I worked Newcastle an lived in cameron pk for 14 years ,i regretted having a house build there the street finished up full of drug dealers an inbreds ,there ar still some nice people there an as soon as i retired my wife an i sold up an now live in portmaqarie an we love it .

The whole of NSW is being neglected in favour of Sydney and as the infrastructure there is being swamped by the arrival of huge numbers of immigrants every year its unlikely to change.

I lived in Chinchen St in 1976, I was 10 years old, and my brother was 9. There was a corner shop - No. 64 (although it wasn't on the corner). It still has the big shop windows. There were probably a few more used car yards at the time on Maitland Rd. We never went near the pubs or Beaumont St. The street hookers came along much later, thankfully we were long gone. A terrible time for families in the area.

There are some shocking pockets of below average housing in North Lambton , Wallsend and even Belmont north . Not as much as what you mentioned above in your video . Oh what about the housing commission complex’s in bar beach , cooks hill and Newcastle east ? There are plenty more areas worth a mention

As a Train driver in Newcastle, it always blows me away how long trains are when seen from above. I know they’re that long, you’re always thinking about where the back of your train is while you’re driving along, but seeing it from above compared to the rest of the city really puts it into perspective

I call it "The Newcastle Syndrome" We are treated like Sydneys retarded cousin up the road. For the second largest city in NSW we get shafted all the time with basic infrastructure needs. We have had 'The road to nowhere for what, 20 years? the Tourle St Bridge fiasco, the end of the M1 to Raymond Terrace bypass procrastination and many many more. At least things are finally happening but it should have been started 20 years ago!
