Very cool video! On multiple occasions in the 90's I saw Prowlers and Intruders flying very low very fast while I was hiking in the WA Cascades. I also remember (1991-92?) when an A-6 clipped its wing on the basalt cliffs near Vantage WA about 25 minutes from where I live. Sadly the crew was killed.
RIP Grady and Dewey.
Take a compliment from a former submariner. This is awesome footage! I also love the "pilot stache" that he had going! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
They should of kept this flying or vice versa Keep the 14 flying. As a lay person I have a hard time with The hornet replacing both. In my opinion it doesn't . How come our military went from having more is better and if there is room for it we will put a weapon there. Its like our government abandoned the things that made us the premier super power !!
Awesome footage! I was P-3 Aircrew at Whidbey in the 90's. I miss flying around the Cascades.
They never built anything better for low level attack than the A-6..............
that's how the Cavalese cable car crash happened, same plane too. how to cause a carnage and get away with it just for being a sky cowboy. well done.
Not really. These flights were on approved military training low-level routes in Washington and Oregon, USA and not in Italy. Also the plane in that tragic incident was the EA-6B Prowler which is a 4 seat electronic warfare aircraft. The A-6E is a two seat attack aircraft.
Go Grumman Aerospace (wish u we’re still with us)
I was attached to VA-176 from 83 to 86. The A-6E is the best Med Attack aircraft ever! I miss those days.
VA-35 Black Panthers for me, back in the first half of the '70's.3 years..AMS-3
I was in VA 196 FOR THEIR LAST DEPLOYMENT ON the CVN 70 the Carl Vinson and decommissioned in February of 1997
Lovely flight in Washington state.
Great plane, great route. Miss it more than you can imagine.
Excellent music for this!
West Coast best coast.
I retired from Whidbey as a SAR pilot up there and recognize a lot of the mountains and valleys. I really wanted to fly those but in 1991 when I selected out of 36 1 guy got jets and 28 of us got Helo's. Wasn't so bad though, I flew SH-60B's which at the time were the most advanced in the world, while not real fast it was a pretty capable machine for finding the enemy be they surface or subsurface. Alone and unaffraid when the Carrier was shut down for the night and the E2's were put to bed, we were out there way in front of the battle group looking. Love this A6 footage.
If this looks somewhat familiar, it's because it's the same "canyon" they flew in Top Gun Maverick. I think.
Yup, they filmed the end of TGM in the Washington Cascades.
I think I flew over that same spot on the 50. I'll take A thru C on the 50 over Whidbey H any day.
He caught a "last chance" 4 wire! Some great flying and footage.
Rare! Shit Hot
Spero che non siano dello stesso squadrone della strage del Cermis, farabutti
good God ! these guys are the real McCoy!!!
Great Video! I was one of the lil green guys on the ground below...I always thought of the Intruder psychos my best friends as a 19 year old Marine in the WESTPAC...good shiiiii!!!
Top-notch material, thanks for sharing!! 😁👍🏻
Great video. Would love to see some great carrier ops stuff.
Thanks for sharing Donger
Oh man the 80 s and 90 s...love this time of my youth. Great flying stuff...so Iconic. ruclips.net/video/Vt-6phP2kto/видео.html one of my Sorties DCS F/A-18C SAD on my Server FConnor. Greetings from Fred CONNOR
Nice to have the Who just like in Top Gun Maverick. Good morning aviators. Welcome to Low-level flying!
Dude, this is the best POV footage from the Navy I have seen. There is such a joyful and whimsical way you film that really drives that feeling of nostalgia.
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
What was that last Trap, 2 miles VIS? Damn…good on you, can’t imagine not having a glass cockpit, lol. ATTACK
Great video and great terrain! I can relate to the trap in the rain, but we did not have those mountains on the east coast. Thanks very much for the blast from the past.
Great plane!

Nothing better than to end the day flying that route back to "The Rock." VA-165 & VA-155.
Had a good friend of mine stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, that got killed on a low level training flight in 1991 named LTJG Grady Hackwith. He was the Bomber Navigator on the right side. He was part of VA-155 silver Foxes.
@@dloyd12 I was the ops officer at VA-155 but transferred about August 1989 just before Desert Storm. We lost LT TC Costen and LT Charlie Turner about the 3 rd day of Desert Storm on a mining run. Knew them well but can't recall LTJG Hackwith so may have transferred in after I left. Sorry to hear that. 😓
@@dloyd12Grady was my roommate at the time. It was a tremendous loss. I think about Grady often and the tragedy of losing him and his pilot.
I don't know if that was Dizzy. Thought he was in VA-196. The "stache" at time 2+29 looks like John "Lick" Mawhinney. I think he was a Swordsman before he came to VA-95 where we flew together . - Meat
Jack Webb is the pilot with the stache. Lick was in the squadron then too but I don’t think was one of the pilots in this video.
I was in VA-196 from 93-96. Was that Diz Carlson flying?
No, don’t think he was in 145 at that time. Jack Webb was main guy but other pilots too.
@@cs1089 Did you guys get a little bit upset when they got retired?
@@cs1089By any chance was Chris Eagle in any of these?
@@DanielEagle-ie1di Chris aka Snax was in the squadron with me but I believe most of this footage was shot after he had left. Great B/N!
Bravo!
Been there! Loved it! Would give body parts to do it again.
Been there! Loved it! Would give body parts to do it again. One of the greatest aircraft ever developed.
You are speaking the truth
