Egyptian art was more stylistically, but the mosaic floor in Pompeii from 100BC, mediaeval manuscripts from 1300s, Velazquez “Breda” around 1634, both Michelangelo and Da Vinci around 1500, battles have been painted in gory detail for centuries, maybe millenia.

Its a decent list of artworks that people should know. But it really is a very subjective list of important paintings that are not objectively the most famous. I'd argue that many more people in the world know "Campbells Tomato Soup" by Andy Warhol than "Las Meninas", "The Persistance of Memory" by Dali than the "Arnolfini Portrait" or "Blue Horses" by Franz Marc than "Sunday Afternoon..." and wether "Guernica" is actually more famous than "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon"... I'm not so sure.
