Okay so a bit of insight into So Beautiful. In this mv Ian introduces us to his experiences with DID, particularly with his switch with Mito and his experiences with bipolar lows. I've only started listening to DPR Ian and DPR in general and becoming a Dreamer since July of this year. As I've learnt when Ian introduced this mv, he wasn't open about his DID as yet so before that was revealed, he only made the association that So Beautiful was just relating to his bipolar disorder. Mito is in black and white with the one white eye and the eyeball ring. However when watching a particular interview, he revealed that So Beautiful was more about his DID than bipolar and it was a hard thing to talk about and he always doubted whether it was the right decision to make. Also a disclaimer - when I started watching his works - I started with the discography in full and then watched the interviews. My first video was Don't Go Insane, followed by So Beautiful. DGI made me think of DID at that time and So Beautiful made me think of DID too. Mainly because the character that I saw in the black and white scenes in So Beautiful seemed like a completely different person. So then after watching a certain interview and others I learnt that he actually has DID along with his bipolar. In that interview discussed it because the person is actually a Dreamer and she was aware of when he had revealed that information. Plus, just like myself, when she had first reacted to his mvs, she also had a good intuition about the DID but was still careful about talking about it because she knew he hadn't revealed that stuff back then. And of course, we want to be careful of assuming things about people. Ian had revealed that during the filming of So Beautiful he intended for Mito to front at certain moments. However during a time when he had asked when they should start filming, he was told that they did 3 takes of it. He had switched with Mito and Mito already did his part. He didn't believe it at first so they had to show him through the monitors. Now on to explaining the mv for a bit. Monochrome, rain, thunder, lightness, darkness all give a very bleak and dreary atmosphere that can represent bipolar lows. Weather like that can influence Ian's moods as well. To recap whenever Ian dips into his lows, at a certain point, due to certain feelings or emotions, Mito would switch with him. In this mv, we see Ian coming out of a body of water (we don't see what it is exactly) but it's like he almost drowned and then he feels like something taking over him. It looks like a werewolf transformation which is supposed to represent him switching with Mito but it's all the pain and confusion that goes along with it. Now this is a dramatization as irl switching can be covert or unnoticeable or very uncomfortable for the person or it can be a range within those two extremes. Wolves are also a part of the DPR Ian lore. Within the mv you'll see him striking a match which is a way to indicate that a switch is happening. Covering his face with his hands and removing them after is a way to represent dissociation and switching. So Ian wakes up outside in certain locations that either he's maybe familiar with or maybe not. They could actually be scenes he's in, physically or being within a dream. In one scene in particular he's in a dream. This is at around 4.37 where when you look at his hands, his tattoo placements are on opposite hands. Burn is supposed to be on his left hand while the other pattern is on his right. It shows that way in his IG vids too because somehow those vids are mirrored too. However here it's supposed to show that he's still in the subconscious stuck in that particular memory in the forest. In the mv you'll notice a woman. Her name is CL (Lee Chaerin), leader of 2NE1 and also a soloist. She and Ian are very good friends. He played the love interest in her mv 5 stars and that mv is related to this one as a backstory to it. Because of something that happened within the storyline, we see her character pushing Ian back into the water which represents his subconscious. So if we think for a moment, that scene of her pushing him in the water and then the one in the beginning are both directly related.

I know it was explained that Ian has bipolar and DID. And also that you noted that in the 'So I Danced' mv there's a shift like he has two sides. This is in relation to his DID. Well so far there's 3 - Ian, Mito and Insanity. But in 'So I Danced' there are two main music styles - one is for Insanity and the other is for Mito. I'm watching so many reactions so I may need to double check to see if I missed any from yours. But just to explain Dear Insanity for a bit. You see Ian in these colourful outfits. Most people would think that is Mr. Insanity. He's not. Not yet anyways. Dear Insanity is about the journey Ian takes to The Other Side through lucid dreaming. Throughout that journey he disguises himself and as he dreams more, goes deeper into his mind and other things happen, that leads him to becoming Mr. Insanity. So for now like in So I Danced, Don't Go Insane, he is more Insanity-coded. Limbo was actually the start of him on his beginnings of being influenced by that side of him. Irl it's not just Ian who has 100% control over the musical influence. Ian is very much rock/metal. Mito goes for orchestral violin sounds, Insanity for edm types, however there are more genres to influence them. Like in S.I.D you noticed the shift - it goes from an Insanity-coded style to Mito's. So just to briefly touch on Peanut Butter and Tears. In his lucid dreams, doors represent the gateway to memories. As Ian had explained it Peanut Butter and Tears relate to childhood memories and nostalgia while Tears is about adolescence. In the dream, it feels very Insanity-like which begs the question - is he remembering things as they actually are or is there some sort of filter over it? Irl he talks about getting overstimulated so let's say lots of excitement can bring about a manic state. My other thought is - is the 'filter' the result of being a bit overstimulated by excitement within those memories because we see how unusual the music video is. For me also I see references to a past music video as well. We see a lot of Insanity colours in the mv - purple, yellow and green. But also there's hybrid influence as well with hints of RGB. In one scene where he's in a field of pink flowers, there is a blue flower right in the corner. That's the hybrid influence sneaking in. Mito is present in the mv. As Mito is the guardian of The Other Side he is that dark figure cloaked figure that's levitating high up. Mito usually cautions Ian against opening too many doors. This time he lets Ian open that particular door and experience things until at the end, Mito decides that's enough and wakes Ian up. The reason being is that I believe it's to protect him from going too deep into things.

Scaredy Cat is linked to the previous mvs So Beautiful and No Blueberries, well more like SB -> NB -> SC (as in list I had given). So in the mv you'll get a bit of connections to the past mvs and others that are after it. Sometimes you might watch an mv and be like "I've seen this before." Black and white represents Mito, although sometimes he is in colour. In this mv, Mito was supposed to front but I'm not sure if he fronted at all or less than Ian wanted him to but Ian played Mito's role. Mito's colours are red, black and white. Ian, irl, describes Mito a kind of a diva and I think a bit emo too. Now Scaredy cat is a character (storyline wise) that lives inside Mito. My personal theory and I could be way off is that Scaredy Cat is what is known in D.I.D terminology as a fragment. So alters are those identities that are fully formed with memories, likes, dislikes, their own personalities etc. Fragments are not fully developed as alters and may be focused on a certain role or emotion. SC is a fragment to me because his role is focused on fear. And why does that relate to Ian or Mito for example. When Ian goes into his lows and Mito fronts, it’s natural that Mito will feel the effects of that low. And one of the effects of a depressive low could be fear, which is what SC represents. There is something else too. We see Scaredy cat restrained by a straitjacket. Those would imply being in a mental institution. Straitjackets can sometimes correlate to insanity. Which makes me also think that SC is a fragmented form of Mr. Insanity that hasn’t quite fully developed into an alter. Just to note, sometimes alters form as alters, sometimes fragments stay as fragments or they can develop as alters themselves. I guess it all depends on the system. And also just a disclaimer - I don’t know if SC exists irl for Ian, so all mentions of that character is strictly storyline based. Okay so back to SC. In the mv Mito has suppressed SC because he needs to go about the day and get stuff done. So there is a bit of conflict going on because at the end, Mito wins out. We see him in the elevator as it closes and opens indicating a full switch. So the question remains was that Mito we saw in the red, black and white outfit. That was most likely SC for part of the time and maybe Mito for other parts. Because in the mv you would see stuff that don’t exactly fit into reality - e.g. reverse scenes - petals flying into his mouth, a green lamp and a white and red one on either ends of a framed photo of two doors (which indicates switching - as one exits, another enters but who?), the checkered floors moving, flames in the corner of the frame, the walls of the corridor moving as well and other noticeable things as well. So these all indicate that certain parts of the mv are inside his head. However on the outside is Mito trying to suppress all of that. We see scenes of Mito with the medication bottle, broken glass (which may indicate something had happened to trigger him breaking the glass and also identity fragmentation). There are other ways that show that Mito is trying to suppress SC besides physically restraining him and the use of the medication. It deals also with light and shadow. Anytime the darkness shifts towards SC, he moves towards the light in the corner. And as we know while Mito is related to protecting Ian from trauma and fronting during his depressive lows, Insanity is more associated with his manic highs. Which, if SC is related to Insanity, makes sense to me but still this is purely theory.

Okay this is weird though. My first comment (that got approved by yt) was actually a bit about what Limbo was about plus about how it relates to Ian personally. The 2nd comment was the list, but since it glitched out I copied/edited it again but I'm glad one of those got approved. So I don't know if you accidentally deleted it or if yt ended up being glitchy again. So I'll add what I can over here too. If you do find it, keep it both up because there might be stuff I missed out here that was from the first one. Ian has both bipolar 1 disorder and Dissociative Identity Disorder. His alters are Mito and Mr. Insanity. There is another character called the hybrid who is not an alter. Because in this mv Ian ends up in a place in his mind called The Void. The Void is where repressed memories - good and bad are being held. So what happens when those repressed memories come at a person with force? They cause chaos. We see a lot of that within the mv. In real life Mito is Ian's guardian or protector alter. Whenever Ian goes into a depressive low during his bipolar episodes and he's revisited by a certain emotion due to trauma, Mito switches with him. In general switches can happen for any length of time. There is the misconception that Mito is directly related to his bipolar but as an alter he is directly related to Ian's DID. It's like an indirect correlation. Bipolar low -> emotional state that may remind him or eventually remind him of trauma -> Mito senses it and switches. Mito switches when he's needed so there could be other times as well. Only Ian would know. The identity who switches and takes over is now at the front. This is where the term fronting comes from. So within the mv we see a mix of Ian's bipolar states - the highs and the lows. That is why people started understandably misinterpreting that state as the hybrid but Ian explained that we haven't seen the hybrid. We just see its influence through the colours red, green and blue. When Ian's eyes turn from yellow to blue that's the hybrid. Yellow is another significant colour I'll explain later. I don't know if you've noticed but his tie changed colours as well - red, green and blue. In the Void, the hybrid has taken up residence, well actually more like imprisoned there. As Mito is the protector he's trying to front which is why we see black smoke (which can sometimes represent Mito). The black smoke and fire represents the pain of Mito trying to front because even as a protector it's not easy for him. At the end we see Ian in the purple and checkered outfit. That is what we call the beginnings of him turning into Mr. Insanity. Since this section of the lore happens in Ian's mind, Mito appears as a separate character but Ian would eventually turn into Mr. Insanity. However irl, alters appear as different people within the mind. Mito as the protector finds himself more attuned to Ian's bipolar lows while Insanity is more attuned to his highs. His personality changes whenever he's in the manic high state but he doesn't always switch with Mr. Insanity. Those would happen in extreme specific cases where it's life threatening. So like I mentioned before, it's all related to indirect correlation and certain triggers. In general triggers can be both positive and negative. Sometimes switching can be planned or unplanned. Ian cannot predict his switches. He has tried forcing them but realized it wasn't a good thing to do. Okay so colour representations. Mito - red, black, white Insanity - purple (violet), yellow, green Hybrid - red, green, blue. Ian - we don't know but Dreamer theorists have put the colours as cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black). The reason for the theory is that Mito, Insanity and Hybrid's colours are influenced by the RGB colour theory while Ian is for CMYK. RGB is used for digital while CMYK is for print. So in that sense we can think of what's happening in his mind as RGB related while CMYK is for the real world. We can also see that Mito has a bit of red from the hybrid and Insanity has green which shows it's influence on them as well. Credit to AleKicz because they're the first person who I saw with that theory. Another theory is that if we take Mito's red and Insanity's green we get the colour yellow. When Ian goes through his bipolar highs and lows and when he switches from Mito to Insanity or Insanity-like it's like essences of both seep through and build up somewhere where you're basically afraid to look. Dreambigtheory on twt/x notices that in the lore Ian sometimes gets yellow eyes or wears yellow sunglasses and even has a wolf teeth necklace. Yellow represents that midway state between Mito and Insanity as though Mito and Insanity have blended together. It's what is called the wolf state and is the most dangerous state Ian can be in. That's why it was so easy for his eyes to turn blue because when it goes from Mito to yellow eyes (because Insanity is taking control so there's that midway point or limbo) and then as he switches to Insanity hybrid has more control over him. I could talk about Ian's lore all day. But you will see limbo represented in other ways in other mvs. Limbo can be metaphorically in between heaven and hell (like Ian mentioned). It can represent opposing forces being together or a midway point like being between bipolar highs and lows, Mito and Insanity blending together, the checkered patterns of black and white. Limbo can also be represented by liminal spaces like elevators, staircases and parking lots.

If you're interested in the storyline I'm going to give you a run down of his career and the story behind Limbo: About his career: He's korean-australian and as a teen he was part of heavy metal band while he was in Australia. It remains one of his favourite genres. He moved to Korea alone after just 1 year of university to pursue bboying. Suddenly was streetcasted and entered the Kpop group C-Clown as the main rapper/main dancer/leader back in 2012 (yes, wild ride...). They sadly underwent a lot physical and verbal abuse, didn't get much success and disbanded after just 3 years. After that he decided to work as a video director and shot videos for a lot of other korean artists. He then co-founded the record label DPR (Dream Perfect Regime) where he works as the chief editor and visual director, and they launched their first artist called DPR Live, Ian's close friend. For many years he was behind the cameras and had a lot of success as a director. It was only 2020 that he decided to start his solo career in which he produces and writes the songs plus directs and edits the videos himself. He also plays the drums, keyboard and bass. Background: At first he started because he wanted to tell his story and to help himself release and manage what he goes through. He struggles with bipolar disorder type I and DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and he decided to tell a storyline with three other "characters" besides himself: Mito, Mr Insanity and The Hybrid. But those aren't just characters, Mito and Mr Insanity are real people that have a mind of their own called "alters" (short for the medical term 'altered state of consciousness') and that he coexists with. In DID there's more than one person living in the same body with different memories, voice tone, body language, beliefs, motives, etc. DID stems from severe and/or repeated early childhood trauma (before 5 to 9 years old) that prevents the mind of the child from fully integrating into one singular identity. The mind grows as different alters (different people/identities) that develop separately and each one has a different role. One of these alters can be the 'protector alter' or there can be more than one. The protector alter is there to be the person who takes all of the trauma for the child and remembers them just so the others will forget (dissociative amnesia) That person was Mito. A child struck by trauma is like a broken mirror and each fragment, each alter, becomes its own mirror and functions separately but all pieces together complete the whole mirror, their whole 'system'. (how someone with DID may refer to themselves). The physical version of his first EP had a broken mirror inside the case and the cover of it is his picture behind a shattered glass. Someone with DID then only knows this mechanism to cope with trauma: to disassociate and become someone else. So they unconsciously switch between identities as they are exposed to stress and also more identities can be formed throughout their lives. Ian is the prominent identity, the one who stays the longest in control (called the "host"). In very stressful situations Ian blacks out and Mito takes control of the mind in order to protect him (he's the one "fronting" ps. there's also cofronting meaning more than one alter in control at the same time.) Ian then will come back hours, days, weeks later (the longest that it has been was a month) not remembering anything that was said or done. Basically his life has been lived and he doesn't know how. Mr Insanity is when he's manic due to his bipolar disorder. Ian personally calls this state his "manic high" and by that he could mean pure mania (without depressive symptoms). Although formally the "high" specifier is not needed and more like a personal choice since mania is by definition already a high state. Mania is when the person reaches a state of high euphoria and/or irritability. The person is in full speed, the ideas just flow, can't sleep, has high energy and rapid speech, makes irresponsible decisions and if severe it can turn into psychosis, when they start to have delusions (believes something that can't be true) and hallucinations (sees or hears something that doesn't exist). But he also treats Insanity as another alter, talking as if he has a mind of his own, as he does to Mito. He said that he has only blacked out into Insanity a few times. It's complicated since he has two diagnosis so they can interact in a different way compared to a person with just one or the other. For example when he dives into severe mania and suddenly experiences trauma or stress resembling a trauma while in this state, it's when his switches to another alter mostly are triggered which is an unique aspect to people with both disorders. Before he revealed that he has DID at the end of 2023, he was open only about his bipolar disorder since according to him he was embarassed of his DID. Before he always used to call Mito his "manic low" which he said is when he's manic but also empty, 'flat line' but still not depression. Although "manic low" is also not an expression formally recognized, by that he could mean the official term 'mania with mixed features' (basically mania with bits of depression) but he has never specified this. Now he mostly refers to Mito as his protector/guardian alter so both definitions are valid. About Limbo MV: Ian said the reason for him switching to Mito is usually because he is revisited by a feeling that triggers the same notion and emotion that he felt during a traumatic state. He often mentions that, since Mito is the “protector”, the way for Mito to come out would be after Mr Insanity, in order to protect their system from the madness Mr Insanity would ensue. The switch of Mr Insanity going to Mito and going back to Ian would leave a trail of chaos that Ian in real life would have to pay for by making amends and figuring out what he did. This space/transition between the end of Mr Insanity, which going into the beginning of Mito, the little gap between them, is what he calls “Limbo”. The story happens inside a world called "The Other Side" which represents his consciousness. It's a journey in which Ian goes into his own mind, where these alters exist. The only way to get into this world is through lucid dreaming (since childhood he lucid dreams 5-6 days a week, when you know that you are dreaming and can manipulate the dream to your desire). Several people with DID have 'inner/internal worlds' where alters can interact. Inside this world (inside his mind), there's a place called "the void". Everytime that he would switch into any alter and then come back to himself he wouldn't remember for example what this alter has done. This creates then forgotten experiences, ideas, memories or traumas. They are an excess or a so-called damage in his mind that goes to a certain compartment inside his consciousness that we don't even know exists permanently in the mind called 'the void' It has been there for as a long as we can remember and it was so successfully locked it away as a kid or an early teen that you dared not to look ever since because you're scared of how big it might have gotten. Over the years, these memories have dwelled so long that it creates it's own entity although not an alter: The Hybrid. He describes The Hybrid as an uninvited God, an ancient God that is almost like a ruler of The Other Side but not the originator. The Ian in the story (the protagonist in this video) comes across The Hybrid because it almost misleads him to itself, using Ian as a puppet since it wants to create a successor. The Hybrid wants a successor because through them it gains powers, a vessel and a rite of passage just so that it can escape the void. By doing that it could obtain complete control of this world (The Other Side). Each "character" in the story has its own colors. Although The Hybrid itself is never shown in 'Limbo', the blue eyes on Ian here and in 'Saint' represent Ian being influenced by it since the Hybrid colors are red, green and blue (the RGB color model). Mito is the guardian, the gatekeeper of The Other Side (given that he is the protector alter) and in the past he was the first successor of The Hybrid. Ian raised the possibly that the one trapped The Hybrid inside 'the void' was Mito himself. When Ian finally enters the enters The Other Side he will slowly lose his sanity and turn into Mr Insanity. This journey will be explored on his 'Dear Insanity...' EP MVs (Don't Go Insane, Peanut Butte & Tears and So I Danced). 'Saint' represents one of the taks given by The Hybrid that Ian had to do to enter this world (there's 7 more that will come in the next music video supposedly). Anyway, hopefully this was clear and I'm looking forward to the next reactions! To understand more about DPR Ian's lore, I would recommend going through his discography in order. So I have a list here if you're interested.
