Weather Shift to Wildfire: Our Jasper Evacuation Footage

*Update* Just wanted to point out some factual errors in the video. For one, the fires you see on the map are a generalization and do not reflect precise locations. It is mentioned in the video that the southern fire started around Maligne Lake, but we can't find much information on an exact starting location so this is false. I also misspoke a couple times: highway 16 west to B.C. was the only...
Which Camino Route Should You Take?

#caminodesantiago THANK YOU for watching. Please consider hitting that subscribe button if you found the video of some use. Today I go over the most popular Camino de Santiago routes. Historically, pilgrims set out from their local church or simply their doorstep. This created over time a network of routes leading to Santiago de Compostela. They became much better marked and distinct the closer...
Car Camping In Our 2024 Subaru Crosstrek in the Rockies (ASMR)
Просмотров 3957 месяцев назад
We took our 2024 Crosstrek Onyx to the Canadian Rockies for some car camping and hiking. Our next step is installing a roof cargo box as things do get cramped. We slept in the car on this one to test out the space. I am 5"10' (Scott) and can just barely stretch out with the front seats moved up. We used a memory foam mattress with sleep pads (inflatable) and flattened out the surface using shee...

Thank you for this nice overview of your camino. I'm walking the Portuguese Way this year. I'm sorry your drone was damaged.

What time of year did you go?
Cheers. Im going to do it from Lisbon in January coming.
Have fun! Please tell us how it is.
Very informative thank you ! Do you know The Pennine Way in UK ? Its amazing also
Funny, I actually walked close behind you near A Guarda when your where filming each other walkning. Great documentary
Crispy.
Nice asmr!
So beautiful nature you got there.Enjoyed watching it very much. Thanks 😊
Bear spray please!!!
Thank you for sharing. It’s on my bucket list to do the El Camino one day. 🇨🇦
Love it! You guys are amazing! ❤
So confused. So the littoral is the actual one that is right along the coast. The "coastal" route is different- on the map it looks like it doesn't go right on the coast so I assume you cannot see the coast as much? Did you get any thoughts on the central way and why did you choose anomther over it?
As far as I know, when we were there the "coastal route" was better signposted but does come in land a little at times. As far as my knowledge goes, I think with the litoral route, you just hug the coast wherever you can. As long as you're walking north, you can in theory choose your own way to do it. As far the central way goes, I can't speak to it as we we stuck to the sign-posted coastal route. I think at times we probably found ourselves on the litoral route (especially with the initial walk out of Porto), but just headed north and followed signposts as much as possible.
@@SojournWithUs ah ok! two questions- how far do you usually have to walk between amenities for food and water on the coastal route, and were there plenty of beds and choices for accommodation? if there were towns where it was harder to find these could you remember where they were? thanks so much!
You do know they let the town burn intentionally ? It would have been easy to control
Please explain!

found this very interesting... we were visiting from Detroit, and have almost the SAME video and experience as you guys.. we posted it basically the same day as you too (also had ice ream in jasper too :) ) . did you end up in kamloops then east back toward banff to edmonton?
We went to Kamloops and went east through Golden/Banff back to our house north of Calgary. Did you guys have to get back to Edmonton for a flight?
@@SojournWithUs We flew out of Calgary.. made it back just in time.
Great coverage! I just finished the coastal route by bike (except I didn't cross to A Guarda, but went East to Valenca/Tui and then North). I definitely watched this video for inspiration! It took me just 6 days, by bike, but I also cheated on Day 1 (took the metro to Povoa de Varzim). Thanks for sharing and showing everyone how easy and fun this could be!
That's amazing to hear! Thanks for the lovely comment. We're glad you had a successful trip :)
Beautiful video thank you. I’d like to do this September/25 just before my 75th bday. Do you think it would work to do this in double the time you did, and be able to stay in accommodation other than the albergues without reserving ahead?
Hi Betty, glad you liked the vid! You could certainly prolong the walk as much as you want. We took some down days to just hang at the beach, for example. Biona (for example) would be a great place to spend a few extra days. As far as accomodation goes, we found that most towns we went through had an alternative to albergues - this would require research and my instinct says these would have to be booked ahead of time, so you'll have to plan out your trip and figure how many days you will stay in each town. Remember, if you don't feel like walking one day to make your next destination, there are often public transportation options (again, research needed). Make it your own journey. I would have a look at the link under the video (stingy nomads) and have a look at the itinerary. Look at the mileage fore each day and decide how you want to split it up. Do some research into the different towns and see which ones you'd like to stay an extra day or so. Let us know if you have any more questions, and Bom Camino :)
Why?
Your videos are really awesome. But your video views are very less I think you should focus on video SEO.
Thank you for this video! Prepping for our first Camino in 5 weeks, and doing this route. Anyone know about the Spiritual Variant?
Glad I came across you!! Not only is this great footage, but has a lot of information! Thanks! Glad you have had successful Caminos! ❤❤
Thanks Meredith for the kind words, we are glad it was helpful.
Get your information correct ...... the fire did NOT start at Maligne lake.
Hi Manny, please read the video description as we fully recognize some information in the video is incorrect - we made the video as soon as we got home and rolled with the information we had. That being said, we welcome any accurate information to help us so if you know the specific location of the start of the southern fire please let us know and provide a source.
@@SojournWithUs The south fire started near the Athabasca Hostel by lightening across and down the road from the Athabasca falls ….. my friends called it in. There were other lightening strikes in the area as well after that one.
@@mannyk291 Thanks, I did some research after your initial comment to try to find an accurate starting position for the southern fire. I can't seem to find anything official but ChatGPT did tell me Athabasca Falls and pointed to a website called therockymountaingoat.com, but I couldn't find the article it was supposedly citing. Crazy that your friends were seeing it happen in real-time and reported it. We were a ways north of there and could hear the thunder.
Thank you for sharing this. 👍😎🇨🇦
This is absolutely terrifying! I’m so sorry! Love from Ontario. ❤
Thanks Rachel!
Unforgettable experience guys - glad you're safe and thanks for sharing.
Thanks Nige!
Awsome shots. So sad to see this😢😢😢
Thank you. It's really awful to see such a beautiful town so damaged by this wildfire. Thoughts are certainly with those who have lost their home ☹️
Glad you guys are safe. Good to see you both
Thanks!
Great video guys. Nice to see the community growing
Thanks Nige!
Thanks for the video. It is helpful ❤
Thanks, glad you found it useful :)
Hello, love your documentary. My husband and I are doing our first Camino in Sept. ‘24. Can you please give info on how to book albergues along the routes? Also any other apps and websites we need along the way. Thank you. 🙏
Hi! Glad you liked the video :) We just used the Stingy Nomads itinerary, and you can check out the Camino Ninja app, which will help you plan. Many Albergues were first-come, but there were a few that allowed bookings. Check out the app I mentioned - it should have that info. Hope that helps!
Hairspray for the bear xDDD love it man this is really sick
Thanks for the kind words, Chad! 😊
The nature and landscapes are amazing 😊😊😊
Happy you liked it!
This is one of the best Camino videos I've watched and has definitely helped to cement my intention to walk the Camino Portugues this summer. Thank you for sharing :)
Wow what a lovely comment to read! Thank you Becca, we're so happy you enjoyed the video and have decided to complete your own Camino journey - good luck with it all! Bom Camino!
Not sure but did you do the coastal or along ocean
Hey, we followed the coastal route, which hugs the ocean/coastline for a lot of the way - especially in Portugal. Hope that helps!

What time of year did you go?
Hey, we went between July and August. Bom Camino!
@@SojournWithUs thanks, I'm planing on late July! No issues with the heat?
Also, did you feel waterproof shoes were necessary?
@@pmax4182000We didn't find the heat too bad, it's just really important to stay hydrated (luckily there's a lot of places to get water along the way, we didn't find this difficult). We also had some cooler/rainier weather to break up the heat, and some small sections of the hike have tree cover. As long as you're prepared and your body is acclimatized to hiking, you should be okay!
@@pmax4182000No we didn't have any waterproof shoes with us for the hike. We have a few kit list and packing tips videos on our channel specifically for the Camino, if you want to check them out for more info 😊
Love to see it
