animated movies are my personality trait :)
“in many ways, the work of a critic is easy. we risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. we thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. but the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. but there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. the world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. the new needs friends.” - ratatouille

My favorite wes Anderson is mr fantastic fox. Thanks for putting it at number 10.😑
awesome!
진짜 오프닝 말곤, 건질게 없는 뮤지컬 ㅠㅠ.. 기대를 많이 했었는데.....
Jesus Christ is Lord and He loves you all so much!
OML THANK YOU!!! I COULDENT REMEBER KUBO!! IVE BEEN TRYING SO HARD TO REMEBER WHHAT THAT MOVIE WAS CALLED😭🙏🙏🙏
If you're planning to watch more Kurosawa films, I'd recommend High & Low.
i added a bunch of his to my watchlist after seven samurai and that was one of them!
Are these stats about my film watching habits that I would be interested in seeing? Yes. Do I have any money to pay for a letterboxd patron or pro account? …no comment.
Great lists! Some of my first-watches were Casablanca, The Truman Show, Terminator 2 and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind of 2024! I definitely noticed from Schaff's ranking videos and ratings they were high up and I'm glad I checked them out!
4:45 letterboxd really needs to get to changing that 😭😭 anyways! here’s to 2025 & all sorts of experiences it’ll bring to us movie-watchers 🎉
indeed they do. lookin forward to 2025 as well!!
No films from Greenland? For shame, Olivia!
bringing out the ukulele as we speak
here to see which ones are my fault
there’s no felidae so you’ve been spared
I say, that was a very interesting video! I'm exited to see what 2025 brings you and I think it's gonna be a great film year for me! I'm currently doing a watch of all the Dreamworks movies and I plan on starting to watch every Best Picture nominee ever once that's done. (I've already seen every winner, though I've yet to log all of them)
aw thank you, and best of luck!
Hey Olivia, have you tried marathoning every Best Animated Feature nominee? I’d highly recommend it. I’m having fun with it so far.
i will eventually, maybe around the time during the oscar's 100th anniversary
I love that idea! I'd totally watch that, maybe after I go through all of them. (Remember, I'm watching every nominated movie for Best Picture, or most of them, anyways)
@@ConradCritiques Yes, please. Like, there are so many underrated ones that I found like Ernest and Celestine, Over the Moon, I Lost My Body, The Secret of Kells, etc. I wish more people would talk about them so they don’t go overlooked.
This is the best portrayal of Sofia I have ever seen. Even though there are so many oustanding great ones. Also Wait She Killed Magpie that easily, I thought she was knocked down purposely, I mean I Supported Sofia in the series and also originally even in Batman The Long Halloween and Batman Dark Victory as one of my favourite Batman Characters but taking down someone as Magpie is kind of overpowered, but then again I guess just like How Batman was weakened in all Live-action movies she was too. Damn it I wanted to see More Magpie.
THE BATMAN 2 GOT DELAYED AGAIN WHY CAN’T I CATCH A BREAKKKKKK
Cristin Milioti was an absolute revelation as Sofia Gagante. She was beautiful terrifying and sympathetic at the same time. I liked her way more than I liked Oz. She was the protagonist of this Batman spinoff series. You are talking straight facts about Sofia in this video
Cristin absolutely owned this role. Great job on the video!
indeed she did, and thank you 🥰
@@livmendel You're welcome! Merry Christmas! 🎄
3:09, This aspect of her origin, that was slated to inherit a criminal organization that uses drugs and repurposed renewal funds that should be diverted into rehabilitating the city as a business. But after getting driven insane by her treatment at Arkham due to the actions of Carmine and Oswald sending, one eliminating any perceived threat to his power and the other exploiting the treacherous nature of this business to give himself an advantage, she is given various opportunities to simply leave, just like Victor is, but greed and ambition holds both of them back, Victor buying into the idea that he'd be making something of himself and Sofia wishing to spite those that mistreated her by showing her superiority to them. This choice to give into greed destroys both of them and again only benefits Oswald, as Victor aids him in various crimes and Sofia becomes the monster everyone thinks she is with her crime sprees, leading the low level goons she and the other crime lords weren't paying attention to, along with both the poor and rich sides of the city she posed a threat to, to collectively condemn her as the villain, the true villain. Oswald again and again exploits people's greed to further his own ambitions, and again and again, we see people from all corners of the city, wether rich, poor, a cop, politician or goon, all of them play his game.
such a persuasive, eloquent and detailed analysis of a character i knew little nothing about, well done on another banger video :) , **bee added the penguin to her watchlist**
awww thank you so much 😭💞💞 can’t wait for you to check it out!!
My day was pretty boring, but then Olivia uploaded, and that changed
a boring christmas eve? aw ☹️ glad i could help though!!
You did a great job highlighting a bunch of nuances of both the performance and writing
thank you :))
I still need to watch this show, but Arcane has taken my life.
Look, I’ve never been one of those “I could fix her” guys, BUT…
I think it would have been clever if they had Rameses (who is meant to be like 5 in the original animated prince of Egypt) already know about Moses being Hebrew. this could allow further motivation in the conflict for Rameses since he could decide on his own to not tell him in order to protect him from certain death. This isn't really kept a secret from him and Moses mother is allowed to nurse him (like in scripture) but Moses doesn't remember enough of his mother to know for himself. Rameses thinks he is right but Moses doesn't take it that well (when revealed in the aftermath of the killing of the guard or the return to Egypt scene) and so Rameses feels further betrayed by his brother because he thought he was doing the right thing. This adds a bit more justified motivation to not bend to his brother because Rameses did this before and he lost his family since the previous Pharoah has presumably died in the time between Moses leaving and Rameses coming to power. IDK but this is how I think I would write it if I was in charge
Where is Hell and Back? I know is a god awful movie but is still a stop motion movie.
I own it on blu ray. I genuinely enjoyed it
Oh snaps came back to this and got the rango part
I really liked the suspense of guessing what numbers 30-2 were. Number 1 was a foregone conclusion.
Please do a hunchback stage musical analysis!!
i was getting sad (yet excited) for a second and was thinking to myself... ima get to recommend Kaguya... oh nvm, just where it should be. If I had any other recommendations, because your list is rather complete, I watched the Little Witch Academia (short) movies kinda recently, and they're genuinely such fun time (i consider them in some ways one thing since they're both short); think wholesome spooky content. Another one and maybe more of 'real' rec would be the "Boy and the World" which i hold to similar level as Kaguya. Try not to look up much about it though if you haven't seen it. Anyways, thanks for the great vid.
Even before I became Batman fan, I loved The Lego Batman way more The Lego Movie. So Much so it became one of many reasons to dive into it's lore. The Lego Batman is my second mist favourite Batman Movie after Batman Gotham Knight, but even so The Lego Batman is the most rewached Batman or any movie I ever watched, usually I avoid rewatching things even if I loved it. The Words are too cheap to describe how much I Love The Batman and The Lego Batman, it's a HISHE Batman would get movie one day too so that they can crossover in a movie war of I Am Batman. It would ber very intense.
the reveal for number 5 got me so giddy
Olivia you should watch "Batman the Animated Series" that aired in 1992 if you want to watch more batman media many batman fans consider that series, they favorite version because of its emotional storytelling and great writing and with Keven Conroy the voice of batman passing away now is the perfect time to watch it plus it has Mark Hamill as the joker may I say more.
35:29 Suleiman is actually her dead brother!
right, i just meant idrees could’ve grown up to be like him instead of joining the taliban, especially since they have the same voice actor
Love the humor, look forward to the next video!
thank you! my next one probably won’t be as funny since i’m talking about one of my favorite shows, and it’s a heavy one…🐧
@livmendel we'll be here for it anyway!
I see Rango in the thumbnail… I click. I watch video, I click like
“I am so normal about this movie” yes we can tell. This movie deserves this level of “obsession” it’s one of the greatest movies in cinematic history.
The Patreon early access seems to always be well worth it! Seen a couple, heard of some and now I see new ones! Well done with this video! ✨
55:55 For the people who have watched Sideways videos, this will make your hairs stand up.
Fr when you mentioned the 3rd movie of a DreamWorks trilogy who may be controversial, I feared the Shrek one 👉👈
Hell yeah.
really wonderful video! i added all of the ones i haven’t seen to my watchlist on letterboxd! :) also YES A FELLOW WEATHERING WITH YOU TRUTHER I also prefer it over Your Name.
My top 30 favorites (as of now)---keep in mind some of these I need to revisit: Honorable Mentions: Inside Out, April and the Extraordinary World, The Rabbi's Cat, and The Painting 30. Loving Vincent 29. The Boy and the Beast 28. Birdboy: The Forgotten Children 27. The Breadwinner 26. Night is Short, Walk on Girl 25. In This Corner of the World 24. Klaus 23. I Lost My Body 22. The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (after watching your video I will definitely need to rewatch this one) 21. Marona's Fantastic Tale 20. Leafie: A Hen Into the Wild 19. My Life as a Zucchini 18. Ernest and Celestine 17. The Lego Movie 16. Toy Story 3 15. Coco 14. Boy and the World 13. Song of the Sea 12. Isle of Dogs 11. The Wind Rises 10. The Wolf House 9. The Illusionist 8. Wolf Children 7. Anomalisa 6. Tower (2016) 5. A Silent Voice 4. Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse 3. Your Name 2. It's Such a Beautiful Day 1. When Marnie Was There (One of the only movies that have ever made me cry) I'm also planning on doing a top whatever list of my favorite animated films of the first half of the 2020s. Just got a lot of catching up to do. I might even do one for animated series since this has been a really good decade for those as well.
nice list! proud to say that there's just 5 movies on here i haven't seen: tower, the illusionist, leafie, in this corner of the world, and the boy and the beast 😎 though all of them except leafie are on my watchlist
@@livmendel All are worthy of checking out. Leafie is a South Korean film that doesn't get a lot of attention. Although I've seen a couple of people on youtube talk about it. If you do watch it, make sure it's the Korean dub and the uncut version since in some releases they cut out the ending---which is stupid considering it's one of the best and most powerful scenes in the film.
yeah i remember hearing about that. i'll keep an eye out for it!
Kudos to you for mentioning Away, such an underrated film from that year that I'm glad more folks are getting around to with Flow on the horizon. Big fan of Gints's earlier stuff, excited he's finally breaking out into the mainstream. Also thanks for liking my old Letterboxd review for Away lol
wowww small world, you're welcome!
I can just listen to your commentary for hours…. I feel like this list is perfect! Thanks for this!!!!
SHE'S BAACKK!!!
