I had same thought like you, but at the same time I was confused why Rei would call Aya by her first name for the very first time they met- if he really didn't like her. But in the manga's sequel, it turned out that he loved her. He said Aya's love for him was never be unrequited love. Rei is a cold man, but his attitude toward Aya in this sequel is so much showing that he is a romantic guy.

Ya know, when I first watched this series and found out that Mayu and Yamato were dating, I was a little weirded out honestly. I mean they have a 9 year age gap and she's still in high school. That's pretty awkward relatively speaking. But as I continued the series, I genuinely love this couple. At least I know that Yamato is incredibly decent and is a cop so he knows not to cross too many lines. ^^
