США
Добавлен 26 июн 2023
My name is Herb. I live in Bucks County, PA (zone 7a) and got hooked on figs a couple years ago. Follow along with me as I learn how to grow and propagate these little wonders of nature and share my experiences with you. Feel free to send me a comment.
Mid November Update
It's mid-November and my trees are dropping leaves and getting ready for the winter. They're not dormant yet but probably will be pretty soon.

Is It Time For Winter Storage

Quite a few people are asking me if they should be putting their fig trees away for the winter. Everyone seems to think that a frost might kill their tree.
"Windy" - My In-ground Chicago Hardy
Просмотров 43Месяц назад
This in-ground Chicago Hardy has gone through two winters in zone 7a. Last year I pruned it to within 10 inches of the ground and only covered it with some mulched leaves. It "woke up" in mid-May and grew about 10 feet in height, with nice fat branches. I expect to get some really nice cuttings when it goes dormant this year.

I've been eating figs for several weeks now. I love them in my salad and we even made some fig jam.

No
Is there a wasp inside?
So I would like to know how many of those cuttings took root? Why you wrap the cutting ?
I thought you were crying at the start of the video
No, just clearing my throat. I probably should have started over.
@ it sounds more patriotic if you were crying with passion for your democracy though 😆
Did you use rooting hormones?
You pinched! 👍
When doing a tour it's nice to have a narrative with it. Beautiful gardens; thanks for the video.
Thanks
👍🤩💝 I love figs. I hope you get to harvest some without the birds damaging them. Maybe try utting netting over the fig trees. 🙏💝

So are these cuttings just planted this season? Can they grow this quick? I mean this season still has some time to go , so these cuttings will be huge . Is it blue or black figs ? Thanks for the post, always wanted a fig tree/bush
These are all this year’s cuttings.
My cuttings I rooted in March are only 6 inches tall at most how do you get them to grow so fast?
@@evanborge494 I get them out in the sun as soon as there are leaves.
Thanks for posting. Those fig trees look really healthy. I have two fig trees in pots. Do you leave your figs out over winter?
They spend winters in my garage or attic.

So nice of you. I’m glad you enjoyed.
Beautiful garden
Thanks!
How do you know when it's time to up pot? I noticed you didn't separate any roots before putting it in the new pot. Is that traditionally what you do?
I separate the roots only when the tree is really root-bound. I try to up-pot when I think the roots have developed enough to the point where they’re not yet root-bound but may be soon.
what kind (species) of fig in the video
This is a Chicago Hardy
@@GrowingFigsinPA-fj3nl thank you
I miss you both so much! I am so honored and sending all my love from Chicago! Keep up the awesome videos ❤️
Thank you so much!!
I don't think it was a mistake since you were able to remove the fig without losing any roots
What is this netting?
Trying to keep the squirrels from digging in my pots.
Wait till they ripen
That is a lot of grows at this time of the year.
