'll make one side note, we don't use sprayers, but rather always use rollers & brushes to paint, as it delivers more paint & gets into all the little holes (looks like staple marks) on those posts, & we're pretty meticulous about coverage. We also use 3 coats, so we do it right the 1st time & don't have to repaint every few yrs. The 1st coat is put on extremely heavy, & we paid close attention to temps & humidity for good adhesion. But remember that 1st fence was an existing fence, several yrs old, when we moved in, so if you didn't paint in the 1st few yrs, you still can... just use an exterior, semi-gloss house paint & you'll be golden. We used the color palace, Walmart brand, which we found out last yr is actually made by Sherwin Williams. Hope this helps you or someone else... good luck.

@@Delmanmel thanks! Yea I needed a 4lb dead blow to get them in 1/2 hole. The treated lumber seems to make it a tight fit also. I just got a 16 inch diameter form for the concrete. I think that should work

This worked perfect BTW. 5/8 inch. I used a block of wood on the drill press to make a perfectly perpendicular guide. Came out beautiful. Thanks sooooo much for the video. I went down 40 inches for the holes. Five 80lb concrete bags on each side.

Oh. And I sprayed the wood that was going to be in concrete with that waterproofing from gorilla glue. Just for added water resistance.

As I thought about this I was thinking about how 1. The swing is attached at the bottom of the top beam. 2. The swing at most will be an angle of say 50-60 degrees maybe 3. The t braces are 6 bolts all the way through and on both sides so there is support of opposite push/pull on these. Would love to see a statics model of these to see how my intuitions fit reality.

Great question Crimson Decade. We used 12' posts, anchored 36" in the ground. Typical ground hole with post uses 3 ea.-60 pound bags of concrete mix. Good luck with your bench swing.

@@Delmanmel have you noticed any movement since you have installed it or while they are swinging ? I would have expected about 10 bags per post based upon your depth and an 18" hole for that post size.

Great question Mc Kenley Gatchion. The pervious mix allows for cracking and allows water to penetrate the surface of the finished product. Yes, you can install rebar. However, the penetrating rainwater will rust the steel over time.

@@Delmanmel Oh okay, as of now is there any research or improvements in pervious concrete that helps in future to make this concrete will be use in highways?

@@mckenleygatchion3199 Yes. However, the current design is too brittle and cannot survive the wear and tear of heavy traffic.

Also, the County or City stormwater engineer can assist with specific drainage requirements for runoff. If properly installed, pervious concrete can be applied in cold climates. Good luck!
