I like the way his dialogue was written. From the very moment he came onscreen, all the way up to the end, he constantly said EXACTLY what was going through his head before he commited any offenses… he pretty much says nothing else. He is a sensitive boy who is paranoid about being controlled, forced, coerced, and taken advantage of. He desperately desires a life where he feels loved and cared for, and he is horribly terribly alone without any genuine friends. Everyone who hangs with Nathan, only does so when drugs and parties are involved. His popularity doesn’t compensate for the lack of warmth he experiences. He’s still scared, hypervigilant, angry, and he feels waves of despair and self-pity. Nathan, Chloe and Rachel are more similar than people may initially think. They all struggle with reactive and impulsive behavior, they hastily switch to anger when they percieve abandonment (even if their perceptions are wrong), they are scared and hate lies/betrayal, filled with anger, they use substances to cope with life, and they can even get physically violent.
