    At 68 having pushed through CLL (chronic leukemia) and a reverse left shoulder replacement (bike crash 😮 ). who rides 6000 miles a year again and does gravel and road . Clipping in for a gravel event with insanely difficult climbs that our going to require WALKING is just a bad plan as you’re going to need to unclip on 12 to 18 degree section and fall over and hurt yourself multiple times Flat pedals with walkable bikes absolutely the better choice

    This is all great stuff. Let's recognize how high the fitness barrier is to cycling. It really is a herculean effort to come "off the couch" and start tackling big rides. Building up to a 124 mile / 10,000 ft ride takes time for a trained athlete let alone for people with a limited aerobic / fitness base. Carrying extra weight makes the task exponentially harder. Would love to see the team tackle something hard but a little more achievable.

    You all are so inspiring! I am a lifelong cyclist who has NEVER fit in so I am totally relating to this! I am short and muscular (with a bit more X than Y you might say.... @ 59 I am 5'6" 190# and look dumb as shit in lycra!)) and have been around the cycling world in some way shape or form for 40 years since retiring from gymnastics. "You don't LOOK like a cyclist" is something I have heard countless times in my career as a (exeptionally average pack fill road, mountain and cyclocross racer in Colorado from 1985 to 2010 ( 24 Hours in and Rage in the Sage were anchors in my season). I hate to say it, but cyclists aren't the most tolerant/friendly/welcoming group in the world....) and now gravel racer ever since in Pennsylvania, I have had to withstand being on the outside looking in regardless of how much I would diet and ride. Sideways glances that I just knew meant....what's HE doing here? Anyway......my point is...... I am so glad that I kept showing up and RIDING! It's worth it! My life is blessed and I have cycling to thank for that! It's funny but the challenges most of us face originate right in the space between our ears and can grow into insurmountable obstacles if we let "fitting in" hold us back! If anyone wants to connect on Strava....hit me up at Tom Jensen - Malvern PA (Pic is a time trialing Day of the Dead Skeleton) lol!

    Your challenges are so hard there is no way for any of these guys to complete with a victory. They are set up to fail. I love your show I just think they should have a challenge they actually have a chance to complete.

    • @Colleenann61
      @Colleenann61 День назад

      I disagree. Yes, it is a significant challenge, but it is also a huge learning experience. Not completing does not mean failure. No matter how far they get, they will have achieved a huge accomplishment from where they started. That’s a win in my book.

      So often we get focused only on the end goal - Finishing the gravel race for example. This is about the process, the story, the journey of becoming a cyclist. They could come away saying I attempted a really hard race and didn’t finish and failed, maybe. But more importantly they will forever be able to say ‘I’m a cyclist! And I started from the ground up and you can too!’ That’s success and victory!!

    • @AaronCorcoran1
      @AaronCorcoran1 20 часов назад

      Because of this show I trained for a full year for the Leadville 100. For at least 6-8 months I was convinced I couldn’t finish, but I was going to try. Making a cutoff or two would be an amazing accomplishment. I had never done a mountain bike race before and had lived with chronic pain before two hip surgeries. I kept pushing forward, training my ass off and I finished, beating my stretch goal with a time of 10:21. When you really commit, you can surprise yourself and do things that seem impossible.
