We need to start cleaning our beaches from the weeds. If you go to the Caribbean or Florida the constantly clean the beach. Each beach hotel should be responsible for their beach front. They can hire beach boys to clean the beaches every day and ensure there is no sea weed. The sea weed can be processed into fertilizer since its reach in minerals.

We need to think big. What we need is a comprehensive mapping out of all flooded areas. The sources of the water and build canals, dykes, dams , pipes and all manner of waterways to capture this water before it floods settlement areas and direct it to dams for use in farm irrigation and drinking water. This will require resources which we do not have. The solution is PPP. Have private sector invest in these waterways and dams, have them create sources of revenue like farm irrigation, drinking water and sell these to the public to recover the costs they used to build the water infrastructure. Provide them with free land. We have millions of arid and semi arid lands that this water can be channelled to for the purpose of farm irrigation. As for piped water land can be provided that is close to urban areas for building drinking water infrastructure that can then be piped to urban households.

Belt tightening would be fine if it were about reducing unnecessary expenditure and bloated salaries at higher levels. Unfortunately, it will hit the economy hard when development expenditure and salaries of teachers and other essential workers are not paid and taxes on the remaining are increased. Kenya will be taught as another example of why austerity measures do not work to improve any economy, and that deficits, if the money is actually being put to good use, are not at all a problem for any economy. A good indicator is decreasing tax revenues and lower productivity plus capital flight as production costs incline steeply and taxation forces cutbacks. Look at Japan as an example of very high indebtedness but a fully functioning economy churning out high quality goods and services and a very high standard of living for its citizens. As long as productivity is high, they will not suffer any adverse consequences and are good for the level of debt in their ability to repay. Shutting down expenditure would be detrimental and would collapse their economy very quickly.
