First Electric Truck Around Australia - Part 2
Part 2, Darwin to Brisbane of First Electric Truck Around Australia
Realtime air quality map of Perth here
rac.com.au/about-rac/community-programs/air-health-monitor
Guy doing figure 8 around Oz in EV towing caravan is Harald Murphy. Follow him here x.com/harald_murphy The site chosen for the 4 way electron swap with Harald was around Ranken, NT. This is approximately midway between Threeways Roadhouse and Mt Isa a distance of 637Km which is location of only current fast chargers.
The Queensland government should be commended for the Fast chargers installed between Mt Isa to Townsville. All are reliable pull through locations (suitable for caravans and larger vehicles), 1000V so can charge ...

First Electric Truck attempt Around Australia
Просмотров 846Месяц назад
Purchased 7.5 tonne Electric Mighty with 120KW motor and claimed range of 200Km (Interestingly the Diesel powered version has zero range or fuel consumption specs??) The original plan was to drive around Oz in total unmodified vehicle but even after 6 months delays the planned EC DC Fast chargers have not eventuated at critical places. There are at least 3 legs that require range of 400-500 Km ...
Chook Pond Aug24

Nice sunny session in the Chook pond with many sailors out. As always random sailors targeted and only short flight times due to the wind but Snickers seem to dominate footage as was moving the most. Trying a bit of drone telemetry to give idea of the speeds. Music: Carry the Sun, The Glitch Mob

Chop looks like nothing in video. Was quite extreme and sailors all over the place so hard to get close. Slowboat, Snickers and SRS73. Didn't get any shots of Kwon or Scottish Pete the only other nutters out there bar a couple of wing dingers. Music: Rymdreglage - Zombie Pace
Warp drive Part 2: Initial Testing
Просмотров 3653 месяца назад
Video documents the initial tests of the Warp drive fins V1-V3. RUclips now has automatic subtitles. I'm not sure if these are useful or not for someone with my accent so for this video I left them on and in the previous video turned them off. Hit me in the comments if you like/dislike them. Basic concept was to emulate a windsurf sail with a stiff mast down the leading edge and a flexible foil...
Warp drive: Part 1: Theory and motivation
Просмотров 1983 месяца назад
This video documents the inspiration and motivation behind trying to make actively asymmetrical windsurf fins. Testing of the initial fins using this concept here: ruclips.net/video/F7Al5wK_bkw/видео.html The "ultimate" goal fin can morph to asymmetric foil shape on each tack but also fin needs to warp or twist at the tip and this twist needs to change for every angle of attack (i.e. upwind to ...
Fixing weird stuff and broken nose on Fangy Fin
Просмотров 753 месяца назад
This my first attempt at a tutorial. This is mainly for Fangman to show to to remove artefacts and fix the broken nose in Fusion 360. Better to follow my tutorial and avoid the broken nose in the first place.
3D printed Fin tutorial: adding the Tuttle

This video shows how I add the Tuttle including bolt holes using Fusion 360. Bit rough and ready and was first done for Fangman so I wouldn't have to keep doing these steps.
3D printed fin Tutorial: nuts and holes 4K

Very basic tutorial adding recessed nut holes and carbon stiffener holes. Bit rough and ready and aimed at beginners. Initially made for Fangman so I wouldn't have to keep doing these steps.
Fin (& Foil) design tutorial

This video shows how I design fins (and foils) for 3D printing. I am no expert in CAD but I can design a fin ready for 3D printing in under 10 minutes. If you like this kind of content or things that I might have skipped please let me know in the comments below. I use Fusion 360 which is free for non commercial hobby use. www.autodesk.com.au/products/fusion-360/ Winghopper www.winghopper.com Ai...
Floating Fin

In order to reduce cost/environmental impact for prototype fins I tried filling 3D printed fins with Polyurethane expanding foam. The claim is it expands 20-25 times which makes 2Kg (1666ml) raw product purchased here in Perth at $45 (at the furthest reaches of the known universe) cost around 3cents per ml. But since this stuff expands (assuming max claimed expansion of x25) the cost reduces to...
Slowboat, Herron Point, WA

Herron Point, WA June 9, 2024 on very high tide WNW. Intention was to film Boz, Dan and Slowy but Boz and Dan insisted on either chugging or going way over other side 5km away which was too dangerous in this wind for the drone to get back. At time stamp 1:43 it appears Slowy looses his hat but was really a board, fin and hat change. The last frame with the hat on he was 2 1/2 km from launch spo...
3D printed fins for under $30 AUD

This video shows how I manufacture a 3D printed windsurf fin that is long lasting for under $30 AUD. The build technique can be used for many other things. Exact cost of fin shown as follows PETG Fin print: $4.12 PETG Tuttle print $0.99 PETG sheet trailing edge: negligible Epoxy: $15 6mm Stainless rods and nuts: $2 Carbon rods: $4 Total: $26.11 AUD 3 Syringes (reusable indefinitely): $4.50 You ...
More experiments with rotating Canards + more
Просмотров 1695 месяцев назад
Finally got a brief period of wind to try out a pile of new stuff including V2 variants of the rotating Canards plus some wacky flexible trailing edges. The conclusion is Canards certainly seem to give large improvement in fin performance. However, still in question is whether rotating canards are better than fixed and whether canards allow you to run smaller fins. A small note on the last grap...
First experiments with Rotating Canards for windsurf fins
Просмотров 7027 месяцев назад
An old timer windsurfer who goes by the nickname Decrepit called me out of the blue and started talking about Canards and how they dramatically increased the lift produced by a fin. I was intrigued so stopped working an adjustable flap fin and started playing around with Canards. Many thanks to Elmo for the donor board and Decrepit for inspiration, advice and helping with the board modification...
