what happend here? its not just the graphics downgrade. look at the face of the human, the textures and the animation, its so much better then the final version? it makes me feel, the "real" animations were done to like 80% and someone lost the backup and they had to come up with a solutions for the whole game and that had to happen FAST
Exactly! That's also my point of view! It's beyond me, why they would throw away a masterpiece of graphics, animation and character design and replace it with a placeholder like "work-in-progress" graphics. Either, they bundled by mistake the very early placeholder content or there was an accident and they lost all the good stuff and were forced to recreate it in no time.
People seem to think the leaked footage was running on a different engine (which it clearly was, unreal engine maybe) and that EA forced them to use Frostbite to save money. As we know, Frostbite is complete garbage for RPG games and Bioware have stated time and again that it's no good because it was designed from the ground up to run Battlefield. According to Bioware, they had to patch the engine and create new extensions in order for Inquisition to work. Andromeda suffered for a few reasons, for a start they lost veteran ME developers to Anthem, the engine was swapped to Frostbite mid-development and the new team consisted mostly of rookies who had never worked on a AAA title before.
The Marauder the leaked video was running on Frostbite engine, you can see the FPS in the screen and is the same as the ones who use Frostbite games like bf, nfs, etc
The answer is actually pretty simple: no engine switches from UE4 to Frostbite (it's absolutely impossible to do so during late stages of development and it surely won't save any money) and of course no backup losses (how could you even imagine this?). Actually, there are two major things that got downgraded: smoke effects and overall animations. It's hard to say what happened to smoke effects, but I think that they just were cut down from the game and replaced with more simple version. Maybe they were too demanding and bad optimized and since this effect is merely used in several cutscenes it's much simpler to cut it. Considering animations problems. You know, usually in games of such scale it's impossible to manually animate/motion-capture everything. It's way too costly and time demanding. Some parts of these scene were definitely motion-captured, like Aroane falling (this part is actually intact in the final build), some parts are procedurally generated, like facial expressions. The problems that we are seeing in the final game are definitely collision (twitching pistol) and procedural face expressions generator bugs. I think that at some point BioWare implemented new features to animation system, which caused major bugs and noticeable problems with ALL procedural animations in the game. That's why alpha build is so much better in terms of animations.
actually I think they had some issue at some point and were forced to ship it anyway because EA forced them to release it on a particular date. I won't buy it until it gets patched btw (this is what everyone should do, if you want good games don't buy shitty half-finished ones. Show the corporate trash like EA and ubi that they need to stop this now)
Right side he winces and groans, while left side he looks emotionless. How sad.
Fuck ME:A, garbage game

This really shows they had no fucking excuse...
